New city, new troubles. It's going to take all the magic Special Agent Diana Sheen can gather to keep the peace. But will it be enough? Diana runs a secret Federal agency that combats magic mixed with wicked. Her team cleans up the worst streets, disguised as bounty hunters. Challenge number one is a small troll and his ongoing obsession with action films. Good thing he's a helluva fighter too. Still, is it enough? Dark magic has a new twist born from an ancient cult and they're playing for keeps. Good thing Agent Sheen knows how to play rough. It's all in a day's work at the secret bureau of the Federal Agents of Magic.
I’m TR Cameron, science fiction author. I’ve been an avid consumer of the genre since I was six, I think, when I broke the seal on my Dad’s copies of the Asimov Foundation books. It’s been all downhill since then.
I have a day job that I love most days, and writing is pretty much my only consistent hobby. When I find time that’s not already filled with my wife, my daughter, my writing, my work, or dodging the affections of our clowder of cats, you can find me playing video games (currently Dishonored 2 – I’m a little behind the times on this one), watching things (Marvel movies, American Gods, Agents of Shield, Justified, The Expanse, Gotham), playing board games, or, naturally, reading.
My favorite authors in Sci-Fi are David Weber, Jean Johnson, John Scalzi, CJ Cherryh, and the giants: Asimov, Pohl, Bear, Heinlein, etc. I read a lot in other genres too, and am a big fan of Matthew Woodring Stover, Michael Anderle, Jim Butcher, and I could go on and on and on. If I had to choose one favorite, though, it would be Stephen R. Donaldson, whose Thomas Covenant series was transformative for me.
Probably my pie-in-the-sky dream for my writing career is that someone would make a movie or television show of my books and I could be a part of the production. Sure, unlikely, but a clowder-dodger can dream, right? My more practical dream is that I can keep writing and both entertaining and connecting with my readers for years and years to come.

Dreadfully detailed descriptions of the fights that really don't need to be there. After a while, you start wondering if the fight details are in the story to pad the word count...
The troll is the only interesting character and he is starting to get a little frayed around the edges...
I would read it just for Max and Rath. This whole world is the best! One you get there, you really want to live there. These are like potato chips-you can't read just one!
Special Agent Diana Sheen has barely had time to catch her breath, as she starts to pull together the team that she'll need to run the Pittsburgh ARES, or BAM: Black Ops Agents of Magic, as she preferred to call it.
She & her small team of Cara and Tony, as well as Rath, her Troll friend, have just started to get over their first explosive battle with Remembrance's Magical group, when they hear that Remembrance are planning to attack the Cube, a top security, and supposedly top secret, prison for Magical Criminals, that was built hidden away, below a block of commercial offices, on the outskirts of Pittsburg.
Although busy trying to sort out a decent plan of attack and defence, to be ready for the attack on the Cube, Diana realises that Rath, the Troll that she rescued, and who adopted her, was definitely going to become a part of their core group.
As Diana practices with her group, she realises that the magic that had barely been there for her, since she was a child, is suddenly getting strong enough to help her to fight almost on an even footing with the various magicals, coming to Earth from Oriceran.
But she, and her small, but highly effective team, are invited down into the local Kemana, by Lady Alayne, the Leader of this secretive underground world.
OWhen they follow the directions given to them, they find a whole new world of wonder there - and a kind welcome from Lady Alayne who, like Diana, was hoping for a better relationship between those of Earth, and those who were once of Oriceran, but now of the Kemana.
I enjoyed reading this book. It had a good mix of character development, as well as plenty of action scenes, and I loved the detail written in those scenes.
Although I've no idea how to fight, I've been reading SciFi and fantasy since I was eight years old, and the quality of the fight scenes in this series, definitely lived up to the best.
I'm loving how the team is slowly working ever better together, and how they are really starting to complement each other, especially when they do fight, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing who else will be joining their team, as time goes on.
So, now that I've finished book two of this great series, I'll finish up this review, then sort out book three: ' Counter Ops', to be ready to read once I've caught up with some sleep, once more.
Then, once I've finished reading it, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think about this next installation!

This series is a campaign. Considering the content, consider this a agents of shield/hydra battle. Pull out all of the 007 gadgets and go to town. What the book(s) are lacking is a reason to care about the main character. There is nothing that makes me want to cheer for her. The number of characters has been toned way down from the first book. There just is not character development, nothing in her personality other than work. Give me a Joe Ledger, Kitty Norville, any of the women of the other world, shoot give me dungeon crawler Carl. Just give me a character that I want to read about. I think this series would be better on the big screen than in the written word. Perhaps Diana will be worth caring about in books 4 or 5. I gave it 2 books, thats enough. There are too many really good books with characters that you want to care about to spend any more time with this one.
Excellent series, finished in one sitting keep them coming.
I really enjoyed the characters of the series, so far they are engaging, funny, and interesting. This is only the second book of the series so I know more character development will be forthcoming. This book is fast-paced full of action with spells gun play and fisticuffs. If you enjoyed TKG you will enjoy this series. The thing I like the most is the story progression is proceeding more rapidly than in a lot of books, I should not have to wait six or seven books in a series before the protagonist learns how to use their abilities. Please keep them coming. Eagerly awaiting the next book.
this is the second book in this cute series and I am liking it more and more. Wrath at full growth mode is 7 feet tall nice for a troll. with his faithful borzoi Max he "must train" at all times. Diana is team leader of the Pittsburgh operations and she is getting her team together and outfitting her space as well. They take on all magical cases and try to make the city safe (they are very good at it). Book 3 is Counter Ops and I am so looking forward to it. Reading on for more fun and hijinks as well as awesome writing and a cool story line.
