Wilbert Vere Awdry, OBE, better known as the Rev. W. Awdry, was an English clergyman, railway enthusiast and children's author, and creator of Thomas the Tank Engine, who starred in Awdry's acclaimed Railway Series.
The characters that would make Awdry famous, and the first stories featuring them, were invented in 1943 to amuse his son Christopher during a bout of measles. The first book (The Three Railway Engines) was published in 1945, and by the time Awdry stopped writing in 1972, The Railway Series numbered 26 books. Christopher subsequently added further books to the series.
A book featuring the popular kids character Thomas the Tank Engine by Rev Awdry. This book helps kids learn to count to ten and features characters from the popular show. No story or anything. Just average illustrations and basic numbers.
This one at least is tolerable. Got a series of four in a little box from Sam's Club at Christmas time. My husband and I aren't thrilled with them, but our son (fascinated with all things train) enjoys them. Unfortunately durable with no objectionable content, we will be keeping them for him to look at but trying to avoid reading them!
Engaging for a Thomas fan but not particularly well executed in terms of toddler counting. One page is a platform with pieces of luggage on it - my toddler is not interested in luggage - you lost him there! It would have been better received if we had the opportunity to count engines, especially if they were the same colour (3 blue engines).
Not my favorite counting book by far but it is one of the better ones in this set. If your child loves trains, he'll love to look at them in this book which is why this still gets three stars. My 1 year old might even give it 5 stars :)
