A house on the French Riviera. Three weeks stuck with her ex-boyfriend with no escape. Memories that refuse to go away and anger that was never resolved.
Genevieve Bennett thought Jackson Thatcher-Miles was a thing of her past. In the nine years since their breakup, she has successfully managed to avoid him at all cost. Despite her efforts, when their friends organize a trip to Saint Tropez with the intent to play matchmaker, Gen's past comes back with vengeance.
When a booking error leaves them sharing close quarters, Gen is forced to use all her efforts to keep him at arms length. Jackson, however, is dead set on the opposite. With every new advance Jackson makes, Gen takes a step back. The question is, what is she supposed to do when her back is against a wall with Jackson towering over her?
Stolen kisses lead to more and old wounds are ripped open. Are they finally going to get their happy ending, or will old reservations leave them worse off than before?
Hey, I’m Nicole Ryan. I write romance with heart, heat, and just enough emotional wreckage to keep things interesting. My books are for anyone who loves messy characters, slow burns, and maybe shedding a few tears when they least expect it.
I’ve been writing since I was a kid, mostly as an escape, and the one bright spot back then was hanging out with my grandma at the local paper where she worked as a copy editor. She believed in my stories before I did.
My debut, Second Chance Vacation, came out of the kind of grief that reshapes you after losing my youngest sister back in 2022. Since then, I’ve written Mostly Loathing You and The Very First Night, where love gets a second chance and time stops playing by the rules.
I’m a Libra, but let’s be honest, my Virgo moon is the one running the show. I spend an alarming amount of time convincing myself I need just one more book, blaming my moods on the moon or retrograde, and pulling tarot cards I probably wasn’t ready for. If there's a little magic in the air, I’m probably already halfway to plotting a book about it.
Thanks for being here. The story’s just getting started.
i’d like to thank the author, nicole ryan, for giving me an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review! 🫶🏻
this is a really cute read that’s perfect for summer. it follows gen and jackson as they reunite, unknowingly, on a trip to the french riviera. it’s a really easy book to get through, full of sweet moments, spice, friendships, and a great setting. the only complaint i have is that i wish we knew a little more about the characters when they were younger, but even without it you still care for them and want them to grow together.
gen is a unique character and i enjoyed learning more about her. she’s had a hard life and is afraid of some things because of that, including getting too close to people. she has a super great support system though and her friendship with savannah is really cute. the friendships in this book are written very well, along with the romance, which i enjoyed a lot.
i’m really excited for book two in this series! congratulations on your debut, nicole.
Let me start by saying by the title and the cover I REALLY wanted to love this book. It's a second chance romance, witty banter and soulmates. Also I am POSITIVE there are people who adore this book and I am so glad for them. None of my opinion is reflective of the author, just that this book was not for me. I unfortunately DNF'd this book. The FMC Genevieve was a little grating, and her petulant behavior was annoying for her age in this book. With her near constant whining throughout her chapters is what made me ultimately give up on this book. The only reason I got to almost two-thirds of the book was thanks to the MMC POV chapters. But even then it was just Jackson chasing after Gen to calm her back down again.
This was a fantastic, dual POV, childhood friends to lovers, second chance vacation romance. Steamy but full of emotional depth.
I loved what a cinnamon roll Jackson was and he definitely has no trouble making sure she comes first. Meanwhile Genevieve (Gen) is still traumatized from the death of her mother when she was four and suffers from panic attacks around water.
She also has trouble trusting herself in relationships and walked away from a good thing with Jackson. Thankfully a trip to the French Riviera with their friends proves a perfect opportunity for Jackson to convince Gen to give them another shot.
Great on audio narrated by Savannah Thomas, I devoured this as soon as it landed in my library. Highly recommended especially for fans of Emily Henry’s People we meet on vacation.
Kudus to the author for a standout debut! - I will be first in line to read the next book in this Just Peachy series!!
The joys of having a cute little romance book that you can finish in a couple of hours! Legit my favorite. The character are amazing to grow with, along with learning about them over time! It didn’t feel like their relationship before was thrown in my face, I feel like I learned about it over time which I love. Want some cute and a little spicy! This one’s for you. Gen is a character I relate with on every level! Being afraid of things because of your past is something I will always understand. I’m glad to see a character I can so closely relate to on things like that. The way Jeremiah let’s her be her and trying to pull the best out of her reminds me of my life as well. This is an amazing read if you need a short read and a fast one!