This book was not as good as the first book. There are too many battles which your team mostly lost. Every important bad guy always seem to get away. The good guys in the field are not very smart, they're not thinking ahead. The leaking of information , and the bad guys always escaping by a portal should have been countered long before now. And the way they keep rushing in without an exit plan... I am starting to have more respect for the bass guys.
I would say this was an okay read, nothing less but certainly nothing more either.
After having read the first book in the series I felt like it had promise. Sadly, I do not feel that much came out of that promise. It is not a bad book but I had somehow hoped for something more.
I still like Diana, most of her friends and I certainly like the troll. I almost feel that the troll is the main character on the book. Diana never really felt like a main protagonist actually carrying the story up and forward. There’s plenty of fun dialogue. The action is not bad.
However, I felt like the characters and the story just wondered around without any real goal. It felt a bit rudderless. There was not really much development and my hopes of Diana evolving in terms of magical powers didn’t really get fulfilled.
Each chapter by itself was perhaps not that bad but when put together they did not really complement each other to create a compelling story.
I still have hopes for this series but the third book really has to pull things together otherwise I might drop the series.
TR Cameron has created an awesome addition to the Oriceran Universe. It would have been easy to make Rath and Diana into YTT and Leira clones, but he didn't. They are new and fun, with personality quirks all their own. Someone needs to show Rath Kung Fu the Legend, and some Jackie Chan movies. They are right up his alley.
I just finished this book and am ready for the next one...NOW! The team is forming up and developing character wise very nicely. I love Diana and Rath (Max too)! I really like that the troll is an official member of the team and he always does or says something to make the reader laugh! Keep the books coming!
Consider yourself growing up without magic. Then suddenly, your world inundated by magic, and you cannot stay as observer. You gotta play a big role in it. And it's not always good for your health. As in many bad guys will struck their lightning bolt at you.
An awesome second book in the Federal Agents of Magic series! I just love Diana, Rath, Cara, Tony and Kayleigh. It has gone of action and drama, with a good dose of humor thrown in. I can't recommend this series enough. It has become one of my very favorite in the Oriceran Universe. Keep churning out the awesome stories guys!
I really am enjoying this series. The world building is well done; the action is nonstop. I love the fact that the characters are strong and don't have that neediness that seems to be in alot of books today. The story line gets stronger with each book. I an on the third and already hoping there is another waiting for me.
Diana Sheen, Rath, and Max are a family, an unique one, but a great one. Although Diana is still on the learning curve in regards to trolls, Rath is a great partner. Fighting black magic while spinning up a new agency and moving is a formidable task but she'll get it done! Watch out Pittsburgh, There's a new law in town.
I absolutely love the characters particularly Rath and Max. However, still not entirely sold on the story. The weapons stuff goes on too much and I feel into too much detail. The fight scenes are ok by I don't ever really feel the characters are in serious trouble. I will read one more and then decide whether to proceed or ditch.
Book 1 was a good introduction to Diana & some of her capabilities. Book 2 sees her putting her team together & we start to see what they can do & we get a glimpse at the main opponent & a hint of the powers behind the scenes. The series is moving at a good pace. A little new information at a time. Can't wait to read book 3.
Not a bad read. The cast of characters still are flat, and I’m not feeling a lot of empathy towards their personalities. Except for Rath. I’ll give them all another chance and check out the third book when it arrives.
The second in this totally enjoyable series. I definitely like the cast of characters and am deeply immersed in the story line. I only wish the next book was already out. Kudos to you all: TR, Martha, and Michael. This series is a winner.
I wasn't too keen when I started this book, I found it a little hard to get into. That changed, it kept getting better and better. it's so worth carrying on. You've hooked me. I am definitely going back to this series. Thank you.
The series is off and running. I love the characters, especially the troll and max. The only thing that bugged me was that you referred to the characters title rather than their name. Ie. The agent waited , the inspector ran... Looking forward to book 3
Sorry I just could not get into this one like the first one. This one was very wordy and not a lot of action. I understand it is a set up story for what is happening.
Enjoying this series a lot!! Like the characters and the villainous bad guys. Diana is coming along.well as her powers continue to increase and become versatile such that she surprised the smug b....d who is the local leader. Can't wait.for.tje.next ome!!!?
Loved the second book and I enjoyed playing spot the movie reference. One of my favorites was from V for vendetta. Great characters with lots of action to enjoy. I look forward to more from this series 😁
Lots of action as the bad guys decide to come forward and be known. Some serious throwdowns leave Diana's team pretty bruised up but not down. Got the next installment all queued up.
Magic Ops was a fantastic start to this new series, and Agents of Mayhem lived up to the start. The humour, action, and characters are all wonderful, and I am indeed hooked. On to Counter Ops!
The characters, plot and action are so engrossing that it's near impossible to put the book down! It's so good that I haven't even read any of the other books in my library yet.
Rath is wonderful! More of him and his antics. Good female main character, I like her and her friends. Also how she likes to carry an armory with her. Don't get caught unprepared!!
This is a very interesting look at what a special ops type organization might look like if there was magic in this world. The characters romp from one incredible adventure to another.
