PhotoReading is the most sophisticated and UNDERRATED reading/learning system (the Rob Lowe of reading?) on the market!

I'm an experienced photoreader and the reviews that I've read are shocking! In my opinion these reviewers are actually dismissing, due to a lack of dedication, an open mind and persistence, something that could change their lives!

The Good and the Bad
The Good:
1. A reading paradigm shift. PhotoReading is basically using "divergent" eyes to see the page and thereby allowing your creative (right brain) to see the text. This results in allowing you to read the actual text faster. - However only experiencing this will allow you to believe it.
2. The techniques in the book are far ahead of their time, or even the present learning technology. The techniques range from increasing concentration by borrowing from dyslexic learning techniques, to synching information with both hemispheres of your mind through mind maps, to increasing regular reading speed with the most sophisticated speed-reading techniques, to emotional teachings of how to learn better with NOPS.

At the risk of coming off as a sleazy sales man and in the spirit of keeping reviews honest & balanced I must mention the bad (the very, very bad)..
1. You need to suspend your disbelief, must be approached with an open mind.
2. You need to practice the steps, though enjoyable now, I do remember the frustrated feelings I had while stumbling trying to learn this system.
3. Paul did not explain mind mapping as well as he should have.
4. This is no instant "magic pill", while the results are nothing short of amazing, you really need, as Brian Tracy would say, the "want power".

I cannot recommend this highly enough. Please read it, practice it, practice it, and practice it.. with an open mind.

This book is a bit ridiculous. While reading it, I kept on thinking about all those dogs who are quite big, with big teeth and lots of strength so there is no need for barking. Photoreading book is a bit like one of those barking tiny tiny dogs. I made me tired just reading all the praises from the readers inside the book. Why would you bother with that if the technique was reliable? The worse one is about a fire fighter who, after attending the photographic reading course, showed up at the station before the fire alarm went off. Seriously?
I found it very usefully at times. For instance, the mind mapping exercise and very good and extremely useful. It made me believe that there is a way to significantly improve my speed but I don't think this is it.
After reading the book I tried to find what's the best reading score for the Speed Reading Champion. It's 1500 words per minutes. There is nobody in the world who can ready 25000 words per minute as Mr Scheele writes in his book.

Why didn't I read this earlier? If you're going to read, why not learn first HOW to read?

This book breaks down not only how to absorb info fast, but the strategy behind the process of taking in info. In a world where many of us feel information overload, it's essential to develop systems for taking in more of what we need and want the most.

Is an utter waste, you won't remember 1% of what you read from books if you read this way. I tried it for one entire semester(yes i actually made myself believe that this method works, but is futile for texts which require even little thoughtwork. I'd willingly flay this dead author walking if i was to find him alive

The PhotoReading step is pretty different. No other book I've read has this. I learned to mind map from reading this book, and so far it is my favorite method for notetaking. I've been a little hesitant to 'jump off the deep end' with this book and take its suggestion to use this method exclusively.
The method does seem to work, as odd as it may seem. I've been able to find things in books pretty easily after I've PhotoRead them, or I have an idea of what part of the book I'm looking in and what for.
I took this guy's Syntopical reading idea and decided to research speed reading.
This was the 2nd book I read about speed reading in November of 2006, and I consider it nearly tied for 1st place with Power Reading by Rick Ostrov.

One of the best speed reading course.

I gain my speed reading the at the first time read it. With very creative approach you'll notice that the skills happens naturally.

I strongly suggest for those person who want to start their speed reading course to get this book for the start so you don't have to find another.

Be bold and follow the instruction. Remember that practice make perfect. Most of the failure with this such program that we're blocking our mind to accept the ideas at the first time. If you really want to get a benefit from this book, please allow yourself to complete the program as told in the instruction area.

If other peoples can do, so can you.

