Murder in the Movies

Rate this book
Former film industry insider Katlin Wallace returns to her Hollywood stomping grounds and finds it's as crazy as ever. She's surrounded by drama, heartbreak, backstabbing and murder. Only this time, the action is not on the set, but in the real life of her close friend, whose movie-star daughter has been accused of murder. Witnesses claim they saw Lane Allison push her producer husband down a flight of stairs during a party. Katlin's arrived to offer moral support-and a little help proving Lane didn't do it. It's not easy to ditch the swarm of tabloid reporters hounding anyone close to the story, but Katlin has a few tricks up her sleeve. She just never expected a killer to turn the focus on her--promising a Hollywood ending that will take her breath away. Permanently.

This was a silly book. I'm surprised I read it to the end. The plot was shallow and most of the characters even more so. I kept getting to a point where I thought a plot corner had been turned and there was only 50 or so pages to go, and I'd continue. Then I'd read another 50 pages and there was STILL another 50 pages to go. I consider this book to have been a waste of reading time. I wasted mine so you dont have to.

Katie has left Hollywood with her husband and moved to Florida. Then her husband leaves her, she is almost broke, and a friend asks her to return to Hollywood to clear the friend's daughter of murder. Katie teams up with a retired cop friend to take on the case.

The book was ok, but it wasn't really about Hollywood or the movies, so I thought the title and description were cheating. There just seemed to be too much going on in Katie's life and the investigation to ring true for me

A frantic phone call brought Katie back to Hollywood. Her friend Helen had called asking Katie to help her. Helen’s daughter, former child /Ingénue actress, Lane Allison, had been arrested for murder. Katie had been a production assistant in the movie business before marrying an LA policeman. Together they started a detective business with Katie doing most of the paperwork. Helen trusted that some of her husband’s detective qualities had rubbed off on Katie, and that she could help save Lanie. Katie wasn’t sure what she could do, but when a friend asks for help, you do what you can. When I started reading this novel, I was reminded of the old (Very Old) radio program “Sam Spade” –the first person narrative; short clipped sentences… a good mystery.
