Countdown Annual 1972

Rate this book
The Plant Master is the ex post facto title of the Third Doctor comic story in the 1972 Countdown Annual. Like many pre-Marvel comic strips, it had no title on first publication. The name gained traction after being used by Jean-Marc Lofficier in The Terrestrial Index and confirmed by John Ainsworth in his then-comprehensive listing of Third Doctor strips in DWCC #4

http://nwhyte.livejournal.com/1977350.html[return][return]TV annual featuring various sfnal kids' TV shows of the early 70s, including Joe 90, Thunderbirds , UFO, a couple I hadn't heard of (Countdown and The Secret Service) and of course Dr Who [sic]. Who fans are well served with a Pertwee cartoon strip whose storyline is surprisingly close to Seeds of Doom, and also two pages reporting from Aldbourne on the filming of The Dmons (will scan and post these in due course). There are also two cartoon stories about Dastardly and Muttley - I had forgotten that the Vulture Squadron were quite so obviously Comic Germans. I guess this must have done rather well in the Christmas 1971 sales.