If you don't know how to photoread yet - you really should learn! I don't practice it as much as I should, but it has changed me for the better. Paul Scheele teaches you how to hypnotize yourself into a more receptive state, and you literally flip through any book - even upside down and backwards. Then you release the info into your unconscious mind and it sorts through it for you. Then, you go back to the book consciously and use another method to quickly pick up the details that you have identified. He has an audio course and a live course that you can take as well.

The last speed reading book I would read, and I did.
Too much claims about absurd reading speeds like superman. Then wait 24 hours for incubation, then read again. I recommend read this book really really fast.

а) она хорошо работает при работе со спец.литературой (учебники, науч-поп, монографии, спец.статьи и т.п.), но не для чтения художественной;
б) она хорошо помогает наполнить краткосрочную-оперативную память (т.е. идеальна для решения задач типа "как завтра сдать экзамен"), но есть много вопросов к долгосрочному усвоению системных знаний;
в) это НЕ скорочтение! Если следовать алгоритму фоточтения в полном варианте, то времени на чтение и переработку информации из книги тратится раза в 1,5 больше, чем при обычном чтении;

I have just finished reading the book so it's too early to say if it's effective or not - I will update my review in a couple of weeks.

The method suggested here is quite new. I think most people will argue if the "photoreading" step - where you let your unconscious mind see the content at an unbelievable speed - is useful. Maybe it is, maybe not, but it takes such a short time that no harm is done if you do it.

The other steps can also be found in normal speed reading manuals. Having a clear purpose, actively asking questions and relating the contents to something that is important to you makes a big difference when it comes to retention no matter how fast you read. Be curious, relax and let your mind work.

New to me was the approach to read a book multiple times with high speed. You will recognize more and more things so that even by doing super reading, dipping and skittering the comprehension level will increase and in parallel you will need less time.

As with all other things, it's best to try them out on your own so I suggest you don't look too much at the reviews or success stories. Make your own experiences and decide for yourself.

P.S. These days a lot of material is available electronically, which makes it much easier to go through it at various speed. On YouTube I have found this track that helps to keep you in a relaxed state. It's one of the "wow, something is happening but I can't explain it" things. :-)

UPDATE: I wasn't really successful with that but make up your own mind. What works better is to go through a book multiple times at different speeds and zoom in on the important pieces.

I'm still not sure if flipping through a book cross eyed really does anything, but after "photoreading" a novel I started on some writing for nanowrimo. Later I went back and read this novel normally. The parallels between the novel I looked at cross-eyed and the one I later wrote are astounding. Completely baffling if I try to take the position that it was random chance, I can't imagine that I got such strong clear imagery that agreed so precisely with this novel I hadn't read yet by complete coincidence.

As far as using this method on nonfics, I'm less blown away. But I'm talking about only the initial "photoreading" without "activating", I imagine that these methods taken all together are quite effective, but not nearly as groundbreaking as Mr.Scheele would have us believe.

Bought this for less than half the price - my first introduction to this genre of skills.

To be honest, this took me many days to read. I ignored the advice to have fun, and found pressure in the most unlikely of places.

I managed the sausaggae weiner without batting an eyelash, but book blimps were hard to come by. I only see the top of the blimp.

But I did manage to read faster - by focusing and "skittering" onto key words.

A reference manual for sure, and I hope to imbibe the skills taught here.

As an investor/trader, I was looking for a way to acquire knowledge from books more quickly. The book itself was average. I think photo reading does work but just the way Paul has wrote the book, makes it confusing.

After reading the book, I did online research because I was still confused the "Activating" step. As photo reading hasn't really worked for me, I know once I do it more I will start noticing the changes.

I get the point and it offers a way to digest some books that you don't really feel like fully diving in, but still want to get the main ideas out of.

It's not the way to go with all the books but I feel like it opened my eyes a bit that I don't have to complete everything I read page by page and ultimately not be able to finish because of various reasons.

It is a bit annoying that a huge section of the book is talking about how "great" this method is! There are endless opinions from people who have supposedly read the book who think it worked and all. I did not finish it in the end. I am not sure whether it will work or am I being sceptical?
