The present volume is an adaption from the Bengali publication with some additions and alterations that were felt necessary for the presentation of this wonderful life of Saint Durgacharan Nag, familiarly known as Nagmahasaya to a wider circle of readers outside Bengal. His life was so marvellous that even a casual reader of the book cannot but be struck with awe and wonder at the unique spiritual stature of the saint, although the present volume gives only a threadbare narrative of that unique life.
The biography of Shri Durgacharan Nag (famously known as Sadhu Nag Mahashay) by Sharat Chandra Chakraborty is by and large a first hand account of personal experiences of the author. Perhaps the most devoted of Shri Ramakrishna's household disciples, Nag Mahashay led an extremely subdued life that became exemplary by all means. His words and deeds easily expresses the ideals and the truth Sri Ramakrishna himself stood for.
While reading the book, at times it seems that the 'ordinariness' of Nag Mahashay is itself extra-ordinary. Unless one is blessed with Faith and Love Absolute in and for Divinity within every living being, it is quite next to impossible to live a life like him.
Nag Mahashay was one of the closest disciple of Sri Ramakrishna. As Vivekananda showed the way of realization of God using his knowledge, Nag mahashay conveyed the message through his bhakti and dedication. This book is written by Nag Mahashay's and Vivekanda's disciple Shara Chandra. It brings the life of nagamhashaya in front of the reader's eyes as if they are with him. I read the Kannada translation of the book. Very good read.
It's a precious and one and only account available to depict the pure saintly life of one of the less-known yet devoted householder disciple of Sri Ramakrishna. Nagmahasaya's is truly inspiring and a must-read for spiritual aspirants.
