Where the golden apples grow / Kage Baker -- Fun and thought-provoking, vibe of the Golden Age classics. Looks like this is part of a series... I will consider the others.

A billion Eves / Robert Reed -- Why does it always have to be the young women who are the victims and the men who are wicked? The theme of this story is good, but there's no need for all the prurient details; it could have been told much more creatively, intelligently, and respectfully.

The Voyage of Night Shining White / Chris Roberson -- - Giving up. The author clearly has no credentials for writing about a Chinese eunuch sent to space by his emperor.

Julian : a Christmas story / Robert Charles Wilson -- interesting, considered reading the novel that expands on it but, as is often the case in SF, it seems the short version is just right.

The lineaments of gratified desire / Ysabeau S. Wilce -- I don't get my kicks from either fancy language stylings or little girls adventures on the mean streets. DNF

Lord Weary's empire / Michael Swanwick -- dnf - gangs of haints and feys in an urban underground... not for me. Looks like a supplement or predecessor to the author's trilogy The Iron Dragon's Daughter.

After the siege / Cory Doctorow -- a war story. Heroine a teen girl.. why is that disturbing trope so popular? A skim was plenty.

Botch town / Jeffrey Ford -- nice touch that it's the dad supporting the family by working 2 jobs and mom spending too much of what little they have on cigarettes and wine, a reversal of the cliche. Starts out w/ no SF, develops into beautifully written horror. Kinda.

So: the only story I recommend is the first, and that's only if you can easily find it.

Three of the novellas were very good, the others merely okay.
