Twelve bodies, no motive, the hunt is on. A lorry full of illegal Chinese immigrants arrives in Hull. Twenty four hours later their bodies are discovered close to the M62 motorway. Two young men man and a girl are missing, and their lives are at risk. Supported by the Serious and Organised Crime Agency, Caton must travel to China to pick up the trail. But he knows that the solution is closer to home in Manchester's Chinatown...and time is running out.
Love this series but this is dry, like Sahara dry. I can only imagine the research hours put into this due to location of the investigation and subject matter and did eventually start investing in the characters but this was hard work. The ending was appropriate and believable but this is in no way my favourite in the series so far (only the third in) but has not put me off pursuing the rest, just taking a break to read Creatures of Appetite but I'll be back! Interested to see what happens with Tom and Kate now Sally has come into the picture.
Thrilling story. It makes you think that our way of living is changing and not for the better.
The story is fast and furious. Makes you glad to be safe and sound in your own home. . It can be so dangerous out there. Thank goodness we have police like Tom and his team to keep us safe.
This is my third Tom Caton novel but I'm afraid it will be my last. The obsession with describing what everyone is wearing feels like padding and the mistakes in the text drive me mad. Doesn't anybody proofread this stuff. This story also (like so many that majorly move location half way through) adds a lot more padding and to me isn't very successful. Sorry Bill but this is it for me
Another very good at in the DCI Cat on series. Lots of strong characters and plenty of twists in the story line. A really good series so far and I am looking forward to reading the rest.
As usual a very gripping read from Bill. The deep description of events puts you in the situation or room as a spectator. I would definitely recommend.
Not quite as good as the first two in the series. A complicated plot and a disappointing (although probably realistic) ending. It hasn't put me off wanting to read the rest in the series - but not yet, I need a rest from Detective Caton.
There was too much of everything in this book: too many characters, too many points of view, too many locations, etc. I have read a few in the series already (although not in order) and liked this one the least. I still plan on reading the entire series.
Complex and believable story, well written and characters are getting more fully developed as the series goes on. But if a wobble here in the beginning with loads of info that seems a bit winded and it does help understand the plot as the novel moves on.
