There is an incredible timeline of scientific development that occurred before we could record our history. Walled communities, calendars to track time, early irrigation systems, and domestication of animals all occurred in prehistory. Readers will be taken on a journey of scientific discovery of very ancient times--learning that a great deal of our lasting technologies stem from a not-so-primitive past. Sidebars and timelines support the main narrative.
I enjoyed this book immensely. If I was developing a collection for children and/or teens, this series would be on my "necessary" list.
This book is part of a wonderful series entitled "Science Highlights". It has well thought out timelines and extra information boxes. With color-coding and high glossy images throughout, it is great for catching and keeping the attention of young readers and the information is so well presented that even adults can learn a lot from it as well.
There is a great index in the back of the book as well as a useful dictionary of terms used in the book. Also, there is a very helpful list of sources for further learning that includes both books as well as internet sites for more information.
