It never ceases to shock when time slips away from me. Two weeks. Gone. Completely wiped from my existence. Two weeks ago, there was another me, sleeved in another morph. There was a mission and it led to my death.

Sava wakes from the dead with a new body and a new mission. This time, the job entails returning to a ruined Earth, avoiding the dangers left behind by an apocalyptic war between AIs and transhumanity, and putting their lives on the line for lost information. It is a mission they won't forget--and may not remember at all.

"Lack" takes place in the Eclipse Phase tabletop roleplaying game universe. This story originally appeared in the Eclipse Phase Core Rulebook.

I like the horror setting of Eclipse phase and this one does it justice. It seems real enough to make it believable, and the books doesn't tone down the horror of being an transhuman.
The book would be a nice setting for a scenario too.

I liked this a lot because stuff like lost time, and the fear of losing memories and experiences is something that resonates with me. It made me think about how I would react to being in that situation again and again out of necessity.

Literally the first thing in the core Eclipse Phase RPG book, this short story introduces readers to the setting. I like the way Boyle chose for his protagonist narrator someone whose life was choppy and discontinuous, an experience that fits perfectly with the themes of the Eclipse Phase universe.

As a fiction to illustrate how the world of eclipse phase is this is absolutely brilliant. Definitely worth the read and scratches that scifi horror itch.

An entertaining introduction to the Eclipse Phase setting. This is better-written than the average story you find in a core RPG book.
