Rate this book
Although John Fitzgerald Kennedy’s presidency lasted less than three years before an assassin’s bullet killed him in Dallas, Texas, he had a lasting impact upon the world. Youthful, charming, and articulate, he?and his sophisticated wife Jackie?symbolized hope and optimism in a time of turmoil. Young readers will find themselves enthralled by this biography of one of America’s most popular leaders, which explores J.F.K.’s privileged childhood and tight-knit family; wartime heroism; and political accomplishments, which began in Congress and eventually led him to the U.S. presidency?the youngest man ever elected to the Oval Office.

This book was very good; it explained the importance of Kennedy's presidency. Even though Kennedy had only served three years out of the usual four, he managed to help keep America's head held high through the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Latin America containment of communism. The importance of his presidency affected the lives of millions. I now believe our country would've been in a whole different situation had Kennedy not been killed. Overall I loved this book, I defiantly would recommend it to anyone and all ages. The author does a very good job at putting yourself in the shoes of the people during the 1960's, and how up to his death, he was considered one of the greatest president's/leaders in American history.

I like this book very much. It shows the journey of one of America's greatest presidents. It starts off explaining Jfk's childhood he was smart, but had trouble passing science and foreign language. When world war two began jfk was assigned to the Pacific where he was nearly killed, but survived thanks to his can do attitude he and his men survived. Sadly though his brother died in Germany it was a tragedy to him. A few years later Jfk ran for congressman. After he won for congress and his terms were up he ran for the senate,he won. After two terms he decided to run for president. He hired the best campaign manager for the democratic party. After a long time of fighting for the president he won. Jfk was nervous of Communism and put missiles near Russia in response to America Russia put missiles in Cuba. This died and the situation defused. In November 1963 Jfk was killed. Many people thought it was Russia others thought it was the mob we will never know. In the end America lost a great president and a great man.

I thought this was a great book. We had to do a biography for class, and I wanted to do John F. Kennedy, so I thought this book would be nice. I opened the book, and saw a timeline already! It told me a ton of details. I thought this would be any ordinary biography.

John F. Kennedy: voice of hope by Marie Hodge
Nonfiction: Biography
120 Pages
John, or Jack F. Kennedy was born on May 29, 1917. He was born to a pretty wealthy family, where his father Joe, and his grandfather had much political power and influence. Growing up, Jack was always overshadowed by his big brother, Joe Jr. Joe did better in sports, school, music and everything else. Jack was often bedridden, and he almost died of sickness four different times as a child. He go through this though, and ended up going to Harvard, where he did very well. He joined the military, where he earned a Purple Heart medal. When he and a handful of fellow compatriots were out at sea on a small boat, the enemy destroyed it. Jack commanded his men to grab on to a floating piece and swim to a nearby island. They were here for a couple days until help arrived. Jack was heroic and saved his fellow men. He was a hero of combat!
Later, Jack proved to be very skilled at politics. He was elected president on January 20, 1961. He was one of the best presidents of the U.S. in history. He launched the idea to send man to the moon. He helped to stay calm and solve the Cuban Missile Crisis. Best of all, he looked out for the common man and was very good to his nation. He once said," Ask not what your Country can do for you, ask what you can do for your Country." This summed up his idea that people, no matter how small, should try to make a change. He was, unfortunately, assassinated on November 22, 1963. John F. Kennedy died that day, and with him one of the greatest leaders of our country.

This book was very very interesting. I never knew much at all about John F. Kennedy, except that he was wealthy growing up and he was considered a very good president. I learned, though, that he was nicknamed Jack, that he had an older brother who died in service, and also that his family was very involved in politics. It was his Grandfather and his father, after all, who helped Jack get into Harvard, and they used their connections to also help Jack get elected to congress. It is hinted at in this book that without Political connections, Jack might have never been president. Also, when he was miraculously elected to congress, many thought he was a bad public speaker and that he didn't know what he was talking about. Again, his Father Joe saved the day by enhancing Jack's public speaking skills and educating him on economical and social strategies.
I gave this a four star because the book wasn't very thorough about Jack's life. It commented on his political and public life, but not anything personal. It could've at least talked about his kids a bit more. Anyway, it was intriguing and I would recommend it to anybody who likes learning about the presidents.

Kennedy had America ... when it was America. It will never be the same as it was back then. Decent book.
