Trailer Trash

Rate this book
A fine little place, on a nice, flat piece of land.

The little that Eddie Tramp knew of his grandfather was enough to write on the back of a postage stamp. When his grandfather died and willed his entire estate to him, he didn't know much more about him or the homestead in Mudpuddle Arkansas.

After being dumped by his girlfriend and kicked out of her apartment, Eddie packs up and leaves for the tiny, dustbowl town of Mudpuddle in a beat-up Ford Crown Victoria with big dreams of a what he comes to know as Tramp Manor.

Eddie's dreams are blown out the window when he arrives and finds Tramp Manor is nothing but a dirty, run-down trailer park, with poor, jobless tenants barely able to pay the rent. The notion of selling the land to a wealthy land developer, Oliver Weston, passes through his mind when a secret is his grandfather was murdered.

Eddie soon finds that not everyone is who they appear to be. Someone wants to buy the land from Tramp Manor's new owner as quickly as possible before they're linked to the murder, and before Eddie Tramp discovers why the land is worth millions.

Buying dirt-cheap Kindle books can be kind of like dumpster diving: there's a lot of garbage, but once in a while you'll stumble across a treasure.

TRAILER TRASH by Timothy Boling was an impulse $0.99 purchase several months ago and it wasn't until yesterday that I finally opened the digital file to give the story a chance. It was a pleasant surprise. The short novel was well-written and featured an interesting cast of characters. Boling really brought Tramp Manor, the run-down trailer park that's a nuisance to everyone except those who call it home, to life.

The book wasn't perfect--there are a couple typos and style issues--but the imperfections didn't get in the way of a very good story. When I learned that TRAILER TRASH was one of several short novels Boling wrote while serving time in prison, it made the book even more interesting to me.

I definitely recommend this book and look forward to reading more of Boling's work.
