Pokémon Trainers Pearl and Diamond are starstruck! Their lifelong dream is to floor an audience with their Pokémon comedy act. So how do they wind up as bodyguards to a pampered little rich girl on a quest to reach the peak of Mt. Coronet...?!
Come along and join the thrills and laughs as Pokémon Adventures continues!
Diamond and Pearl are an aspiring comic act. After winning a consolation prize, there is a mix-up worthy of a Fred Astaire movie and they find themselves accompanying a wealthy heiress on her journey to the peak of Mt. Coronet. She is learning about Pokemon and begins a traditional family journey of self-discovery.
The characters are one note Diamond is the dumb, hungry one, while Pearl is the quick witted, charming one and Lady is basically naive and rich but no one is mean spirited. Well, maybe Pearl is. The art is simple and undemanding. It looks like it was designed to be churned out quickly and there are many poor running gags that aren't worthy of repeating here.
In short, it's a book that children will enjoy, as mine did, but I wouldn't recommend it to their elder siblings or parents unless they are just Pokemon obsessed. And probably not then either.
I really like this book because the Diamond and Pearl pokemon games were the first ones I ever played in my youth (I'm not that old). This story is pretty funny about 2 guys named Dia (Short for Diamond) and Pearl. They are the winners of a small compensation prize for a comedy show and receive a letter for it. At the same time, a girl whose name is not yet revealed in this book for some reason is going on a trip to a mountain to get a special stone to make her family stone out of. But somehow the letters for her bodyguards get accidentally switched with the letters for the comedy prize. So Diamond and Pearl go on thinking the girl is their tour guide while she thinks the 2 idiots are her bodyguards. Confusing but it is so funny and this book is great.
Also these names in the Pokemon Adventures series are so goofy

The seventh chapter of Pokémon adventures definitely opened with a much more humorous and laidback vibe than the previous six chapters had. It was an interesting break from the previous volumes, and I’m excited to see what’s in store next for Diamond, Pearl, and “Lady”. Disclaimer: The Sinnoh region has always been the Pokémon region closest to my heart, so I may be a bit biased while reading this series. I ended up liking the Hoenn storyline a lot though, which I didn’t expect because that’s one of my least favourite regions.
This is the only Pokemon Adventures series that I couldn't get into. Gen 4 my second least favorite to begin with, but these characters just seemed so much more of a joke than the ones from Adventures, Gold and Silver, Ruby and Sapphire, etc. I couldn't continue this iteration of the series. I moved on to Unova.
Honestly I wish that I didn’t start the Pokémon DP manga series before Red Adventures or Gold and Silver or Ruby and Sapphire :( I’ve read a ton of reviews and talked to several others who have read the mangas and most of them have said that Diamond and Pearl is their least favorite out of all the arcs and even though I haven’t read the other books in the manga series but I am one of the many people who didn’t enjoy this book.
That’s really disappointing to me because the DP anime and the game Pokémon Platinum are in my list of all time favorites. Pokémon Crystal and Pokémon Platinum were the first two Pokémon games that I have ever played. (Crystal was the first game I ever played but shortly after I played Platinum) The sinnoh and Johto regions hold a special place in my heart. The DP arc was the first series of the Pokémon anime that I ever watched so Sinnoh is close to home for me. I loved the crap out of the games and the anime so the fact that I didn’t enjoy the DP manga upsets me greatly. Don’t get me wrong I didn’t hate this book and there are things I liked about it but the things I didn’t like outweigh the good hence the 2.9 star rating.
What I liked: -The Characters: I liked how they portrayed mars in the first book of the manga. In fact the characters weren’t an issue for me at all. I definitely like the way that the characters I know and love from the Sinnoh are portrayed. The idea of Barry (pearl) and Lucus (dia) being a comedy duo is actually unique. I even like the way Dawn (Platinum) is portrayed. The characters are actually one of the things I liked about this manga. I don’t see anything wrong with the characters themselves.
-The art style: Even though I haven’t read the other mangas I’ve seen the art style and I have to say that I love how they kept the art style from the other series. I love the art style. Platinum is gorgeous and Pearl and Dia look great. All the characters look great. The art style is one of the saving graces that made me not give this book a 2 star rating. I’ve always loved the art style.
-The Detail and closer look at the world of Pokémon: This is an aspect that’s in all of the Pokémon Mangas and it’s why the people who’ve read this series love it. It adds some more detail. It feels like the Pokémon themselves have more of a personality and the characters in the games have more of a backstory and they’re all unique in their own way. Each of the characters have a unique goal that is unique to them as a character. The mangas fill in the blanks that the games do not which is an spect about this series that I love.
What I didn’t like -The Plot itself: The plot is very predictable. The plot just dragged. Nothing interesting happened. It’s not engaging. Even though I love the characters the plot just dragged.
-The Pacing: The pacing is the worst thing about this book. I wasn’t engaged and I was bored. I had to force myself to pick the book back up again the keep going and I feel like parts of it are rushed, and other parts are just so slow.... The battles are a big example of this. The battles are not engaging and they’re very rushed.
