Just a fun, sexy read with the delicious Sam in the starring role. His claim to fame is his ability to please the ladies…and oh my does that man have a way with words! Danika is his latest conquest, only she’s more than what Sam bargained for, and he might have met his match. It was great to visit with the entire gang and I look forward to seeing what Mac and Sara have in store for us.

I'm still so happy Karen White brought this new to audio series to my attention. I am loving the sweet, sexy, funny stories of these kind people. We see only a bit of the first couple here and a bit of their circle of friends and co-workers.  The series seems to have two names  The Bradfords and Everyday Heroes.  The stories revolve around the Bradford family, their community center, doctors, nurses and paramedics.

Just Like That is about Sam Bradford. He is a paramedic and the middle Bradford child. He is the only male child between two sisters. He doesn't commit to anything. He only has one night stands. So is he a bad guy? Nope. He's oddly more committed to people than he would like to think.

Dannika has moved here recently (Omaha?) and her sisters are here. Based on her history, she wants to be independent and able to do anything and everything for herself. She doesn't want to need anyone or ever be a burden to someone who loves her.

These two both have issues from the family history. It takes time to work through their feelings. I loved this just as much as the first book. It made me laugh, pant, swoon and cry - all the feelings! I can't wait for more of these people. Next up is Just My Type at the end of December.

Narration:
Karen White really handled Dannika's voice so well. Dannika is strong and confidant, a whole different ball game from the internal debates in the previous book. I loved how definite she sounded, even when she is figuring things out in her mind.  I enjoyed her voice for Sam also. The different voices for each character, were well performed.   I listened at 1.5x speed which is something new lately for me, but it worked well.

Favorite Quote: “You know I don’t do madly in love, or happily in love, or any other kind of in love for that matter.”

“Exactly. But you do do orgasms.”

Danika Steffen is more than a little embarrassed that her sisters are openly discussing her lack of orgasms in public at a restaurant. Danika may lack plentiful orgasms in her life, but it is not because she is naive, more that she chooses not to go there with men. After dealing with a very sick mother and subsequent death growing up, Danika now likes her life in order, without messy surprises and emotions, which orgasms and boyfriends can bring. But her sisters are worried about her and have made other plans for this night.

Paramedic Sam Bradford happens to be sitting at the next table, thoroughly enjoying this outrageous conversation next to him. He knows Danika’s sister through the hospital, and he is also well known for his bedroom skills. Danika’s sisters want Sam to give Danika one night of pure pleasure. Danika knows fully well that Sam has been listening in, and when he approaches her about spending the night with him, she surprises him by not acting embarrassed or shy. She is ready to spend one night of pleasure, and then go back to her ordered life. Or so she thinks.

With the beginning of Just Like That full of orgasm talk and with Sam swooping in ready to show her the night of her life, I got a little nervous. I pictured the entire rest of the book with them in bed full of erotic sex. Which, isn’t necessarily all bad, but I worried for the actual story. But after they leave the bar, Danika ends up breaking her arm, and sexy time goes out the window. All of a sudden I was reading a book full of witty banter, tons of flirting, and hot sexual tension (that yes, eventually leads to the bedroom.)

Sam is such a good hearted hero he made me smile a lot throughout the book. Danika and Sam both have messy family histories which lay heavy on their shoulders. After they build up a little trust with each other, having ample time to do that now that Danika is injured, they are able to be each other’s therapy to work through their issues – accept the past and keep it in the past, so they can move forward.

We get a group of nice supporting characters, although Danika’s sisters are a little over the top in their protectiveness. As I mentioned, it takes a good portion of the book to actually make it to the bedroom with these two and I love the build up. When they finally to make it there, it is worth the wait. Plus Erin Nicholas gives us a butter scene – which turns into something hot and umm…slippery.

Just Like That is a fun, sexy, light-hearted read that I definitely recommend.

