High school students heroic act turns into epic human vs. monster sword fight!
Buso Renkin is the story of teenager Kazuki Muto, who dies trying to save a girl who was being attacked by an eerie monster. The next morning, however, Kazuki is left wondering whether it was all a dream. Lo and behold, the girl, the monster, and his death are all real! The girl, Tokiko Tsumura, was actually trying to slay the homunculus (a beast that can take the form of humans, and whose main source of food is people), but Kazuki got in her way. To revive Kazuki, Tokiko replaces his heart with a "kakugane," an alchemic device that allows him to summon a lance with which to fight the monsters. It turns out that Tokiko is a member of the Alchemist Warriors, an organization sworn to protect the world from the diabolical creatures. Soon, Kazuki joins Tokiko in her quest to terminate the sinister being that creates and controls the homunculus.
Kazuki and Tokiko find themselves face to face with the legendary traitor of the Alchemist Warriors. The traitor, Victor, has a black kakugane for a heart, giving him the ability to drain energy from any humans in the area and increase his own strength. Then Kazuki discovers that he too has a black kakugane inside him. A fierce battle ensues, pitting the two owners of the rare black kakugane against one another!

This review is part of a personal challenge to: 1) read more French books; 2) improve my French; 3) read all the French manga novels from my mom's manga collection. Seeing as I read this book in French, the actual review will be in French (duh).

Ceci s'agit du sixième volume de la série. Dans cette volume, les soldats renkin ont une nouvelle mission - d'éliminer Kazuki avant qu'il se transforme en victor III! Il y a aussi des nouvelles personnages (comme Gôta Nakamura) qui sont introduit dans cette volume et qui ont l'air assez intéressant. Je pense que l'histoire devient finalement un peu plus captivant.

kazuki became uh... victorfied? and that's pretty interesting

Dalam volume ini, alchemy army memiliki misi baru untuk menanggapi Kazuki sebelum dia berubah menjadi Victor III! Ada juga beberapa karakter baru (seperti Gôta Nakamura) yang terlihat cukup menarik. Saya pikir cerita arah cerita menjadi sedikit lebih menarik.

From the creator of Rurouni Kenshin, This series is definitely far from the greatness of that manga! The plot and art was all over the place, Great at times and hard to stay with it at times... 👌😁💕

The descent begins, first with a reset
So I actually don't have a lot of bad to say just yet. The quality jumps back to around the same as volume 3 with a much darker more serious tone. Which I appreciated a lot more. I enjoyed watching Kauzki and gang fight other Warriors then the Homunculi. I felt like Watsuki never really spent any time experimenting with different philosophy of homunculi. They were pretty much all monsters to be destroyed, except for a few characters like Papillion.
Not that the alchemist warriors had expansive and completive characters, but their designs and powersets were much more interesting. But I'm getting ahead of myself, because that's more about the next volume. In this volume it starts off with a lot of fun and fall out from the last volume. Victor escapes and Kazuki returns (rather conveniently) to a human. That's fine because I actually enjoy the way this story went. It felt very natural that the alchemist army would attempt to reexterminate Kazuki. This falls very much in line with their no nonsense attitudes and what not. So I loved Seeing Bravo vs Kazuki. The battle had a real weight to it.
I wasn't sure that Kazuki could take Bravo and at the end of the day, he couldn't. Also, Kazuki's new lance was fantastic. I love the new design and just how it can be used is much better than big hulky lance from before. Good on ya Watsuki!
At the end of the day, I really liked the idea of where the story was going from here. I was excited to see Kazuki out of a school setting. I'm not sure I knew how to feel about Gouta. He kind of always seemed like a lame character to me, but there was nothing inherently wrong with him from a story perspective.

Noburhiro Watsuki continues to twist his protagonist using the new plot device type of buso renkin introduced in the last volume. Amusingly, Watsuki uses the change to shrink the protagonist's oversized weapon, which has cause the artist so much difficulty according to the commentary.
Still, if the plot is manga conventional, it's not the non-change plotting of American comics, and continues to show real, if potentially predictable, progress.
The series no longer feels like junk food.

Truly sad turn for the characters, but still a great story.

Ashame it was so short, but still great. Just need to get the 3rd and 4th voumble.
