I came away from this book completely blown away by the impressive personages of Alexander Bell and Mabel Hubbard. They were both incredible people.
I do think a biographical novel could be written with a lot more insight into their individual personalities, feelings, and relationship. Their story begs to be told with a lot more introspection and imagination.
I do love how the author wove the characters' own words into the story, but I would have liked a bibliography at the end that shows the primary source documents. She mentions letters and diaries but nothing specific.
Focuses on the adversity these two overcame more than the romance. So amazing what people can overcome despite society’s labels of “impossible “ or “too difficult.” I love to hear about those who don’t cry about how unfair everything is & try to force everyone else to accept that person’s view of “fair”, but instead, through hard work & determination & a positive mindset, overcome impossible odds.
Very much enjoyed reading of how impossible everyone told Bell a telephone was & how he ignored them & went on to invent it!
Also very much enjoyed reading of his wife, all the adversities she had to overcome & yet triumphed magnificently. This part really hit home as my uncle is deaf, & my grandma realized when he was born he would have a much harder time trying to force everyone else to use sign language so she taught him to read lips. He has also overcome many, many obstacles in his life & accomplished much.
An excellent biography of Alexander Graham Bell and his wife Mabel Hubbard. I really enjoyed this biography and after I was done I felt a greater respect for Mr. and Mrs. Belle. I realized that I didn't know everything he had invented. He was an amazing man. His wife was deaf and that had a great part in his work for the hearing impaired. An intimate look at his genius, family life, work and his remarkable wife that had so much to do with his success. This book is based upon the official records and memories of the Bell children and friends. Some of the correspondence never made available to a biographer before. It even tells about his work with Helen Keller and his meeting with her when she was a small child and had no hope. A must read!!!!
I toured the Bell estate in Florida and picked up this book thinking I already knew a lot, but didn't know Mrs.Bell was deaf, brilliant, and instrumental in Mr. Bell’s inventions.
My mom gave me an old copy of this book. It was an insightful biography of Alexander Graham Bell and his wife. A must-read for anyone who enjoys history and inventions!

Great book about 2 super interesting people! It was a little old fashioned; written in 1962, but so well done. I wish I could have met either or both of them!
