Dr. Perricone’s FOREVER YOUNG makes an extraordinary by following a program designed to decrease wrinkles and dramatically improve the appearance of the skin, the reader is also guaranteed more energy, less fat and an improved mood. The core of Dr. Perricone’s appeal is his scientific grounding and authority. In a field notorious for the triumph of style over substance, Dr. Perricone is at the cutting edge of new science which is scientifically proven to work. At the core of the new book is an exciting new science on Nutrigenomics and gene expression. With his innovative vision, Dr. Perricone has applied the new science to ease wrinkles, make the skin supple, smooth and glowing. His prescriptive program will shave years off the reader's appearance and will give the reader more energy.
The diet and recipes are great- really yummy and satisfying and you will see an almost instant change in your skin. You feel as though you're being quite indulgent allowing yourself to eat salmon, cheese, wine and chocolate, but won't feel unhealthy for it. Every meal has lot of protein which means you will feel fuller between meals, have more energy and won't crave unhealthy or starchy food.
The book itself is very informative, however it would be great to have a clearly laid out week's plan of meals rather then having to pick and choose from the information provided, which doesn't set any clear guidelines. For instance Perricone will have several paragraphs dedicated to a particular vitamin which he recommends having in your diet- however it would be more useful to the reader to have a plan that includes that vitamin rather then having to think- ok I've got to try and include some food in my diet which includes vitamin K2.
Luckily there are lots of different food plans online- have a look on goop and Oprah & through his facebook group page there are links to all of his diet plans, although you may want to refer to this book for detailed recipes.
Out of all of the diets I have tried this is by far the easiest to stick to- I normally try and do the carol vorderman detox, which is healthy and beneficial, although involves initial suffering and will power to get over the initial days without sugar/caffeine etc.
I couldn't put it down. This was the third book I have read by Dr. Perricone.
I have always considered myself a skin care junkie... God gave me one face and I have to live with it so I try my best to take good care of it since I prefer to never go under the knife for esthetic reasons and I don't believe in injecting my face with toxins... not that I condemn anyone who does... It is just not for me.
I thought this book would be a lot of repetition of what I have read in the other books but it wasn't. The information about underlying daily inflammation due to aging and environmental reasons really grabbed my attention. I always believed what you eat will greatly effect your health and your skin but this book made me literally sit up and take a closer look at what I eat and how I can modify my eating habit for not only better, radiant skin but greater overall health. It also made me disregard some of the information I was given in the past about saturated fat.
As usual with every diet book it is rather long winded but if they just listed the reccomendations and did not expound excessivly it would be a pamphlet. I read the important parts in an hour.
This book has as much to do with health and longevity as it does with appearance. There is a lot of detail in the first half of the book explaining the science behind the approach recommended in the book, and about the various "superfoods" which are integral to the diet he outlines. I've done extensive reading on anti-cancer and health diets recently and the recommendations all align with those. There's some recipes in the back and detail about good sources of supplements. I like that the recommendations are mostly around whole foods and moderate exercise and not much about taking a bunch of pills. If you're generally interested in health, this book is good.
Dr. Perricone focuses on inflammation on the cellular level as a trigger to aging and disease and recommends an anti-inflammatory diet that includes fruits and veggies that are low on the glycemic index level, plus certain nuts, salmon, and other healthy non-processed foods.
I have not done his detox recently, but thought his inflammation theory was really interesting. In the end, it is yet another nutrition book urging us to eat our veggies and salmon, cut out processed foods, get exercise and live a stress free and healthy lifestyle! Sounds so simple…
I read "Wrinkle Cure" at the library when my first child was 1, so 2002 and I've been committed to Dr P's methods ever since. Each book starts with the same basic principles and then expands and refines. This one deals more with whole body and aging, including bone loss and mental clarity. Re-read in 2016 because sometimes I need a reminder of why eating clean is so important. I wish he'd write another book, it's been 6 years.
This book builds on the other books I've read by Dr. Perricone on the importance of an anti-inflammatory diet. Some new information to add to my health repertoire. Especially helpful was the advise on perimenopause and menopause supplements, diet and exercise. This book isn't for women alone though. There is lots of good advice for both sexes if we want to age well.
Dr. Perricone writes a scientific book on nutrigenomics for skin and health. Much of what he writes underscores what we already know about the care of our cells, bones, muscles, skin, organs if we want to have a healthy life. Considering it is a book for laypeople, he gets a bit carried away with scientific terms and descriptions.
This kind of takes up where Dr. Atkins left off, so I did enjoy it and recommend it to anyone who enjoys improving their health through better nutrition. I will say that I thought perhaps he had a financial interest in some of the products he recommended, but it didn't contradict other information I've gathered to date.
Very good information, using supplementation to help keep the body running efficiently. It is all about keeping the mitochondria happy and using anti-oxidants to help keep the cells normal.
I was in a slump for a few years and recently faced some health challenges so I unearthed my untouched copy of Science of Nutrigenomics and read it cover to cover. With book as a guide and other inspiration, I finally was able to ditch 98% of sugar from my diet. I'm almost at my goal weight (had 12 unwanted lbs.) and with exercise program, Perricone inspired diet-- which I'll run by my cardiologist, I feel most shackles of my bad habits have been broken. I'm finding me again and it's great!!
Stumbled onto this book, not for the skin science, although that was helpful, but what turned out to be good for the skin is good for the body. A lot of information about inflammation and how that damages the body on multiple levels. Lots of fantastic, easy to read information about diet and overall health.
This book makes me want to eat nothing but vegetables and take all the vitamins he sells. Great info, but also wonder if this is just propaganga for his expensive products. Guess you have to buy them to find out.
Yes, I read this book. I'll try anything as long as it does involve needles. :) Unfortunately, this book for me was like reading a medical textbook. Yuck! I'd rather have what to do not so much detail on why.
