A Mechanic's Handbook To The God Of The Bible: Why God Just Makes Sense

Rate this book
Discover the God of the Bible and find meaning in life with Michael O. Borthwick's 'A Mechanic's Handbook to the God of the Bible.' A compelling guide to the complexities of God, making Biblical truths understandable through the use of scripture, personal testimony & analogies. If you are a believer or a non-believer this book has something for you. There are thought-provoking insights, compelling arguments using biblical evidence for the seeker of truth, practical tips to navigate life's challenges, and teachings on God's forgiveness, purpose and peace for life. The author takes his love of mechanics, and applies it to the way he wrote his book. Mechanical thought is systematically laid out in design and function, as is God's word is systematically laid out in the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. 'A Mechanic's Handbook to the God of the Bible' gives a clear view that God's plan's are not haphazard, but are purposefully being fulfilled - also addressing the consequences for those who accept God's plan for salvation and those who don't. As the Bible doesn't edit out the failures of it saints, the author didn't edit out his failures, making the book relatable for all those who have missed the mark. His journey is anything but boring, and the subject matter covers not only who God is and His love for us, but covers a wide spectrum of personal experiences, struggles and reflections, which may be a comfort for those navigating similar trials. As the Bible doesn't edit out the failures of its saints, I didn't edit out my failures either. For I want all people, especially the broken ones, to be able to identify with some part of my story and to see that God's love is for everyone who will receive it. I also hope that I have shown from the Bible who God and Jesus Christ are, and in the process, answered some of the questions or concerns people have discussed with me over the years.

In this book, Michael Borthwick tells his story of Biblical discovery. He starts off with his life as a teenager who began to feel little spiritual tugs on his life. However, it wasn’t until a near-death experience that he began to think more about the afterlife. He began to realize that he needed God to fill a hole in his life. A hole of hopelessness. He realized that his life up until that point had been hopeless. He says, “I didn’t have to hope for anything, for everything I thought was going to happen was happening.” After the accident, the questions he had before about life took on a new meaning. When he started listening to the answers to those questions, is when he changed his outlook on God.
A big part of his coming to Christ was his girlfriend, who had become Saved months before. She helped him realize that he needed Christ in his life. The accidents that happened to him, his brother’s death in an accident, and his questioning his mortality worked on him. He asked Jesus to Save him. Since then, he has a better peace about life.
In the rest of the book, Michael goes over Biblical truths such as God’s Sovereignty, Sin, the Trinity, the Incarnation, and many others sprinkled with experiences from his life. The way he writes and shows the inner workings of Biblical truth sprinkled with Bible verses was very illuminating. You can genuinely feel the truth behind what he’s saying.
It’s a very personally involved book that showcases his discovery. I found the book very engaging and informative, and I believe a lot of people can benefit from this book. This book is truly for everyone: Religious or non-religious. God-curious or not. In fact, I believe it would be more beneficial to non-religious than to religious people. If you know someone who has questions about God, their mortality, and the afterlife… consider getting them this book.
