She wanted to save the world-They wanted to save theirs. When the High Guardian of the Watchmen, Simon, is ordered to put a stop to the terrorists determined to wipe out the 'non humans', he zeros in on the daughter of the man believed to be the leader-Dr. Anna Blake. Miles Cavendish might be as slippery as they come, but Anna is all too easy for them to lay their hands on. The problem immediately rises that they want to lay a lot more on her than their hands, and Anna certainly isn't protesting too vigorously, but she's clearly against genetically mutating humans herself. She seems eager to cooperate, but how can she be trusted? Rating: Spicy/Carnal.

Dark Abyss by Kaitlyn O'Conner Paranormal Romance - May 3rd, 2010 4 ½ stars
Simon is the High Guardian, the head of the Watchmen in New Atlantis. He and his crew are genetically engineered man called by many humans, ‘mutants.’ They protect and monitor the world of New Atlantis. But when a terrorist strikes their world Simon and his men soon find themselves under fire to save the inhabitants and tourists plus find the culprits. They suspect it is the work of Miles Cavendish and discover that Miles has a daughter named Anna. The Watchmen decide to use her as leverage and interrogate her, but soon find themselves attracted to her innocence and beauty instead!
Anna is an unsuspecting heroine caught up in circumstances she doesn't understand. She is shocked to find she is actually the daughter of a rich and powerful man. But before she can even recover understand that her life was an utter lie she is kidnapped by men who think her father is their enemy. They question Anna. But Anna knows nothing.
This is a fun paranormal romance to read! The heroine is a very decent person who does her best in circumstances that are less than ideal and somehow ends up having all her abductors fall in love with her. Although the heroine has several 'partners’ and the author’s book is technically classified under erotic, the scenes never felt overdone or sleazy. The men each have their own personality and the best part is how charming and earnest they are. They are men who have no real experience with woman. And as soon as they realize Anna’s innocence they are plotting ways to get her for themselves.
On New Atlantis there is a huge shortage of women. Anna’s charm is being herself and as soon as they realize they want her they also discover, they don't have any idea how to court a woman, let alone one they care for! This is not a serious book and I found how each man tries to woo her very silly and entertaining. I also liked that Anna is a good-natured heroine who seems baffled by all the male attention (She has always thought of herself as an ‘average’ looking woman.) she gets but doesn't have any trouble enjoying it! She is a very down to earth heroine who genuinely cares for each of them in return. I have read this author’s book before and am always amazed at how likeable her characters are and how much I enjoy the imagination she keeps adding to her paranormal romances. This book is no exception.
This is a light and engaging read, although there are many ‘heroes’ it was fun to read. I think this is a good book for someone looking for a bit of escapism with some steamy scenes.

Kind of a disappointing read to me. There was very little romance and next to zero erotica.
The heroes are typical Kaitlyn O'Connor. Their DNA has been altered - or rather their Grandfather's DNA was altered to make them into mermen. Now these guys are all thought of as "mutants", and second class citizens of the world.
These men are big, handsome, gruff, short on manners, abundant on hormones & tempers. Also typical of KO heroes, none of them even try to woo the heroine. In fact, they treat her kind of poorly by kidnapping her and interrogating her for several days because her father is a terrorist mastermind. Then they return her to her home knowing she's easy-pickins' for Bad Dad.
After an incident with her father kidnapping her and blowing up her home & research - she goes into protective custody with the heroes. They plot behind her back because they're desperate for a mate...or to get laid. Not very flattering to our heroine. They all individually corner her at different times and engage in really unimaginative sex, afterwards separating from her as quickly as possible.
There is an HEA in both her relationship and in her research, but it makes the heroine seem desperate.
Remember the bioengineered merpeople from the Below story, well I think this is about their grandchildren. Of course, there are some extreme groups that hate anything that's not completely human and they are trying to destroy these people any way they can. Anna is a scientist who finds out the father she thought was dead is actually the head of this organization. After one of the underwater villages is bombed their police come to question her and they find out she has no hatred for them and in fact if attracted to them. With the shortage of women who want to live underwater, they often have more than one husband. Now they just have to ask her.
I really liked the sci-fi in this book. It was cool and original (I think).
The four heroes had different personalities, which was good because in these ménage type of romances they sometimes don't and usually one hero is the lead and the others are accessories to him. The heroine got equal face time with each of them.
I laughed every time the polygamous relationships in the underwater world were referred to as pods.
However, I wasn't feeling the love and I wasn't convinced that the heroes actually loved the heroine and that she really loved them. The heroes were pretty hard up for a woman and she was hard up for male attention herself.
This is a fun read for Kaitlyn O'Connor fans, one of her best. Set in a future Earth where the sea is encroaching on land due to global changes it is set in habitats that we are colonizing to live beneath the oceans. Humans there have been genetically modified to be adapted to this new underwater environment. Anna is an above ground scientist who comes to the attention of Simon and his crew of underwater lawmen as they follow the trail of a terrorist attack on their infrastructure.
This book is different from KC's other books in that the romance took a backseat to the plot which was engaging. Anna wasn't terribly irritating as far as heroines go. She's an intelligent scientist, working toward the goal of solving world hunger. The four mermen were quite appealing but again the abrupt ending knocked off a star for me. I wish there were more stories based in this underwater universe.
While the author's earlier books were big on dominating males, submissive females, lots of sex and poor plots things have changed with this book. You have an interesting plot, enjoyable characters, a smart h who doesnt have TSTL moments and appropriate length sex scenes.
accidently deleted my review. as I remember this was a middle of the road read for me. The men seemed a bit girly what with wearing the toweling robes all the time. The plot was a bit messy too.
