Okay, so I like this story. A lot. There was more plot to this book than was present in the previous installment. However, the sex was worse. So much worse. I rolled my eyes dozens upon dozens of times.

I’m so conflicted about this series. On the one hand, it’s a really interesting concept, full of fun and compelling characters. On the other, it’s just so consumed with sex. Don’t get me wrong. I’ve been very happily married for 11 years. I love sex. It’s incredibly fun, especially when it’s with the person you love most in the world. However, there’s something about how Danann has written her sex scenes in the past couple of books that just really turns me off. It’s eye-rollingly bad. Seriously, there was a scene at the end of this book that involved toes fondling a scrotum. I actually said “Ick.” Out loud. And had to explain to my husband why I was saying ick while reading a sex scene.

This is the kind of story I would have eaten up in my late teens and early twenties, when I was newly married and running on hormones. But now, books with this level of descriptive sex scenes just strike me as cheesy, and I have a hard time pushing through to the more interesting plot. But this is a personal preference. I’m not a big read of erotica, and I prefer to read about the feelings evoked during sex than the physical mechanics of the act. That being said, I know there is a huge audience for this type of story. Fans of Anita Blake and Sookie Stackhouse would undoubtedly love this series, and I highly recommend it for them. I guess I’ve just lost my taste for such stories.

However, I’ll more than likely pick up the fourth book in Danaan’s Black Swan series eventually. Even though I’m not a fan of how she writes sex, I do really enjoy the story and the cast of characters she’s created, and I want to see where their story goes. Eventually. But right now I need a break from beautiful people who have sex on the brain even in the midst of life-or-death situations. It’s just too much for me right now.

I suppose it now qualifies as a tradition that I write a review of my own book. In some ways this is the most fun - the cherry on top of the very mixed bag of being an author. Was that a messy metaphor? Oh, yeah. One of the great things about accumulating a little recognition is gaining permission to break some rules.

Baka's story has been like a pressure cooker in my chest for the past several months. Getting it out there is a marvelous relief because now I'm no longer the only one who knows where we were headed. While preparations have been laid in these first three books for some of the other stories that follow, I don't expect any future installments to take the emotional toll that this book did.

A Summoner's Tale is dark, not in the sense of blood and gore, but in the sense of physical, psychic, and emotional pain along with the scariest thing any human ever confronts, that - from beginning through middle to end, no matter how we may try to fool ourselves into thinking otherwise - we are alone. Is the subject matter and treatment deeper than one normally encounters in paranormal romance? Yes. BUT, I insist on my HEA endings. I'm hopelessly romantic, thoroughly American, and possibly suffering from arrest of development at around age four when my dad would laugh at me for requesting to hear "Snow White" every night.

In a sense this book is also a test of readership. If you have read all three books and are in for a fourth, then we, as reader and author, are a match because each of these first three books is very different.

I'm in the process of building a Profile of a Black Swan reader. Here's what I've got so far.

1. A Black Swan reader is literate. Someone asked me once for the grade level equivalent of my books. I didn't know, but was directed to some online testers that can be used to determine that. I discovered that my books read at the 9th-11th grade level. I was horrified. Then I spent half a day testing about fifteen celebrity PNR authors. The typical rank was 3rd - 7th grade although two or three made it all the way to 6th - 8th. That's why I believe I can make the claim that Black Swan readers are comparatively literate. To illustrate, let me cite a quote from Reviewing in Chaos: "Let me just say SQUEEEEE!"

2. A Black Swan reader appreciates descriptive detail. - Black Swan readers don't see description as unnecessary and superfluous. They understand that it's the details that layer richness and depth into the story. They also have the maturity to know that patience brings greater rewards.

For example, here is a quote from Booked and Loaded, my favorite so far:
As multiple stories are seemingly unrelated, each brings with it a new dimension that begins to form a pattern that slowly leads all players to one key game, one final showdown to succeed and emerge intact. It is the chase to the end, the multiple and variant tensions, the characters that have become your friends, your heroes and your entertainment keep you reading long past bedtime and into the night – for you need to know how it all ends.

