This is a really good middle grade book on WWII and it’s causes. I used it for instructional purposes and found it really digestible for young readers. It’s an overview in Hitler’s life, describes the role of WWI in causing WWII, and gets into all the details of WWII.
Also has a map and illustrative photos.
A great resource for any 6-8 grader.

This book taught me a lot more about Hitler the first time I read it and it does it in a less menacing way. If you'd like to learn more about Hitler Read this Book. It is quite simple to understand.

I learned some things about Hitler I did not know before and found this book to be interesting. It is written for a younger audience so it is a very quick read. I found myself contemplating current world situations and realizing that in some ways our world climate is very much like it was in the years leading up to Hitlers horrible and bloody reign. It seems to be so easy to ignore or appease wanna be despots until we realize what is happening, but by then it is too late.

I needed to read a biography of a historical figure and found this short biography. It really was not so much of a biography of hitler himself. As wicked as he was it’s fascinating to learn more about how he ticked.

Adolf Hitler was born on April 20 1889 in Austria; Hitler was the only child to Klara Hitler and Alois Hitler. Hitler started off with a hard life because Klara Hitler, his mother had already lost three children. Klara held Adolf Hitler to her heart, but even though Adolf Hitler did not have a good relationship with his father, that is so because Alois Hitler, his father worked with transferring goods from Austria. Adolf Hitler disgusted the idea of becoming like his father. At the school Adolf Hitler was hated his teachers and so did they hate him, not caring about his education he dropped out of school at the age of 16.”His teachers were fed up of him. One teacher described him as obstinate and hot-tempered” (Stewart Price pg 17.Evenafter Hitler had ore desperation to come. Adolf Hitler thought that the only way to solve things was to use violence.
Adolf Hitler stopped school and started being an artist and stayed home drawing. Adolf Hitler described those days as the happiest of his life, but that was not to be. Adolf Hitler lost his mother in December 1907; Klara Hitler had died of breast cancer. That event changed Hitler’s life, soon after Adolf decided to move to Vienna, Austria where he could chase the dream of being an artist. “Hitler moved to Vienna, Austria to chase his dream of being an artist” (Stewart Price pg 19). Hitler applied to Academy of Fine Arts, where soon after Hitler was rejected, he flew in rage. Rage had drived Hitler nuts, he threw the money his mother gave him, and he abandoned his apartment and had lost weight. “The whole Academy ought to be blown up!” (Stewart Price pg 20). Even though Hitler had his dreams shattered he refused to accept a regular job, selling his paintings to live, Hitler grew hatred to Jews around him.
The population of Jews grew, where Adolf Hitler lived. Adolf Hitler’s doctors and lawyers were Jewish; even though he hated them Adolf knew that they held the economics of Germany up. Hatred of Jews grew fast threw Europe and Hitler’s hatred was worse, Hitler blamed the Jews for crime rate and he blamed them for racial choosing in Academies.” Wherever I went, I now saw Jews“ (Stewart Price pg 21). Adolf grew sick of Jews and left Vienna, Austria and moved to Munich, Germany. Adolf had never felt so at home in his life, soon Hitler joined the army where he served Germany in combat to conquer the borders of France. The first try to conquer failed and 3750 soldiers died but Adolf Hitler managed to survive.

Friday 24 October

Even though Hitler was a mad killer he also was smart, Hitler developed a Hitler Youth program to influence the next generation to hate Jews. Soon Jews started to flew Germany in attempt to protect their families. Hitler was smart because he allied with Japan and Italy, Hitler had already conquered Czechoslovakia, Austria and was heading for Poland, and soon he unleashed his bombs of fear. Jews soon started to disappear from Germany most were put in concentration camps and others killed, those who wanted to stay were denied work . Hitler was Fascists, in a Fascists state people are not allowed to vote, which meant giving up your freedom, that took France and Britain’s attention, France and Britain unleashed war to stop Hitler. These forces were still recovering from World War 1 so they were unsuccessful saving Poland from the invasion.
Jews were murdered including gays, Roma, the mentally ill, disabled and Asians. Concentration camps were filled and it was said that over 11 million were found dead in one camp. Hitler wrote his ideas of Jews and “the imperfect human race” in his book called “Mein Kampf” this book described his plans and his racist view of the world. More and more Nazis joined Hitler in his conquest to conquer the world. France and Britain were powerless to Germany; soon Hitler was almost unbeatable. Jews were forced to wear gold stars on their clothes so they were easy indentified and killed if criticizing Hitler.
Anne Frank was ten years old and living in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, when the Nazis invaded. In her diary she described her life in hiding of the Nazis, Anne and her friends were forced not to ride automobiles and were not allowed to go to activities, such as movies and public swimming pools. Soon a series of Nazis were sent to capture Jews to kill them on sight, such called genocides. Anne Frank was able to hide for 2 years until she was captured and put in a concentration camp and killed with her family. Soon France fell to Hitler’s feet, and Britain was being bombed. Even though this happened the British were not ready to surrender, Hitler’s first attempt to conquer Britain failed but that wasn’t his full occupation. Britain had allies such as the French, the Americans, and other forces joined to help save Britain, even though they tried London was destroyed to the ground and other cities with it. Over 20,000 died in the bombing.

