First, someone poisons Mrs. Scarlett, then members of the book club start dropping like flies. Who in the village will turn to murder just to stop people reading a few dusty old books?

Mina's got to figure it out quick, or her beloved teacher Mrs. Ellis is next to die. Luckily, she's got Moriarty, Heathcliff, and Quoth to help. That is, if she can figure out her feelings for her three fictional men before the magical bookshop is torn apart by sexual tension.

They want her.

She can't choose. But maybe . . . she doesn't have to.

Contains mature themes.

Okay, i am obsessed with this series. ( summary ) its a rh story where the heroine Mina gets a job in a cursed bookstore where fictional characters come to life. She meets James Moriarty, Heathcliff and Poe’s raven who can transform into a human. Together they solve the murders that has been happening in the bookshop ever since Mina arrived. The guys are interested in her and are willing to share but they also have to find out how did they come out of the book into the real world first.

So this is the second book of the series and its a bit creepy. The first book was about Ashley’s murder who was Mina’s bff and the case was solved, and in this book there is a group of women who reads Banned Books, they have a club and now they are being targeted. One by one each of them are dying and Mina has to find the killer because her childhood teacher is also the part of the book club and Mina has to save her before its her turn.

I loved the whole mystery thing, it was creepy but also funny because of the guys. I loved the bonding between Mina and each of the dudes especially Quoth who is the Raven/ human, he is so broken and my heart hurt for him but Mina shows him that he can have a normal life. Then there is Morrie who is the mastermind, i swear that dude is so smart i am like 😐😰😰 and he is kinky af. Then there is Heathcliff who is my fav, he is so grumpy but he has acknowledged his feelings for Mina and they are in a relationship now. I love all the characters from this book and i legit suspected everyone. I got chills while reading but i also wanted to know who the fuck is the killer, i was reading the clues carefully so i can guess who is the killer. I was in full detective mode but the ending was quiet shocking. I loved how the guys and Mina solved the murder, i swear this book gives me scooby doo vibes. Its kinda creepy but also hilarious + there is romance. Ugh i am so freaking obsessed with this series and the amazing characters.

Trama/Plot ⭐⭐⭐
Personaggi/Characters ⭐⭐⭐
Stile/Style ⭐⭐⭐
Spicy ⭐⭐⭐

***
A book suitable for spending a few pleasant hours. The mystery part is much more interesting than the fantasy part (from this point of view, in fact, the plot remains stuck in the first book of the series). As in the previous book, the spicy scenes are an end in themselves, not useful to the plot.

Is Heathcliff still challenging the Grinch?
Yes
Is he still hot as fluff and the best slash worst antihero of all time?
Hell yes.

Book two is as strong as the first one. Mina is an endearing heroine, the guys are sins on a stick, the murder is entertaining although easy to deduct.
The plot finally sets itself and we have enough little hints to expect a real development of the bookshop mystery in the following book.

What I am waiting for?
A new fictional character pulled out from his book.

Which one?
Nerdy Dracula, misunderstood vampire with a tomato juice addiction.

Of Mice and Murder by Steffanie Holmes is book 2 in the Nevermore Bookshop Mysteries Series. This continues the story of Wilhelmina 'Mina' Wilde. You really should read the previous book, 'A Dead and Stormy Night' first before reading this one. Mina is still dealing with the possibility of loosing her site, her feeling for Morrie, Heathcliff and Quoth who live above the books store she runs. Mina has already step into a passionate encounter with Morrie who is telling her to look into going into doing something with Heathcliff but she also is having feeling for the mysterious raven shifter, Quoth....whats a girl to do? When she allows the Banned Book Club to use one of the books stores rooms, it leads to murder. So a new mystery is on for Mina and the boys to find out about. So enjoying this series! Can't wait for the next installment.

4.5⭐️ for Mina and her boys! Another stellar book that's just as good as the first in the series. Yes, there is hot s%x, but there are also very well written and developing characters and laugh out loud moments that you can't help but love. I'm really enjoying this series 🤓🤓🤓

So, listening to these, I don't know if I'm going to continue. I have tepid feelings about the heroine. Not a big fan of this version of Moriarty, and I don't like any of the voices this narrator does for the male characters. That's a shame sin e this is a RH novel and the males outnumber the FMC.

I'm so incredibly happy that I discovered this series and story. A lot of elements seem to be written and crafted for me and there are parts of the story, no matter how subtle that really speak to my soul. I can't think of one thing in this story I don't like and don't appreciate and the moment I started this new book I just wanted to read on and on and on. A pity I had to work in between.

What I love most about this book is Mina. Mina is an amazing character. She feels real, natural and very vivid. In a way she is a lot like me, in a way she is not, but I'm pretty sure we would have been best friends. I love how she has her moments of doubt and worry, but how she never really comes across as insecure. I love how her growing blindness is just part of her story, but not her entire story. I love how she is willing to take risks and goes for something, but how she's also careful and aware of dangers and not afraid to ask for protection.

