Book three in the Ra’s Chosen series.Denger is a hunter, spending his nights on the streets of Phoenix fighting the undead who threaten unknowing humans. It’s in his blood. It’s what he knows. But a new knowledge has taken hold. Like other warriors before him, he must hunt for a different kind of prey altogether. His mate. Once he finds her, nothing will keep him from claiming what is his. Nothing but her, that is.After the death of her husband three years ago, Nyx is content to spend her evenings at home, wrapped up in the vampire romance novels she loves. But when she collides, literally, with a man who could have stepped out of the pages of one of her books, she begins to think living her love life through romantic tales may not be the way to go. But as with any good story, there’s a plot twist. Once she discovers Denger’s true nature, she must decide if she can risk her heart and live a life where truth is stranger than fiction.
Marisa Chenery was always a lover of books, but after reading her first historical romance novel she found herself hooked. Having inherited a love for the written word, she soon started writing her own novels.
She writes young adult and romance books.
Marisa lives in Ontario, Canada, with her husband, four children, four grandchildren (she's a young grandma at fifty), and five rabbits.
He’s not the type of man to idly wait for what he wants; he goes after it. She’s not the type of woman who makes decisions lightly; when she makes up her mind she goes all the way. Together, they have to the potential for an eternal love most people only dream about.
Denger is one of Ra’s Chosen. An immortal warrior who protects humanity from the evil god Apep’s undead. He loves his job, lives for the kill. But sometimes being an immortal makes for a lonely life. Sure, he has his fellow warriors, six in all. And they share a home—which is actually a warehouse made into an impenetrable fortress—but he wants what two of his brothers in arms, have: a mate. Ra has decreed all six will find a perfect woman to share their immortal life with. Well Denger isn’t about to sit back and wait for her to fall in his lap. He’s ready to hunt her down, so to speak.
Nyx has spent three years trying to get over the death of her husband. Yet, despite the elapsed time, she just isn’t ready to move on. Or so she thought. When she bounces off the front of what feels like a brick wall and comes face to face with the most gorgeous man she’s ever laid eyes on, she wonders if her celibacy isn’t about to end. Despite her mourning, what woman could resist a six and a half foot tall man of solid muscle, waist-length black hair, and mesmerizing gold eyes?
This is book three out of Ms. Chenery’s Ra’s Chosen series, and just like the others, she doesn’t disappoint. I have loved getting to know each of her six warriors and their mates thus far. While the ultimate goal of each book is the same—the warrior finding his woman and convincing her that she’s been chosen to be his immortal mate—she’s gone about the plot differently for each book, making each equally enthralling. The author has continues to show expertise in her use of grammar, punctuation, and point of view. There were a few editing errors—a word used twice in a row, a word missing in a few places, but nothing that really detracts from the story itself. I think Ms. Chenery did a better job with character dialect in this story than the previous two and once again managed to incorporate some mind-blowing sex.
If you’ve made it through books one and two, don’t stop now. Marisa Chenery has once again penned an enticing tale with her gorgeous warriors and their saucy women. Book three is a tale you won’t regret diving in to.
Ok, so a band of friends as tight as brothers out to save the world from evil has been done before. That being said, this was an extremely good version of the brotherhood, with a twist. The twist is (and this is not a spoiler – its revealed on the first page) is that the brotherhood was chosen by the Egyptian Sun God Ra to save the world from evil. Ra's Chosen mate for life, and Ra has stated that all of his Chosen will find their mate … eventually.
Denger decides to go hunt his mate, and woo her. Despite being a hunter of the undead, Denger pursues Nyx gently. He is sensitive about her need to ease into a new relationship after her husband's death. For a hunter Denger is surprisingly sensitive to Nyx's needs. Unfortunately, his plans to go slowly and woo her end up almost backfiring. She discovers Denger's true nature, and he almost loses her.
The book switches from Denger's point of view to Nyx's sometimes in the same chapter. Marissa Chenery handles this shift skillfully and smoothly without any of the abruptness that frequently plagues changes in point of view.
This book is the third in the series, but I wasn't at a disadvantage at having not read the other books. The characters from the previous stories are brought in, and just enough of their backstory is explained so that the important features of their stories are clear to new readers, without giving away too much of their books, nor leaving out information, we need to understand what's going on.
I enjoyed Longed For Hunger. I'm going to read the rest of the books in this series, and you should too.
The storyline flowed very well and the relationship didn't jump right into it like the first two novels did. I love how Denger wanted to do things right, - take things slow, get to know his mate and have her get to know him - before telling Nyx about who and what he was. It was refreshing and seemed more realistic than the first two books with Mehen and Set.
My main issue - which is pretty dumb, but bothered me none the less - was Nyx's name. I feel it didn't really fit with her character. It's not a very common name and they didn't go into detail on her origins -- we know she has a mom and brother, but that's pretty much it. Her name just made her sound Egyptian, but I don't believe she is. I feel like I'm making too big of a deal about it, but that just shows how much it bothered me.
I give this book 4.5 stars overall.
Note: I originally gave the first book, Soul Hunger, 5 stars. However after re-reading it, I think I gave it that 5th star because it was a new sees and I was excited to read a different point-of-view on vampires. So so far, I give the first three books of Ra's Chosen a solid 4.5.
I found it very funny that Denger sought out his mate when so many other stories are about trying to avoid just that; it was unique. Longed-for Hunger is creative and will leave you wanting more.
Denger and Nyx share a burning desire for one another that scorches the pages with their wonderfully erotic love scenes. Nyx was quite cute with her clumsiness around Denger. I think it helped bring about the protectiveness in him. Their relationship progression was a little different because of Nyx’s background, but Denger’s patience paid off in the end.
All the talk about the other mates and how they met just had me longing to read their stories too. Most of the secondary characters have had their own stories, but are a hoot and really add to Long-for Hunger. This story can stand alone, but I look forward to reading the previous tales as well. Marisa Chenery did a great job of wrapping up this story and setting the tone for the next storyline. I would recommend this to all paranormal romance fans.
Longed-For Hunger, being the third story to the Ra's Chosen Series, is the story of Denger meeting his mate Nyx. Nyx is a 30 year old widow who lost her husband to cancer 3 years ago. Denger doesnt want to wait like Mehen (Soul Hunger) or Set (Mate Hunger) for his mate to fall into his lap. He has gone out into the streets of Pheonix to search for her since he longs to have what Mehen and Set have with their mates. He litterally bumps into Nyx in the street and follows her to her nearby job at a book store. He now has to be patient with her since she is still reluctant to go out into the dating world again after the passing of her husband. Denger, however, wanting to do things right does everything he can to woo her. Nyx one day witnessess him kill an undead and is then scared of what he is and he has to quickly find a way for her to trust him again. As expected from Marisa Chenery this book is great! The details and explicit sex scenes help creat the perfect senario in the readers mind.
Third novella in the Ra Chosen series--reads like a paranormal fairy tale in some respects. Ra has decreed that the six Chosen warriors must now find their mates after being alone for thousands of years. Each novella tells the story of their discovery. None of the matings have been without considerable difficulties. This story seems to go along smoothly for a while, but once again failure to communicate brings the emerging relationship to a stand-still. Cute stories--lots of hot loving and some wonderful caring moments. The interaction in the "family" is really interesting and sometimes very witty.
