In this tale that plucks the innermost chords of emotion, jealousy turns to envy then to backstabbing as we observe two friends who have struggled together, hustled together, and endured separate prison terms.
In the hood, a snitch is the worst thing a person can possibly be. Rolling over on your best friend, who has been with you through thick and thin, hungry and full, freedom and state bids--that's "the cruelest lie told in silence." While Jovan experiences the fruits of the hustle during his partner's first stint, Bilal humbly does his time like a true soldier, taking a manslaughter charge for his one true friend. When these two are finally reunited on the streets, a chain of events lands them both behind bars facing multiple charges. Will their friendship survive the broken bond of brotherhood, or will dishonor come before death?
JASON POOLE was born and raised in Washington, DC, and is the proud father of a teenaged son. In 1996, JASON POOLE was incarcerated on a drug violation charge, and served a ten-year illegal sentence, due to an erroneous enhancement. Wooowww! I did not expect the final twist. It took me a minute to get into the book in the beginning. It seemed slow, but later, I saw the relevance of the material included. I appreciated the cleverness of the author in how things were executed and I felt like I got to know the characters well. Good read. I would read another book from this author.
Synopsis-In this book "Larceny" the main character are Jovsn and Balil. They grew up together and are bestfriends. In this book Jovan and Balil go out to kill two other guys that killed there best friend. When Jovan and Balil get caught they go to jail and have to serve many years. Balil lied and blamed everything on Jovan when it was really all Balils idea.
Classification- This book is targeted to teens and adults. All the characters in the book are young adults so its easier for the readers to understand if they are aroung that age group. The plot of this book is the introduction, foreshadowing, conflict, climax, then the solution to the problems that tie up all the loose ends.
Criticsim-This book is good literature. I like how the story makes you feel connected to the characters and yu get to really learn about the characters and compare the to someone you know or yourself. I also like how the book foreshadows sometimes but also leaves you wondering and wanting to read more. Something i dont like about this book is some things dont seem real or like it wouldnt happen. Some of the things in the book seem like they dont belong because they get off topic and have no point of being there. I dont like how unnecessary things take place.
This book was good and interesting especially during the beginning Jovan was an alright dude he did not belong in the drug game though .... As a child he did his homeboy Bilail wrong I don't blame Lial for being though because he wasn't fully there for his brother like he promised. I do wonder what his mother told him before he died. Sonya was gullible asf, should've did an extensive check on the dude she found irresistible. I wish Bilail had a chapter of his own. It was unique how the story would switch from 1st person perspective to 3rd person(s) that's one thing i never seen a writer do and it worked.
