This book was published in the 80s, so I won't be judging its merit based on its lack of currency.

This book introduces the novice beekeeper to the science of beekeeping, and outlines how this works with vigorous detail, including information on possible issues. There are also detailed chapters based on the anatomy and species of bees, types of honey and their corresponding plants, and how to procure and treat wax and honey.

The information in this book, while useful, can be difficult to understand at times. More illustrations and photos would have improved this, particularly when instructions on how to build certain equipment are given. Nevertheless, Bailey has done well to provide such a detailed book about beekeeping in an Australian context, and while there have been some changes and new methods of beekeeping developed since the publication of this book, much of this information still remains current.
