Rate this book
It had taken Jake Remington seven years to propose to Jenna Lockhart, but who was counting? Theirs had been puppy love when they were kids, pure and sweet. But tragedy had shattered their perfection. Now Jake was all man and determined to have his wedding night with Jenna.

Except Jenna was nobody's fool. Jake wanted something only she could give him. And while it required rock-solid willpower to ignore Jake's masculine appeal and million-dollar courtship, it was darn near impossible to deny his offer of marriage. Dear Readers,

The love stories in my family have always been fodder for romance novels.

My maternal grandmother and grandfather simultaneously ran a business together and raised four daughters, long before it was an accepted thing to do.  Grandpa O’Dell ran the gas station and the barber shop; Grandma O’Dell managed the grocery and cooked for customers.  They were true partners and madly in love and parted, tragically, way too soon when he succumbed to cancer when he was in his early fifties.  Grandma grieved deeply but eventually picked herself up, started a new career as a cafeteria chef, and eventually found deep romantic love and happiness again, in the form of a second marriage.

Booooorrriing. "Misunderstanding" cleared up in first chapter, absolutely no angst. Writing is good at least.

Boring

Total snooze fest. H has less backbone than the h. I did not like even one character in this story. Alex wouldn't be able to sit down for a week if she dared to try to refuse anything I told her to do. H was a bad boyfriend, father, husband, ex-husband, and son. Who would even want him? ****Spoiler alert**** H actually proposed to his ex-wife while engaged to the h. I can't even....

I was disappointed. The blurb ticked a lot of boxes for me, a second chance, the H marrying OW and having a child and OW still around causing problems. But there were many things wrong with this that I can't even begin to discuss them, from holes in the logic about how they get together again to the somewhat irritating hang up about making the H's child less of a tomboy and into a dress. The premise on which this plot was based was flimsy at best.

Too many authors set up the scenario where we see it totally the h's way and then try to make the H redeemable by trying to spread the blame. Most aren't able to pull it off because of lame logic and this was no different. The only thing that rang true for me was the last 10% of the book where it focused on their relationship and on its dynamics.