I loved this book, it was cute, sexy and fun. It starts with Dani having a humiliating conversation with her sisters in public where they discuss her ineffectual boyfriends and the fact that she hasn't had an orgasm with a man and listening to all this is Sam and his friends.

Sam is a paramedic and known for his prowess with women and keeping it casual. He doesn't take anything seriously, no promises not since his father died at 15 and Dani's sisters think he is the perfect guy for a one-night stand with her. Things don't go as planned and Dani ends up injured in the ER and Sam feels a huge sense of responsibility and moves in with her since her wrist is broken.

Dani is well aware of who her boyfriends are and she chose them with purpose, she doesn't want to fall in love and instead is quite self-sufficient. She spent her childhood seeing her sick mother struggle and fail to do things and her father suffering for her. She doesn't want to feel that strongly for anyone but plans are meant to change and Sam keeps falling in deeper with her and thinking about things like dates, rules when it comes to his friends etc which freaks him out.

Dani figures him out completely and even defends him to his family and the reason for his lack of promises. Sam does run scared asking her to date someone else and all the while going crazy about it and I loved how insecure he was since Dani to be honest was a whiz at everything while he couldn't fix things. His method of wooing her in the end was hilarious, fixing things in her apartment and then sabotaging to make her come to him.

All in all I liked the book a lot.

Sexy, emotional, funny read. Loved the verbal sparring between Sam and Danicka. Also found their reasons for holding back from a relationship believable and poignant. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

These characters, Sam and Dannika, are really likable. The story is mostly one sex scene to the next, but it's not as much that one as a lot of other novels I've read (or DNF'd). Everybody has issues but nothing so overwhelming that it becomes a book about something traumatic. This was just really enjoyable, sometimes a little funny. A nice way to spend a day reading.

And Karen White is amazing on the audio. She's the reason I picked this up.

Just Like That is Book #2 in the Bradfords series and I have to say I loved Just Like That even better than book #1 Just Right!

In Just Like That we learn more about Sam, the middle sibling. Sam is the ultimate carefree, commitment phobic laid back casual guy, flocks of women are at his feet and he loves women: he loves giving them pleasure and enjoying them, but that is all. He has some serious rules: he doesn't sleep twice with the same woman, never sleeps with her after sex and he doesn't do any other leisure activity like watching a movie together or just talk. Having read about all three siblings I have to say Sam is the one who took their father's death the hardest, and he is the one who couldn't really cope with it or move on. He is a deeply hurt, scarred guy who is terrified of losing again someone he cares about and that is why he doesn't want to let anyone near and grow to love them. It is his self-preservation mechanism.

He is a lady's man through and through and that's why Danika's sisters have chosen him to help out Danika by giving her her very first orgasm! Yes, that is how these two meet: Danika is at a bar with her two sisters, discussing her problematic sex life (or lack of) and Sam and his friend Ben overhear the whole shocking conversation from the neighbouring table, since Danika's sisters don't really care about keeping it down. Of course Sam is intrigued by the challenge and that is even before he catches his first glimpse of Danika, after that:

"She swayed closer. His eyes focused on her lips for a moment and he felt a suden need to kiss her. Not just a desire to kiss her, but a demanding, do-it-or-die need."

What makes Erin Nicholas' novels stand out are the amount of humour infused in the story: usually love scenes and seductions are written in a sensual, steamy way, but in Erin Nicholas' stories you could very well laugh out loud at a line in the middle of a hot and steamy scene and that gives the whole relationship (and story) a different aspect, which I most certainly like.

Just a quick example (it was so hard to narrow down all the quotes)

"Now let's say you were going to seduce a guy. You knew you were going to see him later at a party. What would you wear?"
"My black bra and panties, I guess," she finally said.
"Did you buy those because they are sexy?"
"No. I bought them for my aunt's funeral."
Sam coughed and looked over at her again. "Excuse me?"

"Oral sex is like knitting?" Sam repeated. "This I've got to hear."

