Andrew Pickens (1739-1817) did for the Upcountry what Francis Marion and Thomas Sumter did for the Lowcountry. He gained fame for his leadership at the Battle of Cowpens, but he is best remembered for his peacemaking between the Indians and the early settlers.

Read to help my 3rd grader with his book report. Even though I went to Clemson and had SC History as a child, I did not know much about Pickens. It was a good read for me too. And obviously very short. My 3rd grader got through it in a couple of days, too, reading for about 20 minutes a day.