3. A Black Swan reader values characterization and believes that who characters are is as important - if not moreso - than what they do.
All the characters are amazing, strong, handsome, loyal, and married to women who are their equals. - Linda Tonis, The Paranormal Romance Guild.

4. A Black Swan reader is receptive to new experience. In other words, Black Swan readers don't either want or demand the same plug-in-character's-name-here story over and over again.

To all you who fit this profile, thank you for being you. What would I do without you?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Another wonderful, gripping installment! The third book in the Order of the Black Swan series was packed with the elaborate back story of the Vampire Baka, and broken up by the nail-biting suspense of Elora's "retirement."

So here's what we know about Baka -

Oh, I need to point something out that bothered me *pushes glasses up to the bridge of my nose* In book two, Elora makes the comment about Monq probably being "Smarter than Einstein" only to find out from Grey and Simon that Einstein never existed in the present dimension. However, as Baka lists the various scholars whose woe he has studied, he lists Einstein among the people he has read... Sorry, just needed to mention that...

Like the first two books in the series there is a strong story line, amazing character development and great timing that keeps the story moving at a perfect pace... IF you don't have to put the book down at any point during your day that is! There is action/adventure, love/romance (and some heartbreak), vampires, elves, werewolves and demons (Oh my!) a gorgeous smart and brave dog and a wolf pack. The locations are so beautifully described you feel like you are there. From book one where you meet all the characters and get the story started, through book two where we meet new characters and get to visit characters we already love and into book three you get so tangled up in the characters lives and, in my case, finally let one character into your heart. It's a magical ride that just keeps getting better and better!

Love Victoria Danann's Books! This was a continuation from The Order of the Black Swan series. I did not know what a summoner was. I was pleasantly surprised to find out. This is Baka's story. But we still got to see Elora & Ram, Storm & Litha, Kay & Katrina from the other books. I found out what a Charger is. Was so excited to see this. This book is so well written that I could picture the whole thing in my mind like I was watching a movie. Must mention it has Vampire, Elves, Demon's, Witches,Berserkers, & Wolves!!! This is a must read. It has Romance,Fantasy, & Paranormal!!! Get your copy & get lost in this tale Just like I did!!

Book Three of the Black Swan series is a bit of a departure from the first two books, in that it has a somber, more introspective tone overall. Considering that it revolves so much around Baka and his reflections about his misdeeds throughout his very long life, had the tone been anything other than what it was, it would not have been nearly as effective. Victoria Danaan proves she has a deft touch in writing different types of material, while keeping true to her unique writing style. We did get to journey along with the other members of the Black Swan team through some amazing adventures. I can't wait to see what's up next for them. If you haven't already, be sure and put this tale on your "must read" list. This story just keeps getting better!

I received an advanced copy of "A Summoner's Tale". Now if you have not read "My Familiar Stranger" and "The Witch's Dream" you really should because you will find yourself feeling like you missed something. This book deals with a secret society, knights, witches, demons, vampires, werewolves, fairies, fae, berserkers, etc... With all that going for it, it's also a love story. Victoria Danann has a true talent for story telling. She has created a wonderful story line that I had trouble putting down once I started reading. I can't wait to see where she will take us(readers) in "The Order Of The Black Swan" series.

I received A Summoners Tale as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Let me first say how disappointing it is when reading a series and as the books progress they loose focus and direction of all the characters that made you fall in love in the first place. Well, so not the case with Order Of The Black Swan. If at all possible, the series gets better as it goes along. I read this book within 24hrs, just couldn't put it down. I loved all the insight and history we were given about Baka, gave us so much more about his life, how he got to where he was. What I enjoyed most is that Victoria never left B Team behind, they were all covered in this book just as much as Bakas story. The book was full of history, action, adventure, romance, friendship, heck, just a great storyline. Truly look forward to book four, great series, truly entertaining. I would recommend starting with book one, you really need to know the history of all the characters in order to truly understand.

