Susan Lewis is the bestselling author of over forty books across the genres of family drama, thriller, suspense and crime. She is also the author of Just One More Day and One Day at a Time, the moving memoirs of her childhood in Bristol during the 1960s. Following periods of living in Los Angeles and the South of France, she currently lives in Gloucestershire with her husband James, stepsons Michael and Luke, and mischievous dogs Coco and Lulu.
I thought this would be a simple and predictable read....it turned out to be anything but that! The story kind of played out like a soap opera as time went on. There were a few parts that I found dragged on a little bit long and could have been edited out. Corrie is definitely a very likeable character and quite independent, despite growing up rather sheltered and close to her mother. She tries to break into the TV world, but at first it seems no one is interested....until Luke shows up. Luke, Annelise and Corrie make quite the dynamic team in the TV studios.
However, Corrie is keeping a secret from Annelise, for good reasons and does what she can to look out for the vulnerable young woman. But Annelise keeps harming herself and is so attached to Luke, who may seem charming to most has some underlining issues and harmful streak underneath. There were a number of violence and intensity, that I wasn't expecting, throughout the book. Definitely a lot of shocking moments throughout, especially when we find out Luke's background and the person manipulating everything and everyone. You really come to kind of sympathize with Annelise and maybe a tiny bit for Luke, although nothing can really justify his horrific and degrading actions! Plus you keep rooting for Corrie to find happiness, family and love despite everything bad going on.
One thing I would have liked was the final punishment for the devious manipulator should have been much more severe and throat cutting. After all, everyone suffered for a long time for that person's actions.
This book will definitely keep you hooked and eager to devour 600+ pages. But do beware, there are a number of violence scenes and some very unsettling moments.
WOW - this was totally unexpected, I started reading this book as a stop gap until another book I was waiting for arrived - however that book is still waiting to be read as I could not put this one down/ When I started reading it I thought it was going to be a book following the character, Corrie, in a journey finding her father and getting to know her new family after her mother died - how wrong was I. This book is not for anyone who doesn't like graphic violence etc. but as those are the sort of books I normally read and this one was going to be a break from the norm I was hooked - didn't get much sleep as I was so keen to get more of the story to unravel.
My one and only criticism of the book is ****************SPOILER****************** Octavia, should have been punished much much more than she did for her part in the entire story, what a nasty evil horrible woman, I wanted to kill her myself and it still upsets me to think about her doing that to her daughter.
This book exceeded my expectations. It is very intense and I enjoyed every page of it. At some points, I thought it was very disturbing and made me quite uncomfortable. However, I loved how everything turned out to be.
I got this book randomly when I was fourteen years old and I am so glad I waited, unintentionally, until I was 21 to read it. The 600+ pages made me avoid it all costs when I was younger and that turned out really well for me, because it is most definitely not suitable for younger readers.
A page turner but disturbing and not for the faint hearted. I found this to be a weird and convoluted story. I get that thrillers are meant to keep you guessing and it did that but I felt it was too long and worryingly disturbing (and I like a dark twisted story line). I was intrigued enough to keep turning the page but was glad when it was over. I've read so many of her books and loved them but this has put me off. I have never given less than a 3 star rating before but I just can't say I enjoyed it- more endured it to be honest.

I've been a fan of Susan Lewis for a while now and this, like all of her other books doesn't disappoint! Even though I am not a newbie to Susan Lewis' writing style, she still managed to keep me hooked, entertained and most of all shocked at the twists and turns of the story. One thing Susan Lewis is not ,is a predictable writer . Not many authors can do that for me. If you want romance, passion, a thrill, excitement, tears, laughs ,shocks and an immense , intense ending then this is the book for you.
When Corrie's mum passes away, she finally moved from the quiet village to start her journey in London and meetsher estranged biological father along the way. While she is ambitious and determined to success in the world of TV, there are some people who don't want her to achieve this success...then things get personal. It really picks up pace as the book evolves...
Huge fan of Susan Lewis but really didn't enjoy this book. Parts of it just went on for too long without any sign of where they were going and I found the Corrie / Christo relationship implausible. In fact its the only book in a long time that i skipped chapters and went to the end!
Took a while to get into then the plot became intriguing and you were never quite sure which way it was going to turn out and kept you wanting to find out the conclusion.
Not sure about this book and found myself skipping bits. Some of the characters and scenarios were not believable and behaved in a way no one would behave. There were also grammatical errors and incorrect spellings.
If I could give it a 0 star I would. How can any author write such a terrible book, it was too long, too boring, so ridiculous. I got this at a charity shop who should have burned it
This book had the most unexpected plot that unfolded slowly before you, never allowing you to guess or asume what would happen next for you surely would be wrong and things would take another twist or turn. The bad character in this book was a surprising one that seemed to be a little unrealistic in my opinion and yet it was quite plausible at the same time. This novel took me on a journey i don't regret going on and had me on a rollor coaster of emotions. I never failed to be carried by this book without even trying as it reached me right where it hurt with little effort. A page turner that I would not say is not Susan's best book but definatly one you have got to read and still deserves five stars due to the unique and extrodianry way it is delivered to the reader, never allowing me to put the book down despite my reservations about the leading evil character.
WOW just completely and utterly W.O.W. I can hardly type words, this book.. Susan Lewis certainly knows how to write crazy. This is definitely not for the feint hearted. Without doubt one of the best books i have ever read, all 663 pages of it. I don't want to give anything away, but this needs to be read!! it gets crazier and crazier then believe it or not crazier still, the more you read!! I'm a little gutted it's finished, Corrie is a great character, who you will easily love, even Analise. Cristos is just as perfect/yummy as can be. Luke is a total dick, who you will hate more than any character from a book, then you realise there's another character within, who you will despise even more...
Other than that you should add this to your to-read list
another amazing book by susan Lewis and a harsh reminder as to why she is my favourite author. Although not her best book (because it was a bit long for be) it was definitely up there with them. because of the length (660 pages) I lost concentration a bit in the middle and found myself having to force myself th carry on. and am I glad I did. so many twists and turns. I cried, I actually laughed out loud and gasped in shock whilst reading, not many books have been able to do that. I would give it 5 stars, it's only coz of the length for me is too long. Otherwise 5 stars all the way.
This is a collection of different incidents that the author writes about to portray the fast crude life of trading in the City. At times hilarious, others quite shocking to see the crave for power, status and money. Of course, one also has to say that this was written at the times of the big boom and where the thought of an economic meltdown was nowhere close.
I usually stick to light hearted chick lits but this has really converted me, I couldn't put it down and I had no idea where the story line was going, I love the depth to the characters, this is a book that should be made into a film! loved it
Another amazing book by Susan Lewis, she doesnt always get it right but wow this book is a real "cant put down one "with some amazing twists and turns.
I did not see any literacy talent and felt the author was just trying to shock which she certainly did ! The characters were weak and the plot was spun out to a conclusion that just repulsed me.
