My hard-sought book! I read this one a long time ago and forgot the cover and title almost completely. Every time I tried looking by "Far Harbor" I found some other kind of book...it was plumb luck that I was willing to look by that title again on Goodreads.

This is a book set in a world where everyone has a power or talent set up in a pair. The main character is a foster-child and suffers from abuse at the hands of the family. She always breaks things and she doesn't speak much. They always call her "Ugly". Eventually, she finally runs away and tries to live on her own...she finds herself to be very happy with this arrangement. But in a far-off palace, a prince is looking for his other half....

I loved this book because it hits home on feelings we all have experienced: inferiority, uncertainty, and loneliness. It shows that there are answers, that someone is out there for someone else, and there hope.

A true Cinderella story set in the far future. The heroine is an adopted girl who is forced to do all the housework instead of her incompetant adopted family. She is made to feel ugly; in fact, her name is Ugly. Yet on the other side of the globe lives a prince who longs to be united with her He and his whole kingdom search valiantly or her. Ugly even has a fairy godmother of sorts, the Crystal Goddess. Instead of mice to help them, she and Prince have cats. A fun story with palace intrigue and without the usual techno-babble this genre is famous for.
