Great quick read in how middle school SHOULD be. It's hard for us to remember all of the changes that a middle school is going through physically and mentally and we don't always have the patience for them. But this is the time they need strong adults the most.

I read this one because I participated in a book study at work. Pretty good read, especially if you are new to middle school. I am not new to it, but I still appreciated the info in here. I am happy our school does a lot of these things, but there was some food for thought for some good changes/improvements to the ways we do things.

Grabbed this off the shelf during our quarantine. Great reminder of the importance of what I do and things I can improve as a school leader.

Not a frightfully exciting read, but there is a lot of information. Most of the information is common sense, but it's nice to have it all in one place for reference. I do like the fact that it is concise so there isn't need to dig through it to find information. Overall, it will be a good reference to hold onto.

Not the most exciting read of all time, but this position–paper, as AMLE refers to it, does offer a thoughtful exposition of the importance of middle level education, its goals and essential attributes and characteristics, in addition to putting forth a compelling call to action.

This We Believe is an important book for educators interested in working toward renovating their middle years schools and programs. More appropriately this book could be described as a framework through which to view a successful program. It explains 16 straight-forward characteristics each must have. This framework doesn't provide examples in practice. Instead it succinctly states the case why well-designed middle years programs are necessary while explaining the required characteristics they must have. This leaves educators to determine how to innovate their own programs according to the needs of their community while meeting the intent of the framework. While not a flashy read, this brief book's simplicity is dense with provocative concepts that will surely spark genuine self-reflection about one's own program.
