When Evy is out riding with her horse Rusty and her wild mustang filly Twilight, she comes across some poachers who have shot and killed a moose. As horrible as that is, things get worse when she discovers its baby, a very young, now-orphaned calf, in danger of dying if she can't find it milk soon. She is determined to save the calf, but before she can Twilight disappears! Evy sets out to rescue her intrepid filly, only to stumble on even worse danger! Will her problems never end?
ANGELA DORSEY currently lives on Vancouver Island and is thoroughly enjoying the ocean breezes, awesome hiking, and lack of snow! In the past, she has lived in a number of small towns throughout B.C., and loved them all.
She loves hiking, traveling, and animals, and has a tendency to name her pets after things that remind her of her coastal home, such as Misty, Raven, and Cedar.
Angela writes novels, screenplays, and non-fiction, and has a number of literary publications (short stories, poems, and postcard stories) and articles published as well.
Evy’s adventures continue and boy did things take a sudden turn! Between Evy keeping her ability a secret plus trying to dig into her mom’s secret plus dealing with a new guy who keeps bugging her and Twilight PLUS trying not to tangle with poachers and it’s one crazy ride!
The parts with the poachers both infuriated me and made me sad at what happened to the moose calf’s mom, which heads up if you’re sensitive to animal deaths and the sadness of a baby animal losing its mom, because Evy does come across the body of a moose and the calf’s reaction to his dead mom is so heartbreaking I nearly cried. Things get happier for the calf when Evy takes him but that scene is REALLY hard to read. 😭
I love how more characters were introduced and wove in with our original cast, not to mention I really am growing to love and admire Evy more and more. And the way her friends came together to do something special at the end made me tear up it was so wonderful. 🥰
I’m excited to keep going and see what happens next! Hopefully we start learning more about her mom’s secret soon! 👀
‼️Content‼️
Language: sucked
Violence: a bullet flies past a character’s head; the body of a dead, headless moose is found (not detailed); bad guys plan to “take care of” a character
Other: a girl can telepathically talk to and feel the emotions of horses; illegal hunting/poaching; a calf grieves over his dead mother; an orphaned moose calf; a character is captured and tied up
I like that the sequels in this series appear to be able to stand alone. Each is complete but they are related to each other. Items that happened in the earlier book, were explained in this so you wouldn't have to read the first before reading this. Age: Mid elementary and older.
I enjoyed this as well. I like that the story is wrapped up, and that earlier stories are explained. But I also like that you know that it's more to the story, but you don't have to continue on right away because it doesn't end in a cliff hangar.
Now I can't wait for next series! What mystery will we find now from the" horse" whisperer! Or what new trouble will she find again? Another family mystery or! saving another animal
Truly enjoying this series about a young girl and her horses. Living out in the wild bush country there is so much trouble a young girl can get into. And she tends to find it although she usually has good intentions to begin with. Can't wait for the next book.
I love how she can talk to horses but the horses are still definitely horses and not like people with an understanding but not very anthropomorphic. This is a great series and I would've loved it as a child.
(She said early on that she didn't want to remind her mother how expensive it would be to have windows in the new part of the house, but at the end windows turn up out of nowhere (?))
these books are so chill and the atmosphere- i wish i could live like them away from society and live life it’s so comforting, books from my childhood it still hits the same:)
