Two irresistible and hilarious love stories (and really cute boys)! In Maine Squeeze , eighteen-year-old Colleen Templeton can't wait for summer. She's going to share a house with her best friends, earn money for college, and spend every free moment with her boyfriend, Ben. It's the perfect plan. At least until she discovers that she's going to be working side by side with Evan, the guy she dated last summer—the best summer of her life . . . until he broke her heart. Will Colleen be able to keep her cool when this summer starts heating up? Courtney Von Dragen Smith didn't plan on being single her senior year. But in Banana Splitsville , thanks to her now-ex-boyfriend Dave, single is exactly what she is. And miserable. That's okay, though, because she has a steer clear of boys for the rest of high school. Oh, and stick to a new vegan diet. But it turns out that ignoring all guys (well, really one guy in particular) is about as hard as keeping away from sundaes when you work at Truth or Dairy. Is Courtney falling in love again? (With more than that dish of scrumptious ice cream?)
This book was raved about on a summer reads post in a Facebook group I’m in. Someone said it was their favorite comfort read ever. It is no longer in print, so I had to search for a used copy.
Oof.
While it wasn’t absolutely terrible, the characters were completely predictable and the story ended abruptly. It was basically like watching an episode of Dawson’s Creek and the power going out before the ending. Not that I care that it was cut short, but it felt like a waste of time.
Spoiler*⬇️
Blair is also a huge troll and I lost all respect for the characters in this story for not running her off the island after the painting incident.
I only read the Main Squeeze part of the book. I read this book in middle/high school and then I gave it 5 stars. Now that I’ve re-read it I’ve changed my mind to 3 stars because the ending kind of sucks and that the plot didn’t really grab my attention.
18 year old Colleen Templeton is about to have the perfect summer, since her parents are out to Europe she's sharing the house with her best friends, and plans to spend every moment with her perfect boyfriend, Ben. Suddenly things don’t turn out well when her ex-boyfriend, Evan who she dated last year shows up, and works side by side with her. Colleen still seems to have juicy feelings for Evan. Will Colleen's relationship with Ben last? Who will she choose Evan or Ben? Things seem to get juicy with every word in the book.
Maine Squeeze by Catherine Clark is the best romance book I have ever read. Colleen Templeton is 18 years old, and one of those ignorant girls who make really bad mistakes in life. Colleen is having major boy trouble, her parents are out to Europe so she's sharing the house with her best friends and plans to spend every moment with her boyfriend, Ben. But her ex-boyfriend, Evan who broke her heart into millions of pieces last summer, came back and works side by side with her, Colleen doesn't know how to tell Ben about Evan's return. Colleen is convinced that she has zero feelings for Evan, but she still really has those juicy feelings for him. At the end Colleen made the worst mistake of her life, she started having affairs with Evan, because of the misunderstanding break-up between her and Ben, this is what made me think Colleen was ignorant. I almost ripped the book into pieces because of the very stupid ending, it totally ruined the whole book. Clark did an awesome job of being descriptive about the characters and the scenes in the book, I could even feel what was happening. The vocabulary gave me goose bumps all over my body, but that was my favorite part of reading the book, I could totally feel the expressions of the characters. Some of the vocabulary was complex, and the book is very suspenseful. All the romance made me blush, this is why Maine Squeeze by Catherine Clark, is the best romance book I have ever read and I guarantee you will love it.
I highly recommend Maine Squeeze to middle school girls who love realistic, teenage, romance books that will give you that blush when you are reading it. This book should not be read by kids, because of some scenes that have inappropriate content
The first story Maine Squeeze was your typical young adult light beach read. The story was predictable and the characters all seemed a little too cookie cutter.
The second story Banana Splitsville while not quite as predictable as the first story was still... just okay. The main character was incredibly annoying.
This book is a reissue of two of Clark's books: MAINE SQUEEZE, which is the book's title for some reason, and BANANA SPLITSVILLE. Both books are easy, light, romantic reads. They're both quite predictable as well, but if you just want some light, mindless reading that will keep you easily entertained they are the right picks (perfect summer reading). Both stories were fast-paced, and wrapped up all plot points completely.
I came into this book with great expectations. I had recently read another book about summer romances/break ups with two books bound in one. So I thought this won't be such a bad book. But jeez. The first story was okay. Not fantastic but okay. I enjoyed it enough to finish it. Because I wanted to see who she'd end up with. But the second story was just plain awful. It was a really bad follow up read compared to the first story. I just couldn't finish it.
I don't think I ever finished the second half of this. I read it in high school and my best friend teased me incessantly for the titles. But he was a dude and it was a Chick Lit book; he wouldn't get it anyway.
However, despite the funny names, this book was boring and fell flat. It took forever to get going.
