Chad’s entire existence revolves around being a thorn in his stepfather’s side. Now he finally has the money to disappear forever and become someone new. It seems like a bad time to fall in love.

Years ago, Chad had an arrangement of sorts with an extremely powerful man. This man paid for his college while Chad kept him satisfied in secret, protecting his career and reputation. It was a win for everyone. Until the man married Chad’s mother, that is. Then Chad’s life became a nightmare no one can understand. Now Chad lives for revenge. Nothing warms his twisted heart any longer except the thought of being the constant embarrassment for the senator, who pretends to be the perfect family man. Chad won’t stop until he completely escapes. Except, now there’s this other guy…

Journey needs whatever dirt Chad has on his stepfather. His organization wants a senator in their corner they can control. It’s the worst luck imaginable that Chad makes Journey feel something for someone else for the first time in years. All he can do is hope Chad can forgive his betrayal and that he can free them both when it turns out Chad is the only currency the senator cares about. In his organization, not only does the family come first, but there’s also no getting out.

The Fixer is the first book in Charity Parkerson’s Damaged Devils series. These are dark romance stories with crime lords, assassins, and sociopaths who find their hearts. This series is a spin-off from her Kings of the East books. They are best enjoyed when read in order.

i still don't get how Journey got his scars. I'm assuming they were all due to torture but I'm not sure since it was very vague.

Damaged Devils is such an apt title for this series. Chad and Journey are two damaged souls finding each other. Them recognizing who they are for one another is such a beautiful, vulnerable moment.
I liked this dark book, unexpectedly falling in love and saving each other makes for the best stories🖤

*Dare I say that Charity Parkerson has a knack for names, made up or specific to a character's 'journey'.
But I gotta say, in Chad's case my brain kept showing me SNL's Chad via Pete Davidson 😂(luckily I got over it🙃😁)

Read this if you like:
Short reads
A little violence

This was my first time reading Charity and I enjoyed this book. While it's a short read I enjoyed their story.
Im looking forward to seeing how this series develops and if it builds the world more.

Chad just wants to be a thorn in his stepfather's side but just when he has the money to disappear forever and become someone new he falls in love. Years ago Chad had an arrangement with an extremely powerful man who paid for his college while he kept him satisfied in secret. Then the man marries Chad's Mum and his life becomes a nightmare he lives to be an embarrassment to the Senator who pretends to be the perfect family man. Journey needs the dirt that Chad has on his stepfather as his organisation wants the Senator under their control. But Chad makes Journey feel something for someone else and so he just hopes he can forgive his betrayal and that he can free them both when Chad is the only currency will consider. In Journey's organisation family comes first and there is no getting out.

I really enjoyed this story with all of the politics, the underhand plotting, the way that a simple arrangement went so badly for Chad and the way that Journey and Chad fell in love at a time that was not good timing for either of them. I loved the way that Journey's friends/colleagues went to bat to make sure that everyone was safe and the way that even though Seven appeared to be crazy he was sane enough to free people and take some revenge on Chad's behalf. Easy to read, feel and understand there were a lot of emotions in this story. This was an MM story with mature content.

Loved this Journey

This was a solid start to this new series. I liked Chad and Journey a lot, even as I cringed knowing Journey’s train wreck of lies was going to come back to get him.

There was a lot going on here between Chad’s life with Ken and Journey’s job with Archer. I am interested to see how this series develops and the characters we’ve heard about get their stories. Especially Seven. I cannot wait for that little sunshine gremlin to get his story! We also get some more of Hardy and Hale and I love those two so much.

This was another fairly quick and enjoyable read for me. Looking forward to the next.

Chad and Journey

Chad ran into the wrong man while "escorting" trying to get money. The man became obsessed with him. He married Chad's mother and used that to control him. Chad thought he'd found a way out, but his stepfather brought in someone to bring him back.
Journey was that person. He and Chad met, short version, they fell in love and ended up with their HEA.
Great book, loved it... dark, twisted, angst, beyond steamy, even some humor. Am looking forward to the next book.

2.75⭐️

The Fixer is an entertaining enough, quick read, insta-love story. It’s not as dark as I expected, but I’ve learned that tends to be the case; most books marketed as dark romances simply have morally gray MCs and some violence. The story starts strong, but from the blurb and this being a dark romance, I think I expected more from Chad—for him to be integral to his stepfather’s downfall, more the master of his own revenge rather than the damsel getting rescued and having others do it for him. I could understand why he was so afraid of pissing off the Senator too much and why he had to live on such a stressful tightrope, but there is a way Chad could have been included in the ultimate triumph over his stepfather that would have completed what little character arc the story fashioned.