But what the reader discovers through the story is that Sam is not just the perfect lover but he is a generous and thoughtful guy: he plays Santa's elf to an 80 year old lady (sneaking into her house once a week to repair anything that is broken or needs to be fixed), his heart is made of gold, he just doesn't like to display it. I was very moved reading about what an amazing and great guy he is and how insecure and afraid he is. Losing his father at 15 and having his mother leave him at 5 caused permanent damage. My heart went out to him and I was glad to see Danika was there offering him support and love, even if Sam didn't know that was what he needed.

And again what one has come to know in Just Right (Book #1 in the series), being a romance novel does not necessarily mean that it is all fluff and candy. In Just Like That there are serious conversations about heartache and grief, and learning about Sam's and Danika's pain in losing their parents gave more substance to the novel.

Of course besides the emotional depth, the chemistry between Sam and Danika was once again phenomenal (though maybe due to their emotional tangles or because of Danika's personality, compared to Book #1 I felt it was tamer here, but still pretty steamy).

Ater finishing Book #1 I was eager to revisit the supporting characters and was so glad to see them again! Dooley, Mac and Kevin are a riot and I love all the teasing and bantering between the guys. My favourite scene hands down:

(Sam on establishing some rules regarding Danika and what his friends can and cannot do:)

"Rule number one, no talking about her when I'm not around."
"I thought rule number one was no ogling."
"Fine." Sam gritted his teeth. "No ogling. Then no talking about her."
"What if we say nice things?" Dooley asked.
"No." Sam glared at the guy who had once pretended to be his probation officer to get him out of a blind date. "Rule number three, no watching her leave the room."
"Isn't that kind of like ogling?" Mac asked smirking.
Sam turned his scowl on the guy who had once driven him sixteen hours straight so he could enter a poker tournament. "Next, no thinking about her after she is out of sight."
"How will we know she's out of sight if we can't watch her leave?"
Sam gave up.

You'll laugh, you'll cry and you'll definitely pant while reading Just Like That, it is a keeper, and if you haven't bought this series yet (why? what are you waiting for?!) Now is the time!!

Knowing Sam Bradford’s history with women from reading book one, Just Right, I wasn’t so keen on starting this one, not sure I would like him, but I wanted to get more background on all the characters since I started out reading book 3, Just My Type – which happens to be a favorite of mine due to the situational irony involved. But as it turned out, beneath Sam’s simple, shallow public image was hiding such a kind, caring person.

Summary:
Fiercely independent Danika, new to town and her recent job as a social worker at the hospital where her sister works in the E.R., has been unknowingly lured to the bar next door, where all the medical staff hang out, for the sole purpose of her two sisters hooking her up with a guy to break Danika’s self-imposed dry streak. These meddling sisters have a couple guys in mind that would be more than capable of getting the job done, so to speak; now just to ensure one guy eavesdrops on the scripted conversation.

Sam Bradford, a long-time resident of the area and paramedic at the hospital, has a strict one-night only policy with women, and never with women in his circle, like say, one that works at the hospital. Having a drink with his brother-in-law, Ben, at the bar, he never suspected he’s been set up by Ben and the E.R. nurse, when he hears the women behind him talking about orgasms - or the lack of them. A natural competitor, Sam has been hooked.

What started off as a few hours-long date, ends up in a visit to the E.R., at the very hospital where he works. A series of happenstance events later and one-night turns into a lot longer, not to mention Danika meeting all of Sam’s family, friends, and co-workers. How can a commitment-phobe like Sam allow her to become so involved in his life?

Series note:
Just Like That is book two of six primary works. Although, these are standalone romances, it is helpful to read, book one, to get the background on the side characters but not necessary.

Books one through three are about the Bradford’s: Jessica, the oldest sibling met her match, Ben, in book one; Sam, the only Bradford brother and middle sibling, meets Danika in book two; and Sara, the much younger sibling is featured in book three.