Apart from that I also really love all three of her guys. I have to admit that I can't really say much on how true they are to their literary counterparts, as I have not read any of their stories (shame on me), but I like how different they are, how flawed they are and how real they are. Apart from that the romance feels natural and really fits the characters. They love as differently as they are, all in their own way and at their own pace.

And then there is the setting, the atmosphere and the mystery. The bookshop is the perfect setting for this story and due to the wonderful descriptions I can see, feel and smell the bookshop all around me when I'm reading. And the book found a nice balance between the mystery, the emotional development of the characters and the romance. Also, the mystery is really exciting. It's not TOO easy to guess, but the hints are there and the solution really does make sense.

I'm already looking forward to next week when I'll read the next book!

Ugh this series is so much bloody fun!! I did not think I'd need to binge it, but omg I do.

After successfully solving her best friend's murder, Mina figures she'll catch a break and figure what to do about her attraction to the three guys of Nevermore bookshop. Of course this is not the case at all. Mrs. Ellis asks Mina about where she can host her Banned Bookclub meetings and Mina (to Heathcliff's horror) volunteers the bookshop. Things go horribly wrong at the meeting when Mrs. Scarlett drops dead. Then other members of the club become targets, Mina must solve the case before her teacher is next.

I loved this installment even more! There wasn't too much development on the bookshop magic aspect, but I can be patient. The mystery was so well done and I didn't guess the culprit at all! Plus all the steamy bits between Mina and her guys, oo so much fun.

I really love the nuances in Mina's relationship with each guy. I love Heathcliff's brooding, Quoth's quiet sincerity and Morrie's twisted deviousness. Ugh god, these guys are just so delicious and I didn't think I would be so in love with them. And then there's the steam. So much STEAM. I freaking love it.

I love Jo and Mina's friendship. It's in the beginning stages, but I love these two so much. It's so much fun. I can't wait to see more of these two and the bookshop!

The concept of this series is quite unique however, I just didn’t enjoy it as much as I hoped I would. It was lacking in content and humour for my liking. I wanted to be excited and shocked and to feel some sense of emotion while reading this book but it just didn’t happen for me.

I think I’ll give the rest of the series a miss unfortunately.

Everything I said for the first book, I stand by for this one as well.
I love the concept. I love the cozy mystery with a helping of spice, type plot line.
I guessed some of the reveal pretty early on, but it didn’t bring down the entertainment value and there was some of it that I didn’t guess, so that was fun.

The relationships are where I’m a little rocky on where I stand.
The FMC is SO hesitant with all of them, especially with the aspect of them sharing her.
Plus with all of their pasts she can’t get over her fear that she’s doing ‘something wrong’.
I understand it. I’m just REALLY hoping that she starts to lose that very soon.
I would love to see her just jump in and accept them all.

Oh something I forgot to mention in my first review that I’m also not a huge fan of. This series is single POV, so far.
I’m not having a bad time with it. I just think it would make everything ten times better if we could see inside the men’s heads. Especially since Morrie and Heathcliff are so hesitant and a little emotionally cold.

I don’t know.
I still really love what’s going on and can’t wait to see what’s next, so I’ll be reading the next book, for sure.

I'm really enjoying rereading this series. I love all the red herrings and the throwbacks to classic mystery novels and the dynamics between all the characters. The banned book club members were absolutely fantastic and I love the surprise villain at the end; I didn't see it coming. The subplot of the Terror of Argleton made me laugh so much and I love the balance between the spice, comedy, and heavier topics.

Steffanie Holmes was asked what book would you like to write... a romance? A fantasy? A murder mystery? A comedy? A spicy RH? Her reply was... yes.

I'm loving it!

This one is better than the first book. The mystery and murders are just a lot more interesting and the investigations bring forward a lot of new twists which wasn't done quite as well in the first book.

Also the romance really gets going in this book. The boys are still kinda flat but they have a little more character. And their interactions with each other, with Mina and with Mina's mum (which was actually hilarious) were fun.

The whole "why choose" aspect is nice but kinda useless when the boys and the spicy scenes kinda all feel the same. Still fun though.

Not going to add a star rating to this - because the reasons I would rate it low are probably the reasons one would seek this book out.

I love the mystery in the book and the overarching mystery of the book shop, but it’s sex scenes are annoying. They don’t fit in with the story being told and the book would be better without them.

This was meh. I wanted to give the series another shot street the first book, i felt there was she potential. But it wasn't enough of a cozy mystery for me. It wasn't enough of a fantasy for me. I think it's just not for me.

Murder, Magic, and (Hot!) Fictional Characters—What More Could You Want?

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Let’s just say this book’s got me rethinking every bookshop I’ve ever been in—because clearly, they’re missing one key feature: sexy fictional characters come to life! I mean, seriously, where can I sign up for this kind of customer experience?