So far Istvan Baka is the only character in one of Victoria Danann's books that I have immediately seen as an actual person. For whatever reason, since My Familiar Stranger I have pictured Baka looking exactly like Robert Carlyle. I don't know if he's ever played a vampire before, BUT, he is stuck in my head and I love him as Baka! A Summoner's Tale is a fantastic tale all about Istvan Baka. But, don't worry, your old characters are still here, and the story still goes on! The best thing about this book is that you get to see a good person finally having good things happening to him! Plus we get to finally meet Elora's baby, and what an entrance did he make!

"Let's Go Get The Wanker"

As a member of the Order of the Black Swan's A-Team, I received an early copy of "The Summoner's Tale" in exchange for a honest review....This is the 3rd book in the Black Swan series by Victoria Danann....I suggest you read them in order since the characters are entwined in her storyline of each book.
"The Summoner's Tale" is Baka's story....he's intense yet vulnerable, an accomplished vampire who has lived centuries yet his quest to "fix" his kind could have been his undoing....The one woman who shunned him, who ignored him, who purposely pushed him away would end up being his savior.....Baka's little piece of "Heaven".....
I can not wait for the next book in the fabulous series!

This was such a great book. It's a must read that keeps you wanting to keep reading and not put the book down!! All the books in this series give you so much back ground on everyone that you are filling what they are and finding yourself tearing up (or crying).... Such a greatly written book I can't wait till the next one.

This review is from: A Summoner's Tale - The Vampire's Confessor (Black Swan 3) (Kindle Edition)

This series is far more than the total sum of its words. This is a breathtaking cannot put it down even if it is 3:00 am epic adventure.

The characters are so well developed that the reader identifies with them, cheers them on and can wholly empathize with their trials. This parallel world takes our history, changing its defining moments by a simple deed or decision. The author plays out these facts and their affect on the current world known by these complex characters. I am amazed at how the author does this logically, yet dramatically with realistic results in the universe where those choices or decisions play out.

Ms. Danaan is a masterful writer who weaves a story that flows seamlessly. She leads you down a path, then takes detours creating new forks in every road. You will be kept guessing, you will be intrigued and yes you will be surprised. My Familiar Stranger, The Witch's Dream and now The Summoners Tale should be on your must read list.

The Black Swan series is one that through its brilliant and detailed storytelling will become the classics our kids (when grown) will read about and love in generations to come.

This is not a story about fairies, vampires and witches. As I stated above, this is an epic adventure that includes things we dream about and what becomes possible in a world where we and they unwittingly co-exist.

Baka Rocks!!!!

This is Baka's story, He is an ex-vampire, A really yummy, sexy vampire who wants to "fix" his kind and it is almost his undoing.
He finds the love of his life in his assistant Heaven, but she ignores and out right shuns him. Then........"His little piece of Heaven" becomes his savior.
We will still see Elora, Ram, Storm and all of our B Team, they only thought they were retired, I knew that would only last for as long as took for trouble to find one of them!
I hardily suggest the first two books are read first as this is an on going saga of friendships and family being found and forged together over time and tribulations.
I gave this book 5 stars, the same as the first 2 but only because that's all there is!

This is the third book in an awesome series! I loved all three stories! Once I started reading "A Summoner's Tale" I couldn't put it down! I read it in one day! I especially love that it has all my favorite paranormal characters; Werewolves, Vampires, Demons, Witches, Fairies and Elves! I love them all and was so happy to find a book involving all of them! This is a must read story but I do suggest that you read the other two (My Familiar Stranger and The Witch's Dream)in the series first!

This book is just as great as the others! It was so nice to learn more about Baka and his history. Baka definitely waited for his chance with his soul mate, Heaven! Cant really say much more, except it's a must read! & enjoy! ;)

I had the good fortune to receive an advance copy of A Summoner's Tale, making me the object of envy from my friends who are also big "Black Swan" fans. A Summoner's Tale picks up where book 2 (The Witch's Dream) left off and takes off at a run! This book delves into Baka's life history (that OH so sexy vampire)and that of his assistant, Heaven, and moves their strained relationship in a new direction. If you expected that Elora and Ram, Storm and Litha, and Kay and Katrina were settled into new lives and out of this story, you will be happily surprised. They are far from "retired". This story has loads of romance, love, longing, excitement, fear, and drama, and shows the amazing friendships that exist among the B team's members. I would love to give you more details, but I don't want to spoil it for you.