Personally, I didn't like Gen at all. She's so selfish through the entire book. Only taking her own feelings into consideration. She doesn't care about Jackson nearly as much as he does her. She's in lust with him while he's in love with her. Personally if I was Hannah I'd have to fight her for playing with my brothers feelings 😤 I can't stand her I swear.
She leaves him with no real explanation and then has the absolute AUDACITY to be offended when he's on the trip. I wish he had more self-respect. If this book was reversed and Jackson was the one who dipped in the end and then came back with an attitude we'd all be telling her to stand up but nooo for some reason it's desirable because the man does it?
To pretend that some man who looks as good as Jackson apparently does wouldn't get sick of being treated like absolute garbage is insane. I want to give him the pep talk I give all my homegirls when they can't leave that no good man alone.
Also, some of the explanations fell flat. Like the reason they had to share a bed the whole weekend. Like really 😒 yall can't sleep on the couch 😮💨 Ohhhh brother
The way she broke up with him the beginning. Yeah, okay, personally I would've gone and put instant mashed potatoes on her lawn and rubber bands on her driveway cause what do you mean summer fling 🥴 Did I consent to a summer fling? Like? You knew you didn't want this forever, and you played in my face the whole summer?
Yeah, okay. This would've been my villain origin story. I would've slept with every single one of her friends and sent her photos of it.
I hope he cheats on her 🤞

Constantemente enojada y siempre controlando a Jackson.
This book was everything I never knew I needed for a second chance romance.
I had the privilege to meet Nicole the day after SCR released at a book signing and couldn’t wait to read this book. It did sit on my shelf a longer than planned but it was worth the wait.
Gen and Jax are convinced to go on a three week trip with their friends, Wes and Savannah. Not knowing that they are each going, they meet at the airport which was a little awkward for them both.
In the Southern Part of France with only one bed, one of the best tropes 🫶🏻, Gen and Jax have to figure out a way to get along and not ruin the vacation.
I loved everything about this book, getting to read Gen and Jax both heal from their first chance together and growing with the time they spent a part was perfect. I am so ready for the next book!
Her writing was easy to follow and the story is forward and to the point! I enjoyed reading about the reconnection of their love and getting past trials from the past. Will definitely be looking forward to Liam and Hannah because I think Hannah is a bit more fiery like myself!
“I’m reminded that, despite it all, despite the pain and the heartache of losing those you love, that’s what it’s all about. Loving and being loved-that’s home.”
Wow I loved this book so much. I cried serval times and was fr screaming at the author for hurting me. I had an actual puddle of tears on my pillow at one point.
I LOVE grumpy x sunshine books AND a man with golden retriever energy omfg. Also love a plus size FMC and how obsessed this man is w her body…I melt.
Fantastic debut novel and I cannot wait to read the next installment in the series!
Thank you Nicole for sending me an ARC, I cherish this book.
I’m a sucker for a second chance romance trope, and I got this on Stuff your kindle day. I really just picked it because there weren’t a lot of black stories to choose from. I knew it would have some spice to it (one of the sites I was on said so), which in turn meant it was going to have the (0(k word on it. Yea it was said 7 times, and my skin crawled all 7 times 😂😂😂😂 but I got past it because the book was actually good. I even cried a little at a specific part with her and her father. All in all the book was good even with that darn C word being used. Can we petition to take that word out of smut vocabulary? Like seriously, it’s not sexy lol.
This was such a cute summery romance! We love a good “the one that got away” 🤭
I LOVED Jackson so much, this sweet sweet man, but Gen made me want to SCREAM 😭 i literally just wanted to grab her shoulders and shake her MULTIPLE times throughout the book lol.
The ending was adorable and HIGHLY looking forward to Hannah and Liam’s book 🤩
I can’t believe that this was a debut novel! I’m so impressed! I found myself wanting to continue reading and thinking about what comes next each time I put it down. I cannot wait for book two!
genevieve. gen. vivi. vi. whatever the fuck she wants to be called is one insufferable bitch. i support women’s right and women’s wrongs but not when you break up with your boyfriend to run away from him with no good reason. and then to cry about it. bitch?!?
1 star for jackson thatcher miles. hot man, hotter name.
Thank you for this ARC of your debut, Nicole! 💛 This was such a cute, easy read! Happy to add Jackson to the list of book boyfriend’s on my mind Can’t wait for Hannah & Liam’s book!
What a cute little love story. Gen and Jackson are absolutely adorable. Second Chance romance with some forced proximity thrown in there. If those are your jam, this book is for you.
