Hope for Children of Alcoholics offers a straightforward description of alcoholism, what Alateen is, how Alateen works, and gives personal stories of teens with alcoholic loved ones. This is a good book for anyone with a family member or friend who is an alcoholic because it answers all the basic questions a person may have, such What is alcoholism, Who are alcoholics, Why do alcoholics drink, & Why is Alcoholism called a "family disease"? It explains how Alateen can help and gives very thorough information in case someone wonders if they might want to become involved in Alateen. It explains the twelve-step approach, how to find or start an Alateen group, plan a meeting, etc.
I suppose this is like commenting “first” on a YouTube video. I liked this book, it had some nice insights and mirrored my experience as a child of an alcoholic parent. 4/5 stars because I’m fan of horror, not self help. I just got this book for free from my Alanon meeting and read it in like an hour. There are some really nice insights from the Twelve Steps that I really liked, and the stories, although not well written, hit home and were very relatable. I’ll pass it on to someone else next meeting!
