This book consists of several narrative proses. The Temple of Earth and I,written by a famous Chinese author,Shi Tiesheng,is one of his philosophizing and humanistic representative works.""There is no need to rush toward death. Death is something you wont miss, a holiday that will come sooner or later."" So wrote Shi Tiesheng in his well-known essay The Temple of Earth and I. The image of the autobiographical essayist, a withdrawn young man sitting alone in a wheelchair somewhere in the park of the Temple of Earth, has impressed many readers. Many critics consider the book as one of the best Chinese essays of the 20th century.
A book that reminds me every second that I am walking towards death, yet I have to enjoy the process of life.
An especially inspiring part of the book was the idea, proposed in one assay, that when we observe on a planet that is light-years away, we are "fixed" in our past. That means every second we spend, no what we are doing, is caught by the history and becomes eternal. Why should we then waste any time doing things other than singing for life and enjoying the process?
Unfortunately Shi seems to be less well known outside the community of Chinese readers. Reading his book is a voyage through neglected fortunes that life has endowed us everyone. His fate sounds unbearably miserable to many, his strength is unbelievably encouraging. His thoughts, even after his early death after many years of handicap and illness, seeds glory in my soul.