The rating: 2.9/5 Stars I know I had more things I liked than the things I didn’t like but the two things I didn’t like about the book are two big important factors that either make me enjoy a book or not. This arc in the manga didn’t grab my attention. Pokémon Adventures Red and Blue, Silver and Gold, and Ruby and Sapphire look like they have more interesting plots than the DP arcs which is very unfortunate because I love Sinnoh but this book just didn’t meet my expectations.
Ooh, I actually played Diamond, so a lot of this series was familiar to me. That made it feel nostalgic right away, even though I didn't really bond with the characters, Diamond, Pearl, and Lady at first.
So, filthy rich Lady is heading off on a journey to Mt. Coronet to find a
Hi everyone! It's Ariel here, and today I’m super excited to talk about a cool book called "Pokémon Adventures Diamond and Pearl: Platinum Volume 1".
This book is a manga, which means it reads from right to left, just like in Japan. All your favorite Pokémon game characters come to life in this action-packed story!
In this volume, we follow the adventures of the main characters as they go on exciting journeys with their Pokémon. There are lots of battles, new Pokémon to discover, and challenges to overcome. The characters are really brave and always ready for an adventure, just like in the Pokémon games.
One of the things I loved about this book is how it captures the excitement and fun of playing the Pokémon games. The illustrations are amazing and really bring the story to life. It feels like the Pokémon are jumping right out of the pages!
My favorite part was when the characters had their first big Pokémon battle. It was so intense and thrilling! If you’re a fan of Pokémon, you’ll definitely enjoy this book. It’s full of action, adventure, and all the Pokémon you love.
"Pokémon Adventures Diamond and Pearl: Platinum Volume 1" is a must-read for any Pokémon fan. I can’t wait to read the next volume to see what happens next!
My brother's love Pokemon, and picked this us from the library. So I decided to try it, even though I really have no interest in Pokemon stuff, except the Platinum Nintendo DS game. It's just plain stupid and sickening. A bunch of baloney. I stopped reading after page 107, at the beginning chapter five. Who could love a dumb manga series like this?! I was so tired of Pearl... Seriously... no need to punch Diamond. This scene similarly appeared so many times!!!!! *screams* (Pearl)"Now act stupid so I can hit you!" (Diamond) "What?!" (Pearl)"And put down that snack!" (Diamond)"Huh?" *smack* This book was a joke and I just couldn't finish it. I read one other Pokemon book before and I enjoyed it way more than this one. This was probably the last time I'll ever try a Pokemon book.... at least for now. I'm just disappointed that this book wasn't as good as the DS game. Not recommended.
Ig I'm just writing this since it was on my mind since I was reminded; also, this is the third time I wrote about it (other two times I deleted), and I was bored to the point of looking at AMC8 questions earlier this week lol. Re: manga - I tried reading, not engaging compared to game.
This was a very average volume of the Pokemon Adventures Manga but still manages to make this take of the Pokemon world it’s own.
However I really dislike the forced comedy duo of Dia and Pearl. It’s clearly going for an Abbot and Costello vibe that probably worked in Japanese but I’m not sure how well that’s translated. And Pearl is easily the most annoying character in the volume so spending all this time on something like that is just aggravating at times.
I’m looking forward to seeing how this arc unfolds over the next ten volumes but I don’t know how quickly I’d be getting through them in the future.
I learned, while reading bedtime stories to my children, that the best children's literature is able to entertain the adult as well. Winnie the Pooh has always been my go-to example.
I used to watch Pokemon cartoons while exercising, so it was natural to buy the manga. This is my first foray into reading one of the series. Ash is missing but Lady Berlitz is the spitting image of Dawn from the cartoons. Her companions are Diamond and Pearl, who connected to her by mistake.
Volume 1 was enjoyable -- a nice mixture of adventure and humor. The art is agreeable, but not outstanding.
Found a copy of this for cheap at goodwill. Thought I should pick it up to make my inner child happy. And make my inner child happy it sure did! I thought this was great!
Who was the best character though you’re probably wondering. Well it was obviously the same answer as the best Pokémon ever: Turtwig. I love turtwig so much <3
Almost done the Diamond/Pearl/Platinum arc (on Volume 11 out of the 11 volumes), and this is the worst of the Pokemon Adventures sagas so far (I've read RBY/GSC/RSE so far). The characters have the least surprises and strike me as the least interesting and skilled compared to people like Ruby/Emerald/Red/etc. Its a huge disappointment.
The start of another generation! It's Sinnoh and the new protagonists are introduced. Diamond and Pearl are way too chatty. This volume has a lot more dialogue than previous ones. And it's mostly the two of them performing a comedy duo act.
I'll continue reading, but these characters have yet to pull me into the story.
This is such a great start for a new story. Omg Diamond is just the most adorable character in this whole series. He is so precious. Omg. I like pearl too but diamond is definitely my favorite so far. I’m not so shore about how I feel about Lady yet. She might grow on me like Ruby did.
The pacing at the start seems a bit off. They very quickly managed to go through a lot, including the first gym battle. The characters seem a bit rough. The "double act" and lame puns are not impressive nor funny.
Honestly I really love this so far! It has really pretty art, and I love 'Lady's' personality and how she looks like Dawn lol. I don't know why it has so many bad reviews, it's quite good! Give it a try :D
This one wasn't my favorite. I don't care too much for the main character, but I'm sure she'll learn and grow into a character I do like. Plus, it's a Pokemon story, so it was still good.
