I bought this novel about two months ago after watching a review by my favorite BookTuber. The way they spoke about it instantly caught my attention so, I get a copy.
But then, life happened. I had a long list of non-fiction books waiting to be read, so IMaan, Umeed aur Mohabbat sat quietly on my shelf, staring at me every day. I kept telling myself, “I’ll read it once I’m done with my non-fiction stack.” Deep down, I knew that once I started it, I wouldn’t be able to stop — and I was right.
Last night, I finally picked it up. And guess what? I finished it in less than two hours! Umera Ahmed’s storytelling pulled me in completely , it was emotional, meaningful, and beautifully written. The novel reminded me why I love Urdu fiction so much.
When I finally opened the book, something funny happened — it instantly reminded me of Lahasil and Aab-e-Hayat. Not intentionally, it just happened on its own. Maybe it was the tone, maybe the characters, but there was this familiar feeling — the same emotional depth that Umera Ahmed always brings into her stories. Those who’ve read her novels will understand what I mean.
The characters are impactful, and that’s one thing I really admire about Umera Ahmed. She never loses focus; she sticks to one strong theme and builds the whole story around it. That’s something very specific and special about her writing. And she does it without dragging things — she conveys the entire idea beautifully within 400 or 500 pages, not thousands.
If I’m honest, by the end of the novel I wished for a little more dialogues and scenes of Imaan and Umeed. I expected the ending to be more intense or layered, but even then, it was satisfying in its own way.
And yes, I’ve noticed something funny — Umera Ahmed always seems to mention a doctor in her novels. I’m beginning to think there might be a real-life doctor somewhere behind all this inspiration — maybe we should all go find that “doctor” she keeps giving us! 😄
Overall, Imaan, Umeed aur Mohabbat is a beautifully written story that reminds you of faith, love, and the strength of belief. It’s emotional, simple, and deeply touching — everything you expect from Umera Ahmed. 💫
