How to Write Popular Music - How to Perform Music - How to Record Music - How the Music Business Works - George Martin is one of the world's most celebrated record producers. He is best known for launching the Beatles by giving them their first recording contract, and he produced every Beatle Album.
This is the book that started it all for me. My best friends father, who owned a recording studio, bought this book for him and I subsequently read it too and not long after I decided this was all I wanted to do in life. This book is dated in many regards, but so many of the concepts and philosophies of recording and music production are the same today. Even though so many of us work with computers and not tape, and plug-ins and not true outboard gear, this book still holds true. I can say that it changed my life and is well worth the read...I mean come on, THE George Martin wrote it!!
It is an amazing very comprehensive of facts about the uses and discoveries of new instruments, sounds, as well as artists, who made generations listen the evolution of the music and its rythm. So, "Making Music: The guide to writing, performing & recording" by Sir George Martin is a book not merely to read, but to research about how a maestro could use his talent to make instruments and musicians sounds improve their perfeccionism as modern as possible, perhaps, as never seen before.
Interesting guide to writing, performing and recording. Good discussions on song writing by Paul Simon and Paul McCartney. A lot of the stuff on synths and recording is probably dated, I'm not sure. Didn't read all of it.