31 October 2014

Soon terror hit every citizen in Europe, as war was coming Britain warned all citizens to evacuate to the country side. Germany, Italy and Japan formed the Axis powers against the Allies such as France, Britain, Russia (Soviet Union), and the United Nations. These forces fought against Hitler and his alliances to conquer. “Germany, Japan, and Italy. Together these forces fought against the Allies” (Stewart Price 90). Therefore, these forces conquered places like Poland, Austria, France. But the guns of war were soon going to change as Hitler’s plans fell to rumble.
Jewish population dropped extremely, most people were put in concentration camps and others killed. Over 11 million Jews were killed and more were found in concentration camps. Even though Hitler thought of killing Jews was more of a hobby, he had bigger plans. “In June 1942, Hitler had launched a new offensive in southern Russia” (Stewart Price). The battle turned quickly Hitler’s troops were defeated in North Africa were soldiers fought the United Nations in Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. Soon Hitler started to lose territory, Hitler went mad with rage every night he would take sleeping pills and would be cruel to his commanders when Germany was defeated. France and the other powers of Europe soon started to fight back and chased the Nazis back to Germany, and finally to Berlin. Berlin thundered with war as revenge was placed in Berlin, Hitler hid in his underground cabinet with his girlfriend.
Hitler was outraged and felt betrayed by himself, which is the theme for Hitler. Hitler soon retreated as forces destroyed Berlin to dust. “Berlin lay in smoking ruins. Soviet artillery destroyed roads”( Hamilton 124). Hitler soon in April 29 married his long time girlfriend, which is where they flee when the Berlin was being destroyed. Hitler was found dead in his bunker, it was said that he commit suicide. Hitler before his death spread his last words of hatred to the Jews and soon was found dead.

7 November 2014
When Hitler first made his party of Nazis, trouble came. Hitler even thought he wasn’t in power he let out a gang of Brownshirts to go around in the streets of Berlin and beat up Jews. Of course people didn’t realize at first but soon Jews would make complaints to the police. Hitler was a very smart man but had a very racist point of view. Hitler told his Brownshirts to stop the ganging up on Jews, he knew after he was put in jail for 5 years that he couldn’t win control of Germany using violence. During his years of prison Hitler wrote his ideas of Jews in his book Mein Kampf.

Mein Kampf was written by Hitler during his years of prison. Hitler thought that Germany had lost the war between France because of the Jews. Not smart enough he didn’t realize there was almost no one to blame. Hitler first served the German Army in his early life, managing to survive the war he soon returned home and focused on his plans to overrun Germany.”Hitler stands outside Landsberg on the day of his release. Hitler was now determined to take over Germany through legal elections” (Hamilton 39). Hitler soon started making meetings in a small pub everyday making speeches about his hatred of Jews and about what would he do if he ruled.

Hitler soon started to get many followers. Hitler was writing his thoughts everyday on what he would do. Hitler always said that he will “return the riches and glory of Germany” but what others didn’t know that he would have to take millions of lives with it.”Hitler would demand silence of the audience and recorded on a radio of his thoughts of Jews” (Hamilton 30). Hitler was very manipulative, as many young men joined him soon the Hitler won the elections and was now in control of Germany. Hitler accomplished Germany so far.

14 November, 2014
During the Hitler wicked story book readers can see that Hitler came from a disrupted family as to a result, of course Hitler kills many Jews.Throughout the book the author shows description of nonhuman racist aspects, in other words horrible ways of seeing life. "Hitler found a target for his restless anger"(Hamilton 20). Therefore readers are told that horror is to come. Hitler would not rest his anger, the Germans didn't know what monster stayed behind their walls.

Hitler didn't want to be like his father or like anybody else. Refusing to get a job Hitler stayed home and wrote his book Mein Kampf. Also occupied by his "splendid" girlfriend Hitler was not a person to want a regular life."Still, Hitler refused to get a regular job. He must a meager living selling his paintings"(Hamilton 20).Accordingly Hitler only spent his early life messing around and not up to much. Hitler had one plan that was to conquer Europe.

