Excellent tutorial for witnessing to various types of people

I have been involved for decades in various types of Christian service, and I am always eager to learn how to do better at evangelism. I have taken witnessing classes, but most have taught a particular method or pattern of witnessing (such as the FAITH acronym, Four Spiritual Laws, The Roman Road or the Bridge illustration). Generally, those “one size fits all” methods haven’t worked for me.

What makes this book different is that it helps you understand the various hindrances people have that keep them from receiving Christ and how to overcome these by directing individuals to scriptures that address their particular needs. The last chapter in the book is my favorite, since it emphasizes that without being filled with the Holy Spirit, no one is going to be an effective witness for Christ.

Everyone called to the ministry of evangelism should read this book. Anyone else who desires to lead people to Christ will benefit from reading it, as well. The best part is that, since this is a classic, you can get it for free on Amazon!

Great Guide

Clearly reminds us to allow God and his Word to work in hearts. Great reference book to help win people to Jesus Christ.

Many good perspectives on the topic of evangelism, somewhat weighed down by stories about people who said that exact right thing at the right time, resulting in instant conversion or other hoped-for response—a common weakness of many evangelism books. My edition has no ISBN whatsoever! (This review is almost identical to my review of People Sharing Jesus because I read both books more than five years ago and don't remember them well enough to make further distinctions.)

Disappointed

I am extremely disappointed in the author. While he is excellent at quoting scripture, the book shows bias against other Christian denominations, and he becomes so judgemental, that I stopped reading about 75% of the way through the book. It is sad because the book starts out well. (Note: I do not belong to the denomination he severely judges, but I have studied their denomination, and I know the statements in the book are false and prejudiced.)

Very good information

This little book contain such great advise! I definitely learnt a lot, but the one area I was hoping he would cover, was not covered.

I know people who state that they are Christians, but that they can't believe that Christ rose from the dead, because logic says that's not possible. I would dearly like to learn how to deal with this.

Overall it was a great, practical book. Whoever reprinted it, should have done a little editing. That's the only reason for the 4 stars.

This is an excellent little book to help believers who struggle with sharing their faith gain insight and resources to be more successful in sharing the Gospel. I love most of Torrey's books, but this one is exceptionally good.

A practical book that gives different passages and approaches of using the Bible to lead people to Christ. Fundamentally sound, thought the final chapter entitled, "The Baptism of the Holy Spirit" seems to be Torrey's heretical soap box that doesn't belong in this book. Still the book is useful, especially when it reminds the reader that he can use his own Biblically based soap box of one verse for each situation, rather than have seemingly countless verses memorized.

I felt like I should have rated this book higher because it is designed to help people witness, but truthfully, witnessing is best learned with a partner as you go out and tell people about Jesus. This book is good and will give you pointers for certain situations, but witnessing is learned best by doing.

One of the best books I have read on personal evangelism. The book is thoroughly scriptural with hundreds of references. Though it is an old book, it is written in a very simple manner.
