Rich Higgins was a friend of mine. We both went to Miami University, we both were on Navy ROTC scholarships, we both were Marine Options and we both marched on the Navy Exhibition Drill Team for several years. I didn't know until a few months ago that his wife wrote a book about his murder and how she didn't get support from the US government or the UN to get him released from captivity. I would have handled the situation differently. The next day after he was taken captive, I would have had special forces teams entering Lebanon looking for him. Rich was unarmed working for the UN peace keeping force between Israel and Lebanon. I met Robin briefly at the memorial dedicated to
Rich at Miami University. And I did communicate with the USS Higgins for a class on Sea power that I taught. I remember when the captivity took place how I wanted to go over and help rescue him. I felt with Robin throughout reading the book. Definitely a good read for me.
