Air historian Pat Cunningham, DFM, writes from a perspective of 20,000 hours of operational and non-operational flying gained during forty years of Service and civil aviation. The ‘Fate Holds the Key’ series charts the love story of RAF bomber pilot Nick Cameron and his Polish sweetheart, Ania Kowalska, during their turbulent years of separation caused by the Second World War. Throughout the series tribute is paid to the Poles who, promised support by Britain, fought gallantly throughout but were effective losers in virtually all respects. Tribute is also paid to Royal Air Force Bomber Command which, though much vaunted during the conflict, and with 55,573 aircrew killed (44.46% of the force), was then treated as a pariah. In particular to those personnel featuring in the author’s The Operational RAF series, each of whom was bitterly aware of the slight. In Missing From Operations, the fourth book of the series, Ania finally learns that Nick still cares for her, only to learn too that he has failed to return from raiding Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest eyrie. Pat Cunningham was born in New Jersey and grew up in southcentral Pennsylvania, where she still resides. At one time she wanted to become a comic book writer, but ended up in paranormal romance instead. This is what happens when you combine the two. To this day she can still sing the entire theme song from the 1960s Spider-Man cartoon show.
