Without a Song

Rate this book
Roni Marsden is a caregiving widow who resolves to be strong for her young daughter. Staying on the cleansing hills of her friend’s ranch in Nebraska, she tries to figure out the next step. Does she move from Norfolk? Would there be a job if she did? Country songwriter Dawson Bennett has returned home to stay on his brother’s ranch because the production company for his first album went bust. He searches for new songs but discovers he’s unable to write as he attempts to mend the past with his father, who is in a care facility. He crushed on Roni back in high school when she dated Dawson’s brother. Those emotions are reawakened. Protective feelings for Roni’s daughter, and a stray pup, add to soften his bitterness. Will these connections enable him to write lyrics that honor God, or does God have a different future in mind for them?

This was a wonderful faith building romance. Roni lost her husband and needed time to deal ith the emotions so she and her daughter, Ivy, go to her hometown in Nebraska to stay at a ranch her friend, Allison, had inherited. Dawson is Wayne, Allison's husband, brother. Dawson is a singer/song writer who had hit some hard times by no fault of his own. Wayne invited him to come stay at the ranch also so he could figure out what to do with his life. Dawson and Roni are immediate friends and attracted 5o each other. Ivy takes to Dawson like no other man except her father. This story had both characters struggling with their faith in God's plan for each of them. There's a lot of scriptures mentioned that fit the story perfectly. Allison and Wayne (who don't live on the ranch full time) came up with ideas for the ranch that involved both Roni and Dawson working on it. The story has a HEA ending. I highly recommend this book.

Roni a recent widow has come to her friend Allison’s home to relax and spend time with her daughter Ivey before she gets back to life and find a job. Dawson is a singer from Nashville who also grew up in the Nebraska town as Roni. Dawson has lost his spark for writing. They both need God’s guidance through prayer to move forward in life. This was a great story and can’t wait to see what else is in story for Roni and Dawson.
