TANKWITCH A Novel by W.C. Hatounian Doug Baker, a Viet Nam war veteran, and his National Guard tank crew are whisked through a warp in the fabric of space and time into another dimension. They have unknowingly been summoned by a hag witch who’s cast a spell calling them to her. Doug, his crew, and their bewitched tank Vicky find themselves in a medieval land where periods of time conflict and are unwittingly thrown into the social conflicts of the kingdom. An evil has descended upon her homeland for the purpose of kidnapping young girls of age and force them into a most sinister and despicable form of desecration, spawning of gargoylish creatures. Immediately captured when they arrive, Doug and the crew are taken before the king who accuses them of attempting to interfere with the affairs of his kingdom. Sentenced to burn at the stake they escape. Along the way they find a runaway princess who falls in love with Vinnie the tank’s driver. They are led to Audra the hag witch. She admits to her witchcraft and pleads with the men to save the virtues of the young girls she has hidden, the crew agrees to champion her cause and engage in an arduous battle to slay the evil, and release the kingdom from the bondage. Doug and the crew recover Vicky and drive into the arena of certain death. The classic battle of good over evil becomes the focus of their chivalry. “TankWitch” is a fictional novel examining the events when a chosen group of men and a tank slip through a distortion in the fabric of the universe and become the instrument of rescue for young village girls in a life threatening gamble and risk their lives selflessly for honor and goodness, unknowingly that the evil that awaits them has a human ally and coconspirator. It shows that chivalry is not dead or lost on the young, and love remains eternal.
This was the most amateurish and ridiculous book I have ever tried to read. There's no plot, so don't bother trying to find one. The characters are flat and one dimensional, with very little that's likeable about any one of them. The alleged tank witch is just stupid. The dialogue is juvenile without one saving nuance of flow, direction, mood, or context.
I'm generally a reader who is easily pleased and drawn into the story but this was bad. I feel a little foolish for having read the entire script, but I'm a former Army specialist so I wanted to see how someone might recount a typical weekend drill for reserve and guards members. This wasn't even close. I'm pretty sure the timeline is set in the present, but realistic that would make Doug, the Sarge, about 67-70 years of age. I know the weekend warrior's have somewhat re!axed enlistment standards, but that's just not a plausible idea.
Perhaps most annoying of all this manuscript reads as if it's been written by a kid in junior high. The structure, action, setting, characters, and format are all completely mangled and presented like a shopping list instead of a novel.
Most lacking of all, there is simply the poorest editorial system I have ever seen in novel form. Run on sentences, poor use of any grammatical structure or format made this almost impossible to read. The pagination is random and tor my tastes this author doesn't understand the use of commas, semicolons, paragraphs or chapters. In short this book is a juvenile, ridiculously bad "Novel". I hesitate to call it a book. One star, because I must but don't bother to read this mawkish tripe if I'd had to pay for it, I'd be very upset with my purchase.
, or I love well-written TT novels but this disaster just made me want to rethink my passion. The action is s
I really enjoyed the plot, as well as the writing of some of the characters.
I had a hard time reading this book because of the shift between perspectives. The shift wouldn’t have bothered me if it would’ve been edited better. Sometimes perspectives switched within a paragraph.
I hope the book gets edited professionally at some point. Because the story is a good one.
This book won't change your life, but you will enjoy it. I liked this book. There were some editing mistakes, but they are minor and the story flowed around them. This is good solid light reading. I can highly recommend this book to all ages (no adult themes). I throughly enjoyed this book.
I found the story interesting and fun .I loved the charters and found this book a joy my only sadness is it is over too quickly. I hope to find more books by this author. Thank you for your hard work and I hope to read many more books by this author
Enjoyed the book. Read a few different versions of this elsewhere buy always a different twist here or there. You may find some grammatical errors but might just be me.
Badly edited and clumsy in parts, this was a good read and very enjoyable. I could go on and on with the flaws but why bother? It was a fun and fast-paced story Mr Hatounian wanted to share and I’m grateful he did.
Weak construction, characters aren’t well developed, decent idea not explored and leaves you either confused or feeling like something is missing. Don’t give up your day job just yet, sir.
The writing was clear enough. Delightful as an MRE cheese packet. Stable with fantasy. I would not extol it's virtues because it is also limited. More could have teased for fun. Still, perhaps that makes it thought provoking. It is unique.
Tank Witch, written by Mike's cousin, Billy, is a fantasy/sci-fi story. Involving four Nam buddies, and an alternate universe of witches, sorcerers, elves, gargoyles and royalty (maybe even a "past world" calling the future for help!!--Harry Turtledov-ian like ;-)), the story held me in an array of many emotions while reading. There is suspense, romance, adventure and fun throughout the pages! I love the witchy character, Audra, and later, Princess Rebecca from the House of Darpon, who becomes as wise as she is beautiful and sexy. Doug, Vinnie, Bailey and Boz are quite a crew of men; and tho they don’t quite find “72 Virgins,” they do connect with these two women in mystically magical ways…all thanks to “Vicky,” an Iron Beast of a tank. Thru the secret passage ways of a castle far and long away, William Hatounian captivates his readers with this novel, dedicated to his wife, Maggie. Along with her, I love “this one” the best.
