When it appears StormWatch is no longer effective, Weatherman Henry Bendix, the controller of the superhero team, recruits the electric Jenny Sparks, lethal assassin Rose Tattoo, and the city-symbiote Jack Hawksmoor, and transforms the once reactive team into a proactive strike team. Full color. Older teens.
Does anyone remember the Justice League Task Force? That's what this book reminds me of. Or Justice League Elite. Both being super-underrated books. Anyway, this incarnation of Stormwatch is basically the same idea: a black-ops team inside a black-ops team, only this one is using all of the misfits instead of heavy hitters.
I missed out on quite a bit when I stopped reading comics. I didn't really lose interest, just didn't have the money or the time. Trades in librares were spotty. Anyway, I was gone for something like 8 years and missed a whole hell of a lot. This is one of the books I'm just discovering and I'm head over heels for it. Gage's best work I've read to date, even counting my love and admiration of Avengers Academy. Just sad this didn't last more than 12 issues.
The artwork by Mahnke is inconsistent, but I've come to expect that from him over the years.
This is my first time reading a StormWatch story and it was fantastic. The action is fast paced and suspenseful, while the story line is excellent. The introduction of each member to the readers is fresh and interesting. The Post Human Division suffering from budget cuts has to work with the most minimal of resources available to the and so far they are doing a great job. Another thing I loved about this group are the really unique abilities, I didn't think superpowers could be original any more. Two of my favorites are Dino Manolis aka The Machinist, he has the ability to improve on any technology, while having zero ability to create anything tech. Then there is police officer Doran, who has the ability to sense a weakness in the enemy, as well as being a cop who can kick butt. The villains are equally as original in their abilities. This is a series I am going to try and get more of any see where it goes, as for this volume I could have easily rated it higher than a 5.
This is the first non-Authority WildStorm book I've read, and I really liked it. What a great cast of characters, especially Dino Manolis and his old crew. And did you guys know that Mahnke is pronounced like "hanky" and not "honky?"
I liked this one a lot. It's basically people with "skills" instead of big powers against super villians with big powers. So it forces the good guys to be creative. I really liked the art too and the villians rocked. This was a bit violent/harsh similiar to some of the Authority stuff but without the huge scale.
Unfortunately it looks like there's only 1 more graphic novel after this and then something tied to a "big event" in the Wildstorm universe.
The description for this book must be talking about another graphic novel because the characters it mentions aren't in this book.
Another mildly entertaining work, with a decent level of sexual intrigue and violence, but ultimately stifled by anticlimactic outcomes and a weak core.