An event that changed Germany forever

Hearing about Hitler I was always intrigued by the horrible things he did. Scrolling past the library I found a biography book of him and decided to try it. I never enjoyed reading books because I constantly just got distracted. But for the first time, I enjoyed reading the book and every time I would stop reading I felt the need to read more. The book (biography by Sean Steward Price ) tells the story of Adolf Hitler and how he got into power and initiated World War II, the Holocaust, and the genocide of about six million Jews and millions of other victims. Going into the book I was expecting a boring summary of his crimes. Still, as I kept reading the book, it was structured in a way that as I was reading it I felt like I could imagine everything happening because of how detailed and specific it was.

Sean’s way of being able to describe a lot of things in such a short book but also learn a lot is fantastic. Sean displays the use of writing style, for example, “Hitler had blond hair and blue eyes. Near the bottom of Hitler’s ladder stood Africans, Asians, slavs, and others. As always he assigned the lowest position to Jews.” It provides the reader with good descriptive writing to really help them experience/imagine what is happening.

He also uses authentication to guide the readers along, For example, “ A SOLDIER FROM the Nazi Party’s private army, the SA, holds German communists at gunpoint. Members of the SA were called Brownshirts, and by 1933, they numbered more than three million.” Under this quote, he stamps an image of the event which helps authenticate his writing and get the reader in believing that what happened is true.

Overall, at the beginning of looking at the book, I thought it was going to be bland and would miss some points as the book looked short for such a big thing that happened. But after reading it felt like I was able to really imagine and get ahold of everything that happened at that time and understand everything in such a short reading. On a rating scale of 1 to 5, 1 being bad and 5 being the best I would rate this book a 5, it is the best for those who don't like to read a lot but are also interested in learning what Hitler did.

I like the Wicked History biography series. The books are a decent length for upper elementary. The language gets as close to narration as it can without becoming historical fiction. There are lots of pictures, as well as a timeline at the end and a web of supporting characters at the beginning. The negative is obviously that all of the people in the series are the ones you can't admire. All of them served their own self interests and as a result innocent people died.

All of this pertains to the Hitler book as well. It gives just the right amount of detail for a kid to be knowledgable on the subject. The Holocaust is pure terror for those who lived it and it comes across in the book. You can't read about Hitler and not read about what went on in the concentration camps. For that reason, I would say that judgement should be used to decide when your child is old enough to tackle these dark people of the past.

I knew that World War II was horrible. But I wasn't really know how hard it was to live. I wasn't really interested in this. But, after reading this book, my mind changed. All my interest went to this book. I focused on how Hitler changed from young teen to adult, how he changed with his mind.

I liked this book because in this story, there is real un-fiction story about Hitler's life. I didn't know that Hitler was a poor boy in teen. It's good for learning the history and the true character of Hitler.

Hitler is a worst guy who killed many jewish people. And He made the WorldWar II. He is the Worst man!! —But not the bad guy, there was the inside story for him. And I think it is very important to LEARN!!

Very good entry level biography and history of Adolf Hitler and World War II.
A map at the beginning shows Europe and the Mediterranean, highlighting locations of events in the life of Hitler and World War II. Black and white photographs also give some insight into people and events of the time.
A good reminder of what happens when political leaders don't take apparently minor irritations seriously and think through what might happen. The vindictive end of World War I merely set up the German mindset of getting their own back. Hitler didn't create the thinking that he took advantage of in setting up his German Reich.
Read this and think what events of today might lead to something of someone similar.

We picked this up at one of our buildings that teacher 4th and 5th graders, because I was curious as the appropriateness of it for 10 and 11 year olds.
I really liked this book and thought it gave a lot of great information. I thought the glossary was necessary and would be essential for young kids to understand. Honestly, I think it was too mature for 4th and 5th graders, but teenagers/high school kids that had more understanding of history and learning about about culture this is a great book. I think there are a lot of overlaps with history then and now that could create some really great and thought provoking discussion

Before I read this book, I wasn’t really interested in history and the WW2 stuff. But this book sucked me into the history of Adolf Hitler. But one thing i can’t really forget is that from a homeless boy who lost his mother and father he became the leader of Germany. But he wouldn’t be able to reach this all without a person who was the only man who tried to change something in the boy’s life the teacher. One word, One look and One person can turn your life upside down.

A well done concise history of Hitler. It covers many of the major details while also throwing in some specific lesser known examples that expose him even more as the evil and out of his mind dictator that he was.

I really did enjoy this book a lot and it was an amazing book. I have read one other book from the same series of books and this one is probably I would say better. I had really wanted to read this book and Im so glad I did. I had heard already about all the things that Adolf Hitler had done and learning about his past you can tell his childhood wasn't the best nor his future. These people are not good people but learning about them is interesting. The book was very interesting and I hope to read more of these books in this series for sure. The book did take me 2 weeks to read because it was a bit challenging. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a book/ learn about someone who didn't do good to the world.