It was a quick read, and yet it felt like 2 different books?? Like they were home from the vacation at 65%? Call me old fashioned but I like my vacation-plot books to take place almost only during the vacation.
Jackson (the MMC) was such a joy to read about. I struggled a little bit with the FMC, but after understanding her commitment issues a bit more, I found her more relatable.
The two main characters were in a relationship when they were younger and when it got too deep, the FMC left.
Their friends planned a vacation to France where they forced them to stay in the same house, making them deal with their past.
I quickly devoured this one and can't wait to continue on with the series!
You get: • Second Chance • Forced Proximity • Vacation • He Fell First • Spicy • Fearful FMC • Golden Retriever MMC
I highly recommend this book! This one is available on Amazon through KU, ebook, paperback, and audio book!
i cannot tell you how much fun it was reading this book, like it put me in such the summer vibes. And i’m literally so in love with jackson like pretty much everything about him though idk about that once scenes in this new bedroom (no spoiler) but i don’t know how i feel about that i forgive him for what he did after but it like i cannot erase that from my mind. But the way he treats gen and him falling for her all o i cannot tell you how much fun it was reading this book, like it put me in such the summer vibes. And i’m literally so in love with jackson like pretty much everything about him though idk about that once scenes in this new bedroom (no spoiler) but i don’t know how i feel about that i forgive him for what he did after but it like i cannot erase that from my mind. But the way he treats gen and him falling for her all over again UGHH my heart <3 ohh and the way he reacted to gen’s body compared to how she thought he would have reacted chef’s kiss. now Gen i adore her everything about her she’s just so perfect like i don’t even know how to describe it and strong she is so strong like the things that she had to go through and with ex’s at such a young age, though i still don’t really understand why this had to be a second chance romance like don’t get me wrong i ate this book up but i don’t get exactly why it she ended things between them in the first place. Don’t even get me started on the second couple like sav and wes omfggg i ate that up too like the little romance i read about them, sjndjsndjsjnsnii love them so much. now the little scenes of hannah and liam NICOLE what the actual **** were you thinking giving us that scenes and then making us wait until 2024 for hannah and liam’s book wtfffffff like i cannot do that i could quite literally see their trope from a mike away while reading this HVBVB

4.5⭐️ I absolutely binged this and loved it so much! I’m such a sucker for first loves/second chance and this hit the mark for me 🥹
Genevieve has not seen her high school ex Jackson since they broke up 9 years ago. Her best friend invites her on an all expenses paid trip to Saint Tropez with her, her boyfriend and his roommate from college, unbeknownst to Gen that she’s being set up on a 3 week long blind date. That is, until she realizes the mystery man is the man she’s been doing her best to forget all this time.
I was hooked from the prologue since we immediately found out that Jackson was an absolute SIMP for Gen even back when they were teenagers. I love a good forced proximity/one bed situation and the tensions were so high with this the chemistry was just sizzling. The little bits of steam as they were getting used to being around each other again were killingggg me. I had butterflies the whole read and was giggling and kicking my feet 😮💨 Gen’s history hit me so hard with being the mom to a 4 year old (when you read, you’ll find out why it hurts so bad) and even though the distance she put between herself and Jackson was for a reason that made sense, my heart just hurt so bad for him. I wish we had gotten just a little bit more of a history between them or more flashbacks to them growing up (he was her best friend’s brother!!!) but I still loved them so dang much 🥹
Tropes: Forced proximity Second chance Golden retriever/black cat One bed First loves Plus size/curvy FMC
Second chance romance Slow burn Forced proximity One bed Dual POV
Jackson: “Sit.” Gen: “I am sitting.” Jackson: “No, you’re not. You’re hovering. Now sit.”
I mean. Yes sir.
Jackson and Gen. Her best friends (Hannah) brother. They grew up together. Had a two month fling right before he goes off to college thinking they will be together. Right before he leaves, she dumps him.
9 years later, goes on a trip to the south of France with her best friend, Savannah and her boyfriend. Turns out boyfriend brings his best friend… and the comedy of errors ensues.
One of my favorite scenes has to be the couples massage. That was 🔥🔥🔥
I really enjoyed Gen, she has a traumatic past, and it has seeped into her relationships. I was starting to get mad at Gen, like just tell Jackson he can have you, but she doesn’t feel like she’s enough for Jackson.
I am excited for the second book in this Just Peachy series. It will be with Hannah and Jackson’s best friend, Liam. Hannah and Liam hate each other. I can’t wait to see how that unfolds!