The opening scene in the bar is hilarious, and the audio book narrator, Karen White, brought the dialogue to life. Sam, being competitive and all, never stood a chance. Besides, his attraction to Danika surprised him, and the urge to protect her was a new feeling for him. Danika felt the pull too. I enjoyed the tension, interest, anticipation between them.

If you’ve read book one, Just Right, then you know the back story of Sam’s parents. This affected him differently than his sister, Jessica. Instead of wanting to take on the weight of the world, Sam hides in plain sight. He spurns the spotlight, wants no one to know about his good deeds, refuses to commit to anything or anyone for fear of being needed and failing.

Being with Danika allowed Sam to see things he’s been missing, even though he pushes her away. Lucky for Sam, Danika is clever and intelligent and arranges for Sam to be needed. I enjoyed this couple getting together, had a few laughs at their expense, and rooted for them. Despite this being an instant attraction, it is a slow burn romance.

Overall, I liked this book and would recommend it. The writing and pacing also helped earn the positive rating.

This is the second book in the Bradfords series and it’s just as good as the first. I couldn’t wait to start the next book when I finished reading this because I wanted more. I like how I was able to continue finding out the progress of the people in the previous story.

Dani has not let herself get close to any man out of fear of losing her independence. She has learned how to take care of everything that needs to be done all on her own, so she doesn’t need to depend on a man for anything. Her sisters only want to see her as happy as they are with their husbands, so they have decided to step in and help her find someone to teach her that she can enjoy being close to a man and still keep control of her life. What they don’t tell her is that they have the perfect guy in mind to teach her how to let loose and see what a guy can really offer her.

Sam is a playboy who is no handyman, and he has no desire to settle down with a woman. After overhearing the sisters talking, he figures he’s just the right guy to help Dani solve the problems she is having with men and walk away after being with her once just like the rest of the women he’s been with. What he doesn’t plan on is her breaking her wrist the first few hours they’re with each other. He feels that he has to help her out while she’s healing since it happened while she was with him. Even though he’s never spent this much time with one woman he’s sure he can help her without getting attached.

Just Like That is pure fun and enjoyment. I love how the sexy, witty banter between Danika and Sam had me smiling and laughing out loud.

After getting a glimpse of Sam and his character trait of never wanting to be needed in Just Right, I was hooked on how Danika changed him. He wanted to help her while at the same time he wanted to run in the opposite direction. He wanted to be needed by her. The idea of anyone else helping her killed him. That made me love Sam even more.

Danika needs no one. She's made sure of that because of her childhood. If it’s broken, she can fix it. However, she can’t fix a broken wrist and it kills her to have to ask anyone for help.

Sam doesn’t do relationships, period. One night and that’s it. So when Sam gives rules to his friends regarding Danika, I laughed out loud. It was priceless. That’s just one of the many moments that had me laughing.

Sam and Danika are the driving force of the story. These two characters make the book an outstanding read. The moment when they finally get together forever is perfect for them. The moment is symbolic and fitting for them.

This book is filled with humor and sexy romance. I recommend this book to any reader looking for a contemporary romance with laughs and sexy banter.

Definitely a must read.

Too much back and forth.

I wanted to like this book. I liked the hero and heroine, but their convoluted back and forth, back and forth was just confusing. He only has sex once with any woman, so his plan is to do everything but intercourse so he can be with her awhile without breaking his rule. He doesn't do relationships, doesn't want to keep her, but he gets her nude and thinks that he never wants any other guy to be with her in that way. And how is this supposed to happen again? He's such a great, likeable guy that no one can count on, but it's ok, because he's really dependable deep down, he just acts this way because he doesn't want anyone to depend on him because he doesn't want to disappoint them if he lets them down, which he does, but only on unimportant stuff because he's really dependable but only acting undependable. And she's uber independent, because her mother became physically dependent and she never wants to be dependent on anyone ever. So with her it's, I really like him, but I better not, this can never work out--again, back and forth and back and forth. These people don't need love, they need therapy.

