When rebellious teenager Misty Sullivan falls pregnant to a local wannabe gangster, she soon becomes a prisoner in her own home. Despite the betrayal of her best friend, she eventually recovers her self-belief and plots revenge on her abusive boyfriend with spectacular consequences. This gripping tale sees the impressive debut of Karen Woods in the first of a series of novels based on characters living on a Manchester council estate. Themes of social deprivation, self-empowerment, lust, greed and envy come to the fore in this authentic tale of modern life.
This book was so good, it is one of the best I have ever read in my life. Misty is so real and reminded me so much of myself that I could empathise with her the whole way through. I absolutely loved it. Her journey feels real, and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.
A decent British drama as long as you are prepared to deal with slack editing
I did like the storyline, although parts of it were a bit too cliche for my liking. I rated it down because of the errors. Incorrect words were used at times, and there were many gramatical errors! I would recommend finding a good editor and releasing an updated version of this book. I will read the remainder of the trilergy as I want to find out what hapens, but I sincerely hope I don't have to deal with the constant errors!
This was a gripping story however could do with advisory / trigger warnings at beginning of the narrative as this is very descriptive throughout with dv and more. The story sadly is so close to what many people experience in life in or around themselves making it relatable in some or many ways. This was very well portrayed and certainly well documented that it had you knowing the characters as if they were part of your own life.
Great start for a new author and a gripping tale to takes us into a trilogy. Karen created a vile character in Gordon that had me turning the pages as I longed to see him get what he deserves. Did that happen? Well the only way to find out is to jump into this novel and see for yourself. I’m sure fans on Martina Cole, Jessie Keane, Casey Kelleher and Kerry Barnes won’t be disappointed.
Read this book very quickly. Pretty captivating. Couldn't put it down although very harrowing in parts. Strong story line encapsulating domestic abuse and entrapment alongside relationship and friendship complexities. About to continue with the sequel
Great book kept you wanting to read more I’ve bought all the series so I’m on the second one now read the first in a day really enjoyed it would definitely recommend it your heart goes out to Misty you just want her life to improve
A brilliant well written book. Very tough to read with challenging scenesbut really glad I persivered and finished it. Hopefully I'll be more prepared for book 2.
This book was fabulous I couldn't put it down. Misty was a awesome character I loved her from the very start. All the characters were amazing and so very real. I absolutely detested Francesca end despised Gordon. I've read many English novels but there were some words I have never heard of such as butty, graf and a few others thank goodness for the instant dictionary so I guess I've learnt a few new words lol its a little different to our Aussie slang but amused me. This novel was so good I'm now reading the sequel"Black Tears".❤❤❤
Sad story but so gripping. Once I finished it I was glad to find out that there was a follow on book to it that is equally as good as this one. My only negative was the spelling and grammar but the story more than makes up for it!