However, the writing is solid enough that I could go with Chad and Journey’s instant fall into love and Chad’s stepfather’s twisted obsession and almost absolute control over Chad even though neither MC is defined as a character much beyond their trauma. Maybe they are introduced in Parkerson’s Kings of the East series and have more of their personality established there. I found Journey’s “coworker”/closet thing to a friend, Seven, intriguing enough to be tempted to continue the series but was sufficiently disappointed in this that I’m on the fence about it. Not a bad read, simply an interesting enough read for my mood at the time which I’m sure others will enjoy more.

Chad and Journey find their way.... read the content warning, for these dark romances.
Chad, 25, a big muscled body, was a sex slave and then had a prosperous porn business.
Journey, black hair, pale gray eyes, is "The Fixer."
We see Chad's young life and sex slave years, and then how he broke free of the evil stepfather/senator.

A new deal is made and a man named Journey comes to see him. Neither has had any heart for a long time, and they can't understand why this other person is interesting and becoming an obsession.

An intruder breaks in, the dead body swept away, and we meet Hale and Hardy, brothers/lovers, and more of the new plan is moving forward.

Months of bliss ends in a betrayal, as we then have an escape, a rescue and behind the scenes due justice.
We have a reconnect that gave us a tender and erotic, BDSM wrap up.

It is suggested that we read these tales in order.
ENJOY !

I really liked Chad and felt terrible for him when in the beginning he realized that he was trapped when Ken turned out to be the man his mother was going to marry. Eight years goes by and you know that Chad had left but not escaped Ken's reach and that he was broken. Journey was also broken and it was wonderful when he fell for Chad. I knew I didn't like Archer but had no idea that Journey was using Chad so Archer would have power over Ken and that left me shocked. I was glad that Chad had the twins to go to and that he confronted Jericho about Archer and found out that Archer had been going behind Jericho's back for that deal and Chad cared that Journey was being hurt again even with the betrayal. I was glad that Seven made Ken disappear and wished that something would happen to Chad's mother since he had endured so much because he was protecting her and she turned on him instead. This was a dark story but loved the ending.

This is such a great read!! It would have totally been 5 stars (and 5 stars aren't something I hand out easily) if there was just MORE!! I wanted more of everything. I wanted to know the depths of Journey, I wanted to feel and read more about Journey and Chad's budding relationship. I definitely wanted more hot sex. and the deprived side of me totally wanted more in-depth of Chad's abuse (sorry, not sorry that I like dark romance).

💜💜💜💜

The Fixer is the first book in the Damaged Devils series, it has to be read in order. It’s a dark fictional tale about a man consumed with revenge towards his stepfather. There are no hero’s here, it’s an anti-hero sort of story which is not going to be to everyone’s taste. The author explores some taboo ideas but I would recommend if these types of stories are to your taste.

Outstanding

Loved this story Got to see Jericho Dante again .I bought all 14 stories in the last series and am starting off here doing the same Great depth in storyline. This is the only author who can tell a story with so little pages She's amazing and we reap the benefits with stories that make you think about the horrors many children go thru.

Enjoyable read

This was a nice, quick paced book. I wish there was more detail to the storyline, the pacing didn’t detract from the enjoyment of the story. I definitely want to read more about this world, and I’m so looking forward to checking out the twins’ book. I’m hoping we learn more about the people that trained Journey and Seven as the series continues on.

Love damaged souls

This is the first book I've read by this author but certainly will not be the last. Chad is a young man who has endured much by the hand of his Senator stepfather. Journey is hired to get to the senator but he was not prepared for Chad and the feelings he evoked. An intriguing story of hurt comfort and found family.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. Yes, it had some moments where I sort of had to shrug and accept things, but overall, I'm intrigued. Mostly with Seven, if we're being honest. The end was entirely too convenient--both the conflict resolution and the... everything resolution. But that's alright, because I forgive a lot of things for a pleasant few hours of reading.

Quick read

Quick, interesting read about two damaged individuals brought together by chance. I don’t know why but I just love reading about the psycho/sociopath who attaches himself to someone and would do anything for their person. Not gonna lie, Archer is on my list and not the nice one either.

Charity always has me binge reading her new series. They are short stories but all connected so it's easy to flow to the next one. This series is the same. Easy to read, craziness, danger, lost souls and lots of love. When these damaged devils meet their other halves, nothing can stop them to keep them save.

Delightfully warped.

I do not normally like books with characters that are sketchy, but I liked this book a lot. It is very fast moving and I would have liked a bit more complexity, but still I like it.

It's a good start to a series. It's a bit of a quick read, but it's a good plot and hateable villains. It won't be everyone's taste, so please heed any warning the author tells in the beginning.

Yes its dark, but I read with my Kindle in dark mode anyway. But I will say it could be darker. There are details not given on the page that could shut down my brain. The happy ending on the page made my heart stutter though, and I love that!

Nice easy read

As a sucker for broken and tragic chart I found this a nice light read. Formatting leaves quite a bit to be desired but basic store and characters are believable.