Oh Erin Nicholas did it again! No big surprise there. She always writes the best love stories!!

Just Like That is book 2 in the Bradford’s series. It’s about laid back, fun loving, goofy, everyone’s best friend, sexy paramedic, Sam Bradford and straight forward, no nonsense, do it yourself, never had an orgasm Danika Steffen. These two have sexual chemistry like you wouldn’t believe! Sam doesn’t do relationships. Sex, yes…..forever, no way. He keeps sex to one time only. That’s it. That way, his heart won’t get involved. Well, that’s until Danika comes into his life. Danika doesn’t need a man. She can do anything and everything herself. Orgasms included. So when her sisters find out that no man has ever been able to give her one, they demand that she rectify that situation immediately. Who better for the job than Sam? This whole story is about two people learning how to let go and they definitely find out how to do that together. You’ll get smiles, friends, sexy lingerie, sexy how to’s, tears, and some real fun with butter in this one!

Happy reading! :)

This one of the series was my favorite!!! I spent so much time laughing out loud, it was perfect. Danika & her sisters conversation at the bar almost had me in tears. I loved Sam's rules for his friends where Danika is involved. Out of all the characters in The Bradford series Sam and Danika touched my heart the most! Like another reviewer said, " Now I wish there were more Bradfords! It's a shame there weren't like five or six Bradford children instead of three!!"

Really liked this one. Sam is a great character - someone who is laid back and tries to avoid responsibility for some very good reasons, but who ends up being responsible anyway. We really get to see him grow and change as a character. Dani is great. Very self-sufficient but with a good sense of humor and fun. The chemistry between them is great. This was better than book 1 of the Bradfords, and I'm definitely curious about book 2.

You can't control love

Trying to control love and relationships is futile. Sam is fighting a losing battle trying to control his feelings for Danika. The instant heat and attraction is unavoidable. It was very worthwhile watching these two people come to terms with their fate. Can't wait to start on the next book.

My favorite of the Bradfords-- LOVED Sam! Just loved so many things. Very well done, sexy, fun, but gets real too. Nicholas does a great job of combining real characters and real situations with hot sex, funny dialogue and a great story. Really makes you sigh with pleasure-- in lots of way.

Sam, oh Sam.

This is a wonderful tale of how fast a person can fall and not know it. Sam and Danika were a great match from the start. Such a great story of role reversals where she can do all the manly things and he can't.

A wonderful story!

DNF @ 50%. Not for me.
I didn't like any characters. Lead or side. Just NOPE. I tried to finish it, but I figured it wouldn't be good for my mental health. The leads drove me crazy. Like if you want to kill me, you can just force me finish this book.

Sam and Dani remind me of the 70's hit by one-hit-wonder, 10cc, and thanks to the movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, another generation was introduced to “I'm Not In Love.” Dani doesn’t need a guy, and Sam never cares enough about a girl to have a repeat and he definitely does NOT get serious. It’s always the characters who think they have everything figured out who are the most entertaining to watch when love comes sweeping in, changing all the rules, and Sam and Dani's story is a true delight! I’m right there with them in the story while Dani explains how she doesn’t need a man and Sam keeps insisting he doesn’t ever get serious, and the whole time I’m thinking, “Yeah, and I suppose you’re not in love, either.” *snicker* And then I settle back in gleefully to continue enjoying the show.

Erin Nicholas has a true gift of crafting a story and creating a reading experience that fully immerses every one of the reader's senses with characters who are loveable, perfectly flawed and endlessly captivating. They sweep you up and carry you along their journey until, far too soon, their ever after is happily reached. And darn if she doesn't make it a heck of a fun ride, dropping humor bombs smack dab in the middle of the intense and sexy times both. It’s like being slung around on a rollercoaster until the ride slows to a stop, leaving you breathless and giggling, having had the time of your life. Whether you “hang on Hannah” or throw your arms in the air and scream, Just Like That is an exhilarating, must-read ride you won’t ever forget!
