MP3 CD Format It is 1989 and the disease resulting from the testing of experimental bioweapons has ravaged much of the world. The U.K. and Europe are in chaos as the virus spreads uncontrollably. The U.S., nominally arriving in force to offer military and humanitarian assistance to their allies, are posturing dangerously with the east and failing to unite over the common enemy of humanity.

As command and control are ramping up operations over the British Isles and Europe, the remnants of Johnson's Yeomanry and the scattered troops consolidate their position on their island stronghold and begin to look to the future, but events beyond their knowledge and control force them into desperate action.

Peter, alone by choice and oddly thriving, finds himself suddenly responsible for the life of someone other than himself. Adapting with ease, the young boy begins to show the difference between nature and nurture.

Elsewhere, other survivors stake their own claims to land and resources, but the inexplicable swarms of undead threaten to gather and dissipate constantly.

Devon is from the UK, having lived in many places until finally settling in the Midlands. His career in public services started in his teens and has provided a wealth of experiences, both good and some very bad, which form the basis of the book ideas that cause regular insomnia.

He first started reading for fun as an adult, having tried his hardest to avoid anything resembling academia growing up, and at that point the world became a far bigger place. He has been reading, at least one book at a time, ever since.

His debut works, the After It Happened series, (Survival, Humanity, Society) were published in April 2016 followed by Hope (July 2016) and Sanctuary (December 2016). The first part of the series concluded with the release of Rebellion which was published in June 2017.

Storming high into the charts with the first books of the After It Happened series, Devon launched into the top 10 sellers listings in the UK, Australia, Canada and the US, and he made the decision to write full time shortly after the launch of Hope.

Devon’s self-published beginnings caused a stir in the publishing world, and resulted in contracts with Podium Publishing for Audible, narrated by R.C. Bray (The Martian, Expeditionary Force, Arisen), before a publishing deal for kindle and paperbacks with Vulpine Press.

Further works have seen the start of a multi-author series, sci-fi/post-apocalyptic cross genre, futuristic dystopian and alternative history zombie apocalypse. Spin-off books from the After It Happened world have been announced for 2018.

Book 9 in my Zombie-a-thon!

Well dang! I'm hooked. I have grown used to the old school British news broadcaster voice and love Peter and Amber. I am quite attached to the British soldiers trying to keep the civilians in their care safe from the zombie hordes. Just pure, bloody entertainment where brains are not required....well....they are, but only for squishing around in dead peoples mouths! I jumped straight into book 4 and finished it as well!

The saga continues as the hordes keep getting bigger and the humans are being tested to their limits trying to survive the never-ending onslaughts by the zombies. The military has several divisions mixed together as well and this has caused tempers to flair, egos to clash, and add to their already rising death toll. Looks like it will be a while (if ever) until there is any real rest for the weary....

"The needs of many outweigh the needs of the few..."

Stuff that! The needs of Peter, Amber and their cat is the most important of all!!!!

The perfect book if you’re looking to go to sleep.

I found this incredibly boring. I went through book 1 in the hopes that it would pick up for book 2. It didn’t. I am kinda interested in finding out about Peter but not enough to continue. It literally put me to sleep.

A great book .

Pity about the spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. You would think that sober literate people would read the text before publishing . A great story spoiled.

I enjoyed that the plot is both adding in other service branches to the military, and that Peter and Amber have a steadily moving plot that gives you an idea of how Peter's remained a fundamentally good person despite his upbringing, even if he's capable in ways that a kid his age shouldn't have to be. It bugs me a little that the two main plotlines are moving toward each other but the characters still haven't met up, but the most satisfying thing was probably seeing the problems and logistics that have to be dealt with when trying to set up a safe haven.

Military leadership and the zombie apocalypse

Interesting story line especially the posturing between different groups and the military for leadership and control. An effort was made by the author to explain military jargon. But, the story needs better editing as different groups appear suddenly and randomly without careful introduction and delineation. It made the reading more tedious than it needed to be for an unusual and interesting take on the zombie apocalypse.

I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title within the series set box. (Audible Membership)

The world in England had changed irretrievably, but the fight for survival still was raged by both the army, who now defended an island stronghold and two small children, who showed gumption and sense, when faced with a world that had reverted to what could only equate to an 18+ horror movie.

The hordes grow bigger

And the fighting continues but poor little Peter and Amber are still trying to survive. I am so ready to start the next book and continue their journey. Devon Ford is an awesome story teller and knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat. Keep writing,Mr. Ford, keep writing.

Struggling with this.
I love Peters storyline but couldn’t care less about the rest. On one hand I want to read it to find out what happens to Peter, on the other it’s really boring and I don’t care about the rest. I don’t know. I wish it only followed Peters story.

Politics is entering into the fight, selfish self-interest often sends us down a wrong path.

Damn. The UK has been abandoned?!? I wanna know the little boy is going to be okay. This is like a time capsule of the last. Reminds of being a kid in the 80’s

Definitely one of the more enjoyable and well-written 'Complete Series of Pulp Zombie Novels for One Credit' bundles I've come across in my short time on Audible.

Book Two continues the series in much the same vein. I found this (and the series as a whole) a really fun read to pass the evenings after long days of work, and it was refreshing to read zombie post-apoc not only set in England, but also set in the 1980s.

After enjoying John Lee's narrative work on two of Alastair Reynolds' sci-fi books earlier in the year, he really adds a touch of class to an oft-maligned sub-genre.

John Rafter Lee narrating Sergeant Major Dean Johnson is the best part of book 1 and 2!

His acting and accent are perfect when he says, "Trooper Nevin. I can only assume, having never met the man, that your father wished you had been a wank! You, Trooper Nevin, are a 5'6" walking advert for condoms!"

My biggest complaint with this series so far is that I feel like all six books could've been condensed into one long book. There's not a lot going on in many of the chapters except explaining who the dozens of military personnel are, what they do, and what they're waiting for. But I'm sticking with it because of John Lee's fantastic narration. So onto book 3 of 6!

2 orphans and a cat

Love this series, from the time it is set in to the attitude of the REMF .
Trust the military to frack up a system that works by putting in an officer that hasn't got a clue in charge.
Well now that the balloon has gone up what will happen next.
I look forward to more from this series.

Wow

Did not want to put this down. I was in the army during the period this book is set. It's accuracy is brilliant. The difference between the two main story lines of professional military units and the children to is acute. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, can't wait to start the next in the series.

Good read nice length to the book. The story is great a little bit too much military than my usual zombie fiction books didn't enjoy this one as much as first one still a good read overall

Still shaping up into a good tale with a good focus on the interplay of people causing themselves so many problems with the zombies being just zombies.

Excellent series

Although some jargon was missed I enjoyed reading the first two books of this series. Makes a person think of potential of events if there was an outbreak