I was completely sucked in by the charming combo of cozy murder mystery, paranormal weirdness, and just the right amount of spice to keep things fun. The bookish references sprinkled throughout were like little winks to every reader’s soul, and I was here for all of it.

Could the plot be a tad more polished? Maybe. But when you’ve got a shop like this one and a cast this magical, I’m willing to overlook a few loose ends. So, if you’re a fan of cozies with a paranormal twist and a little heat, this is absolutely worth checking out!

Another murder mystery and romance tale. It was pretty good.

There were certain aspects here that made me like the 2nd book more than the 1st, including the progression of the romance and more development into the book store mystery. We're slowly getting into the groove of things. The murder mystery of the hour tended to take precedence over the overarching fantasy theme, though. I wanted more of the bookstore and its secrets, but I understand that this is a series and I must have patience.

Oh, damn how I love romance and slow burn and clever and charming characters. I appreciate the development here in this reverse harem, and I look forward to more of this foursome. *wink wink*

I didn't enjoy this murder mystery very much, however. It seemed contrived, trying to be complex when all it was was confusing and unlikely. I gave this book 4 stars because of everything else. I put up with it in favor of the other great things in the story.

Overall: I would only reread certain parts. I would recommend this anyway, despite my misgivings about the inconceivable murder. Solid sequel. Now on to the third!

Happy reading, Goodreads fiends.

* "Ho pensato a te, Mina, a come temi l'oscurità. Non solo l'oscurità che potrebbe diventare il tuo mondo, ma anche l'oscurità che vedi dentro di me." Morrie fece una paura. "E anche dentro Heathcliff e Quoth. Ma, soprattutto, quella che vedi in te e di cui hai paura."

I enjoyed the second installment Nevermore Bookshop mystery. Mina and her gaggle of brooding men solve another crime and develop their relationship a little more in this novel. I like Mina and her struggle to come to terms with her impending blindness. I also like the way her relationships with all three men is explored. Each has a unique personality, but unlike other "reverse harem" novels I've read, they each have a relationship with each other as well (though not sexual as yet). I prefer this type of poly-trope over the other.

I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

So I kinda really loved this one? I am so in love with Quoth is not even funny and I absolutely loved that he gets a bit more page time in this book. So just for that alone I have to recommend it to any and all soft boi lovers out there.

Also, for all my smut enthusiasts, we get the first threesome here, so if this is what you were actually looking for you just struck gold and if multiples partners is absolutely not your thing... Well, I have bad news for you.

Again, the mystery wasn't mindblowing but props to the author, I was so incredible into the whole "will she won't she" of getting all the gents that I was a bit surprised by the twist.

Still very cozy, and I'm still very intrigued where the mysteries of the actual bookshop are concerned.

As for the mystery of the murder in this book, I also liked this one much more than the first book. In the first book, I guessed pretty early who the real killer was, and I was totally fine with that. But I'm still glad that I actually got to go on the ride to finding the killer this time around. I didn't guess it right away. In fact, I was successfully moved away from the couple times I considered the actual killer. So bravo on that.

I'm still loving this series, and I'll happily be continuing.

Just as mysterious and funny as the first one. I love this series; I love the premise behind it – I mean who wouldn’t love their book boyfriends coming to life? Mina is still struggling, she’s even more worried about her sight, and she can’t quite figure out how the guys feel about her. That doesn’t stop her for looking for the person who killed a woman in the Banned Book Club, right under her nose in the bookshop. The steam ramps up a bit in this one, and it’s wonderful. Heathcliff is just as broody as always, Quoth is learning to be in his human form more often, and Morrie, well he’s still quite the mystery. Mina is such a great character to follow on her journey’s, she very stubborn, but she feels real, like the best friend you wish you had. She carries the weight of the world on her shoulders, but she’s very down to earth. It’s funny, charming, and mysterious. I’m so glad I stumbled across Nevermore! Come join Mina on her murder mystery adventures!

This one was a little more slow going than the last book. I still enjoyed it, and the spice was kicked up a notch. The whole mystery with the book shop is getting more intriguing, but I'm still waiting for something to happen. I feel that it's dragging quite a bit, and this book had a lot of intricacies that it detracted from the cute, spicy, murder mystery that I love. Still will read the next book because I'm LOVING these characters, especially Morrie 🥵🥵

Mice and Murder delivers exactly what the Nevermore Bookshop series promises: a quirky blend of murder mystery, romance, and magic set in a world where literary characters step off the page. It’s witty, chaotic, and full of charm, with a cast that keeps you guessing and grinning in equal measure. The plot does get a bit crowded at times, but the mix of suspense, heart, and bookish humor makes it an irresistibly fun read. A perfect pick for anyone who likes their mysteries clever, their romance slow-burn, and their magic delightfully unpredictable.

Compared to the first book in this series, the storyline in this book was more engaging. The author introduced new characters, along with their secrets. The plot led me to another unexpected path just when I thought I had it all figured out. It kept me wondering who the real murderer as I continued. Fortunately, everything made sense in the end.