Although the entire book is wonderful, for me the very best part is how each of our well-loved characters is woven into the lives of the others. Victoria literally brings her characters to life: they feel real, as if you have known them for years. Vampire, elves, berserkers, witches, and demons are the norm. And as new characters are introduced, they seemlessly integrate into the weave of the story, providing even more depth and richness.

I absolutely loved this book. Read it! (And if you haven't read books 1 and 2 of the Black Swan series, read them first!) I give it five stars and now can't wait for book 4 of The Black Swan series.

I started out with high expectations... They were definitely EXCEEDED!!!

This book was almost emotionally exhausting!!! (biggest compliment, in my opinion!!) I was on the edge of my seat, I was laughing out loud, I was squealing out loud with worrisome suspense, and I was crying my eyes out!!! LOL I was so emotionally invested in these characters, that it felt as if I was experiencing everything they were!!!

One of the most spectacular thing about Victoria's writing is her enigmatic ability to make her female characters SO strong without minimizing the male leads in any way! She creates characters, (both male and female) that are SO strong, independent, protective, loving, relatable, and hilariously flawed that somehow NEVER put-down or suppress the opposite sex to emphasize their own magnificence.. LOVE her writing!!!

I was almost disappointed in the direction I THOUGHT the storyline was headed in, but I should have known better... Victoria continues to unfold fresh, unpredictable stories for the characters I LOVE!!!

I'm also excited about some of the new, endearing and enticing characters she has introduced!!! I LOVE to see the hilarious interactions of my favorite characters dealing with new personalities!!!

Complex emotional storyline that left me emotionally wrung out, yet satiated and happy... Loved it doesn't say enough!

Once again Victoria tells an epic tale of romance and paranormal blended together so well that even when you get to the most logical end of the tale, you don't want it to end!

I do not want to give away any spoilers and since I received an advance copy-I promised that I would not. I just want to say that I love company B and even though the vampire menace has been contained and they have all retired--we still get to keep caught up with them. This series is epic since we get to continue along with company B and get introduced to new characters along the way.

I love that there are no major cliffhangers between books, but we get new conflicts and old ones we didn't even know about rear their ugly heads as the series continues. Our cast of characters continues to grow and are dealing with new challenges and consequences with each book.

You want to read this series in order because like I said we are moving forward and not spending a lot time recapping and talking about what happened before.

Thanks Victoria, another great book in the series and I can't wait to see what is next for company B, friends and family!

This is my favorite book in the series to date. If you are looking for a phenomenal read and an author who can keep you turning pages then you have found one. Mrs. Dannan will entertain you with quotes that will have you saying "Great Paddy" and laughing so hard you will not want to be drinking anything that will come through your nose while reading. This series is full of love, hate, sex ( I so love peanut butter now), vampires staked with a mere toothpick, sexy dancing elves, fire starting half witch/ half sex demon women, a vampire who is also a romance novelist, inter-dimensional assassins, kids that would make any mom proud, great music, and a love that spans dimensions. That is just the tip of the iceberg as far as what this world that Mrs. Dannan invites us into has to offer.

Top quality once again. This series is just excellent. There isn't as much about Baka and Heaven as I was expecting but this is in no way detrimental to the story. Instead, you are taken back to Baka's life from childhood, through him being a vampire right up to the current day. In this was, you learn more about Heaven and who she is and what her gift is.

You also get the chance to catch up on "old" favourites and enjoy as they all intermingle with each other.

Definitely one of the best series I've read in a while. Can't wait for Book 4!

This is the third book in the Order of the Black Swan. Again, I must stress it is best to read them in order.

I think this might be my favourite one so far, and I loved the others. Perhaps I would give this one 5 stars plus. The story had me at the edge of my seat for most of the book. Both Baka and Elora had me biting my nails and frequently in tears. I can't believe I haven't mentioned Blackie in my reviews of the previous books. I suppose there are just so many wonderful characters and events in each book that it is hard to cover them all without spoilers. And I don't want anything to spoil your experience of these books. That said, Blackie plays a very important part in this story. It will make you hug your dog even more and if you don't have a dog, this might make you go out and adopt one.

