An EMP apocalyptic thriller in the enduring style of Frank Peretti.
Dante Lupinetti is a compelling voice in Christian speculative fiction, crafting stories that explore faith, redemption, and the enduring power of grace in worlds shaped by divine transformation. His work brings readers into vivid, spiritually charged landscapes where the presence of the Messiah reshapes not only the world but also the human heart. Blending high-stakes suspense with deep theological insight, Lupinetti writes narratives that confront darkness with hope, weaving together themes of brokenness, restoration, and sacrificial love. His characters face impossible choices that test their faith, revealing the cost and the beauty of true discipleship. Driven by a passion to illuminate the boundless mercy of Yeshua and the redemptive power available to even the most forgotten souls, Dante Lupinetti creates stories that are both thrilling and spiritually transformative.
The president is looking out the Oval Office windows when suddenly Marine One explodes in a microwave EMP blast that fries every circuit board in the Beltway and nearly kills POTUS.
Just another day in the life of Zeke Jackson, the former Capitol cop who’s been blessed by God with the ability to read souls and ferret out demons. And there are a lot of demons in DC.
True story time. I was reading this in bed late at night—specifically, one of the scenes where a demon manifests—when suddenly I looked up and there was this big, old, nasty cricket staring at me from two inches away. I tell you I LEVITATED out of my bed so fast I nearly crashed through my bedroom ceiling. It really looked like a big, ugly demon was fixing me with a hypnotic stare.
Seriously, this book is a lean, mean thrill-and-chill ride with outstanding pacing as our intrepid hero goes about demon-infested Washington interrogating the most usual of suspects—politicians—in an effort to solve the mystery and save the president’s bacon yet again.
There’s a charming romantic subplot involving Zeke’s love interest, Special Agent Abby Sorensen, as well as some fascinating theological discussions, yet despite these detours the story’s pace never suffers nor loses suspense. And yes, there are some creepy, CREEPY demon manifestations.
If I had one critique, occasionally the writing can be flat in places. A typical chapter heading might read, “Interviewing Suspects, Day Three.” How about “The man with a SNAKE where his head should be”? A little more purple in the prose would not hurt here and there.
That said, I really loved this thriller. If you are demon-phobic like me, it will certainly scare the bejesus out of you at times—with or without crickets!
This is the third book in Lupinetti’s Soul Readers Series. While I would suggest you read the first two books in the series before reading Book Three: Hearing Enabled, Lupinetti quickly draws you into the storyline and conflicts of the third book. You may have a bit of trouble recognizing and understanding the skills and resources of each of the characters before you, but soon that challenge will fade away.
I keep asking myself how Lupinetti knows so many details of life around Washington, DC.? It’s those details that drew me in to the story. This is a story on several levels, and it takes some time to figure out just what is happening. And just when you think you have figured out the next shoe to drop, the story offers a strange twist.
The conflict is as old as time itself–good versus evil. The setting and story line are all based on that old story. While some of the story is supernatural in its telling, the plot unfolds on a very mortal and believable plane.
I have read all three books now, and I have enjoyed them all. Just enough “cops and robbers”, spies and villains, and strange characters and conversations to keep me interested. Lupinetti is a talented writer and has crafted another readable and suspenseful book. Give it a read.
In Book 3, Hearing Enabled, terrorists go apocalyptic with an Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) in their attempts to take down the White House and president. The Speaker threatens Zeke with imprisonmet if his interviewing techniques cross the line. Are Zeke and Abby equally yoked? Does a sexual assult accusation against Zeke cause Abby to think twice? How does this slow-burn romance finally play out?
A supernatural EMP apocalyptic thriller in the enduring style of Frank Peretti.
This entire series has been given the Spirit-Filled Christian Fiction Award by Radiqx Press! It's the Christian Fiction Seal of Approval.
Once again, Lupinetti has created a high action, suspense-filled and entertaining story while weaving a powerful message throughout. I’m not usually one for political thrillers, but this one is different. It truly is a battle between Good and Evil! A few shocking scenes, but they enhance the story and add realism. Well done! Where’s book four?
This is Mr. Lupinetti's best of the series. Zeke Johnson has a God given gift to read your soul, and by doing so, he protects the President from evil. In this book he learned to expel demons, in an effort to clean the swamp. Zeke, your gift is needed now! Please report for duty ASAP.
I loved reading this story. As a woman, I liked reading a love story from a guy’s perspective. It was sweet. I also enjoyed the spiritual aspect along with the action. Very well written.