Hitler

This book is about Adolf Hitler's dictatorship for Germany. He discriminated against Jews, Slavs, gays, and lots of other people and would beat them in the streets when he rose to power in Germany. When the old ruler was killed, Hitler became the dictator, or fuherr, as people would fall him. Hitler became so powerful, he had the control of all of Germany-- 66 million people at the time. He also started invasions in on Poland, with the Soviet Union on his side. This was the start of World War II. The Soviet Union's leader, Joseph Stalin. Stalin knew that The Soviet Union was in no shape to war against Germany's ruthless military, so he agreed to become allies with Germany. Hitler ended up dying before the war ended. In Hitler's brutal concentration camps, which consisted of all the races and different people he was against, around 11 million people died, and over half of them (6 million) were Jews.

I thought this book really expressed how Hitler seized control of Germany without being biased. Of course, Hitler was a terrible person, and how the book splayed his actions really captured that. But the author wrote this based solely off of research, without an ounce of opinion. I mean, it is a biography, but since Hitler is so bad it would be hard to write a book about him without saying how wicked he is without just stating his actions. Also, I learned a lot more about Hitler from reading this, like how before he became a madman, he was actually a very respected figure in Germany, due to the fact that his speeches could be very convincing. Once, when he was accused of a crime he committed, he gave a thundering speech to the judge of the court and he got a mild sentence, five years in prison. Overall, the ideas of this book were very well thought out.

This book tells a wicked true story about a crazy maniac named Adolf Hitler. This book has details on many events that occurred during this man's ruling in Germany and the conquering of the local countries in Europe. It also tells the story of how he grew up as a child. Hitler grew up with a corrupted hatred towards Jews because he felt that they were ruining the economy, taking over business and taking over Germany. He felt the Jews increased the cities crime rate and felt that they needed to be terminated in Europe. He did many horrible and cruel things to the Jews. This book tells many stories and it shows many pictures that are not known to many people about the Holocaust. If you want to know the detail by detail of what happened during the World War II then this is a book that you would want to read!!

The second book I've read in the Wicked History series, I'm definitely interested in reading each and every one of them both because of it's sharp focus on the biographical content of the person they're profiling, but with select and specific photographs, a timeline, and glossary, it's a fascinating resource that doesn't disappoint in providing context, understanding, and some new learning. The chapters move along swiftly and the arc of the story is engaging.

This was a particularly shocking statement made before his true rise by someone close to the president: "I solemnly prophesy that this accursed man will cast [Germany] into the abyss and bring our nation to inconceivable misery," Ludendorff told the president. "Future generations will damn you into your grave for what you have done."

"Most people could not comprehend that the camp was set up just to kill them."

Hitler was ruthless. He hated the jews for no good reason. He didn't like them because he didn't like his old country which was filled with jews. As a child Hitler had a poor family. When he grew up he was homeless and later he wanted to show his hate for the jews and got arrested. While in jail he wrote an autobiography of himself that made other people hate the jews which helped his popularity. When he got out of jail he become a dictator that had a dark future ahead of him.

I think Hitler shouldn't of hated the jews so much for no good reason. He should have just got on with his life and not take his anger on innocent people.

This series will draw in readers with its dark humor and factual information. It makes good use of graphic images and maps to help tell the story. The information is good, and should be enough for middle schoolers. The author presents the facts, allowing the readers to decide if the person was wicked or not. Also helpful is the index, glossary, list of sources and suggestion for further reading.

It held my attention well and I am looking forward to reading the other titles in this series.

Although it's my first time I am reading about Hitler, this seems to be a very good summary of the chronology of events in his life. The author hasn't dived deep into anything specific and has left it to the reader to choose. I extremely liked the timeline and glossary of terms at the end. A recommended book if you have wanted to read about Hitler or World War 2 and din't know where to start.

What I liked about the book is that there was a lot of illustrations. I also liked that it said what other people said as well. What I didn't really like is that the author didn't really add in a lot of quotes of what hitler said. Overall, I found it short, quick, and easy to read.

Yup another wicked history. This book is about a man named Adolf Hitler and well he was pretty crazy. I had been wanting to read about him for some time now because well you hear things about people but you don't really know exactly want happened until you see or in this case read the facts. Adolf Hitler didn't have a very good childhood which I feel really affected him. This didn't help his future actions very much either. Adolf Hitler made the world turn around and cause many people pain. I can't understand how hard it must have been to live in that time period. But the people who did survive have amazing stories and I had researched them after. The story of Adolf Hitler is an amazing read that I think everyone can enjoy. Open your mind and learn all the interesting facts of Adolf Hitler.
