This book was a lot better than I thought it would be. I was aware of some sort of controversy surrounding Micah Ian Wright, but from what I remember it was more about people being disappointed with his truthfulness and not with people being disappointed in his talent. I'm not sure of the exact details, but it seems like whatever it was has ended the guy's career. Shame really because he had a good grasp of his characters and how they would fit in with the rest of the Wildstorm Universe.
The art style is not my favorite. I find that Whilce Portacio is an acquired taste who is best in small doses, but for some reason, it grew on me after a while. One thing that I found funny was that unlike most superhero comic book art, this book had a lot more crotch and butt shots of men instead of women.
The color art was really cool and you can tell that it wasn't an afterthought. The lettering wasn't anything overly unique but it was, when it had to be.
There are a lot of unanswered questions in this first volume and I am looking forward to picking up the next one.

3.0 - THE post-9/11 comic; maybe the most post-9/11 media to ever exist? This dispatch from the early-2000s teleporter arms race was the first and only monthly book I ever read in real time during its original run, before my mom decided that surely TWELVE COMIC BOOKS was more than enough, and what, am I just spoiled? What about the TWO videogames and SEVERAL magazine issues I bought you huh? Time for another battery of psych testing to determine why you'd rather read comic books than do your Algebra homework, you ungrateful brat...
Where was I? This is roided-out macho milporn bullshit. Characters look whittled from driftwood. Santini is a legitimate sociopath. Torture works and is good actually.
But then also: the president is a murderous klansman (and it actually affects his career!), the ghost of George Washington leads a siege of the NYSE to burn down finance capital and then gets reincarnated as an undocumented Chinese baby girl, and Santini guns down a cabal of billionares secretly bankrolling the UN to ensure it upholds the status quo and can't actually ever improve the world. It's even sorta critical of Israel!
I mean, its answer always comes back to tough guys with the will to act making hard choices above the law to drop quips and mass-murder bad guys, but it's not nothing!
Wish we could've got more of this and the Eye of the Storm timeline in general but then somebody had to go on the radio and tell everybody he was an Army Ranger.

I love this series, the idea of a squad of soldiers trained to take down superhumans is one that at first seems hard to believe but it is written so well that it actually is believable. Tactics will nearly always beat powers if you know what you are doing... at least this series makes you believe that!
Such a change from what Stormwatch had been that it took a while to get into when it first came out but rereading it now i am coming into it a fan already and it hasnt let me down with this first volume

Story: This was a good plot with plenty of military details.
Art: The art really kept me from giving it a better rating. Whilce Portacio's style exemplifies the worst of the Image founders; hard angles, unnecessary lines, indistinct faces/body styles, and poor panel design.