There are also so many unforgettable images in this book; the snow falling in an Irish forest, the howl of wolves, an infant's cry. This is a book about love, loyalty, and sacrifice. There are so many examples of incredible bravery in this story both human and nonhuman. A Summoner's Tale is darker than the others in the series but is not without humour. We are now aware of what can be lost and how fragile existence can be. Your whole life can change in an instant. Perhaps because it is darker, the joys are even deeper.

One final thing, NEVER FORGET YOUR CELL PHONE.

In this third installment of the series you have Istvan Baka ( Ex-Vampire, this tid-bit alone should intrigue you enough to read the series ) and Heaven McBride. When Istvan first shows up his new assistant Heaven wants nothing to do with him. She is purposely rude to him at every opportunity, no matter how nice he is to her. However, when he goes missing she is worried about him and instantly feels bad for the way that she had treated him. Heaven along with Alesong and some other friends take it upon themselves to try and figure out what happened to Baka. During this time Heaven is hit with a revelation and realizes just how much Baka really means to her. Meanwhile Ram and Elora are at the Cabin while expecting the baby and Elora makes friends with a pack of wolves along with Blackie. While the people that attacked and killed Elora's family have found their way to Elora to finish off the family. Now Elora all alone in the woods with the help of Blackie and the Wolf pack have to face off with this group of men until help comes. Once again there is so much to tell but I don't want to ruin it... This is once again another great addition. If I hadn't already been hooked I definitely would be by now. Another highly recommended read! :O)

This is Baka's story; but all our favorite characters from the first 2 novels are there as well along with some new ones that you will come to love. Do you think souls can find each other across time? This is the core of the book...what happens when Baka and his new assistant Heaven McBride cross paths and as the book progresses find the answer to the question.

Heaven's character has a unique ability...when she plays her flute she can call entities with the music. A talent that will come in handy when Baka gets himself in a mess and B-Team and company have to rescue him.

Reading the novels in order is highly recommended so that you get the full, vibrant picture that Ms. Danann paints with her words as she reports on the happenings of the residents in Loti Dimension.

Be sure to have the fourth book Moonlight on hand to jump right in when you are done reading The Summoner's Tale!

A Summoner's Tale is the third book in Victoria Danann's Black Swan Series, this is a great Series to read so if you have not yet read "My Familiar Stranger" which is Book One and "The Witche's Dream" Book 2. you should start there! My Familiar Stranger caught my attention a while back and needless to say I've been hooked on these books ever since.

A Summoner's Tale continues with the Story of Baka and Heaven, and it would be a Sin if I say anything else!

I like Victoria's writing it is not a cookie cutter of other supernatural series I've read it is very original and it combines the best group of people that I may normally see not working together, yet it works for her!

Victoria Danann’s A Summoner’s Tale is truly amazing.

This is Baka’s story, so a bit darker than the first two books. Learning about all he experienced through the ages adds unbelievable depth to his character and makes him all the more compelling to the reader.

I also truly enjoyed Elora’s adventure into motherhood as well as her new loyal protectors.

Victoria did a fantastic job of showing how these two main characters share so many personality traits. It is enlightening to see how they share similar experiences helping them bond even more as friends for the ages.

Definitely my favorite book in the saga . . . . so far! Please keep them coming, Ms Danann!

This is the 3rd book in the Black Swan series and it will totally blind side you! It was not what I expected to read, but it was absolutely wonderful. Victoria lets the character of Baka, the vampire be told from a vampire point-of-view. It was a turn in the series that I thought was perfect, and very well done! You still get to catch-up with the other members of "B" Team, but oh what a vampire's tale can do to you... I could not put this one down! Here is hoping that book number 4 comes out soon!!! :)

This story centers around Baka the vampire and his reflections of all he had done in his past. The excitement surrounding the baby's birth was just great. Victoria makes you feel like you are right there watching Elora go through everything. You will want to help her. Baka..what can I say...I love this ex vampire!! He is just so..I can't even describe it. This book is so good. If you haven't read the first two books in the series I recommend reading them first so you don't miss anything.
