This CD contains two publications, Implementing a Quality Management System, and Software Process Assessment and Improvement. Implementing a Quality Management System is a collection of research papers that focus on implementing a quality management system in a software environment. The varied experiences of the different authors highlight the pitfalls and success criteria of quality management implementation projects. These provide valuable pointers to anyone implementing a quality management system, whether from a large or small organization. Other books software on the market touch on implementing a quality management system, but this is the first to focus on the implementation. With the increasing emphasis on and public awareness of the techniques of process assessment, flowing from the ongoing development and validation of the International Standard for software process assessment now proceeding with the support of the SPICE Project, it is important that the flexibility and scope of the technique should be recorded, and that the potential benefits from its application should be made widely known. This electronic publication is among the first to present a wide-ranging view of the conduct and use of software process assessment, particularly in the context of improvement. The current literature contains significant material on the technique itself, both from a management perspective and from the point of view of individual assessment methods. There is little material available as a published collection, however, that addresses experiences with the use of assessment, particularly with respect to its use for driving improvement programs. It is this experiential flavor that is the primary distinguishing feature of this publication. Implementing a Quality Management Chapter 1: Implementing quality management systems standards (J. G.
