What's the best revenge when your best friend ditches you for the popular crowd? Alyson Noël reveals all in her hot new young adult novel, Kiss & Blog.
As freshmen at Ocean High last year, Winter and her best friend Sloane thought they could ditch their nerdy past, launching from invisible to cool. But after another miserable year of standing on the sidelines they make a pact to do whatever it takes not to go unnoticed in their sophomore year, promising each other that whoever makes it into the cool group first will bring the other along.
One Sloane gets a taste of life on the A-list, she slams that door in Winter's face. Suddenly cast out of her former best friend's life, Winter takes revenge the modern way: by announcing all of Sloane's dirty little secrets on an anonymous blog. Then the blog becomes more popular than she ever dreamed and Winter must decide if her retaliation is really worth the consequences—and if the price for popularity is one she's willing to pay. Once again, Alyson Noël navigates the tricky waters of the high school social scene with the heart and humor her readers have come to love.

This book is a political allegory set in a flea dip, with the Lead Flea an allegorical Idi Amin and the Lower Flea the Oppressed Downtrodden Peasants of Nigeria and comparisons to 1984 are not . . .
Kiss & Blog is about the friendship between Sloane and Winter. They were best friends forever and they were tired of being outcasts. So they made a goal together: become popular. However, once the two start becoming popular.. well, Sloane ends up ditching Winter and Winter makes out with a bunch of god damn hotties.
Okay so Winter was kind of annoying. Scratch that, most of the characters were annoying. I honestly have no idea how Winter and Sloane were ever friends. Hot damn, the amount of back stabbing between these two. Sloane basically uses Winter and wasn't a good friend.. but then Winter wasn't an angel either.
The blog idea seemed fun and kind of makes me want to create my own but for books. I really liked Winter's younger sister, Autumn, was probably my favorite. She definitely should've been the main character. Then this book would've gotten a way better rating by me.
Besides that, there are the love interests that were basically meh to me. I liked Rey a little bit more than Easton but not by much. Easton was a terrible character because he was just meh all over. Then there was Rey who was a little bit swoonworthy but I also couldn't say he was my ultimate favorite love interest. He was, however, a better option than Easton.
Overall, it was an okay read. It had a bunch of flaws and I wished Autumn was the main character and not Winter. This book had so many cliches in it that I rolled my eyes countless times.
This book was great! It was one of the best books i've ever read. This book would be best for teenage girls since it involves alot of drama, which teenage girls go through daily. In this book, two best friends are split up over popularity which involes lots of backstabbing, gossip, and girl drama. I could not put this book down. I would deffinetly reccomened it.
As some of you may know, for some absurd reason, I made an Alyson Noel haul. Yes, two books is a haul for me. Now shut up! I'm not a Noel fan, never was really, but something makes me read her novels, even when I want to falcon punch most of the characters in the face.
Winter and Sloane are besties forever. Or so they though. After years of being outcasts, they casted a goal: to be in the popular squad. But Sloane ditches Winter and Winter makes out with hotties.
Plot: Cliche, such a cliche my dear Noel. Two best friends, one ditches another, revenge, bla bla bla, yada yada yada. Well, I did like the blog idea and telling anonymously dirty secrets. If only I had the balls to blackmail people or posting their embarrassing crap all over the internet, I would be a happier person. I think. Maybe.
No! That's a bad idea! On the internet, you can be found out so easily it's not even funny!
Writing: One minute she was talking about her back story, next minute she said something about her crush getting into the cafe. What?
Heroine- Winter: This is going to be a long rant. Belts please. I don't know what Noel though when she created Winter. Wait, I actually do. In one of her interviews, Noel actually said that she first comes up with a story, than with a character. Most of us do, right? But here's the punch line: she feels the story is more important than the characters. Characters=Plot, not CharactersAnyways, here's a brief summery of Winter. Winter is an outcast girl music from the eighties, likes to read and write, and is really shy. Magnifique.
It seems like Winter only listens to Sex Pistols and The Beatles (if I get something wrong here, I'm a noob in music, so don't take to your heart), never opens a book, less writes anything and is making out with total strangers. Sigh. I think that when Winter says she likes to read, leads her to love to write, leads her to write a blog. Huh. Anyhow, she calls herself shy. In what fucking parallel universe are you shy Mary fluffing Sue?! You make out with a guy and almost had sex with when you've known him for, like, two weeks. There's no flicking romance or electricity, it just shows how teenagers nowdays can be... umm... passionate.
If all that description wasn't enough to explain how much I hate, despise the main character, I'll tell you a secret. If she existed, I would come to her place and be like:
Bestie to Enemy- Sloane: Social reputation? Please, that girl can't even mean what she says. Sloane was Winter's BFF and turned into a teenage version of Honey Boo Boo. She also lies, she stubs in the back and flirts with guys only to score. Okay, I don't always hate this kind of characters, but she was so one dimensional. She used Winter and all, but I just... I want to choke her.
Love Interests- Easton & Rey: Before you hate me, here's the truth- I never like Easton. And in the beginning I liked Rey, but by the end he was ruined so badly. Easton was that guy from some fancy art school that you use him to make out. When we first met him, he was bleh. The rest of the book he was bleh. But on the other hand we had Rey. When I first met Rey...
That's right he was that guy. It's been quite a while since I met a fictional male character that I can swoon over, so when we're introduced to Rey, I don't know why not love him. He calls the girl milady and sings songs to her. I just wish it was me and not Winter-frozen-brain. So if choose between Easton and Rey, me and Winter both agree on Rey. (What kind of name is Easton anyway? Sounds like tooth brush brand)
Little Sis- Autumn: Autumn is my most favorite character in this novel. She's an artist, smart and chooses boys by their mind, not looks. She also has really good taste in fashion. She was a bit of a perfection of me.
Popular Squad: Such a cliche I don't even want to start writing about it.
Overall: Kiss & Blog could be a nice read if not all the unnecesary description and rolling in the blog idea only 30% into the book. Also... how the hell people shrug so much in this book and their shoulders don't hurt one bit?!
Disliked: -Majority of the plot -Most of the characters
And now, a little lovely quote from the book: "Memories are the only things we really own, the only things that stay constant." He shrugs. "Everything else becomes dust."
When you now ex best friend leaves you and then is kind of a bully. Do you then start a blog and send there secrets out to the world. I did not really enjoy this book, I felt like she was really mean. She did learn her lesson in the end. It’s just not my kind of book.

I could not put Kiss&Blog down. Seriously! Totally addictive... Winter is a shy, awkward, 15 going on 16 girl who just lost her best friend (and only friend) Sloane. Sloane ditched Winter for the back-stabbing, mean girls of Ocean High. You see, Winter and Sloane had been planning and planning their sophomore year all summer, their break-out year; where they went from nobodies, to A-listers. They changed their hair, body care products, and attitude. But once Sloane was at the top, there was no way she was going back to the bottom. Winter was a true friend to Sloane, but Sloane didn't give it a second thought about hanging with the girls who bashed just about everybody. After being thrown away by her best friend of 8 years, Winter is seeking revenge. So, she starts doing so by creating an anonymous blog. The blog reveals all of Sloane's dirty little secrets. Did you know she made out with her cousin TWICE? Did you know she gave her Jr. High School principal a Teddy bear on valentines day saying "I wuvvv you this much!" Sloane is "Princess Pink" and her "friends" are the "Pastel Posse." Basically, everyone who is in the blog has a secret, and creative code name. And Winter herself is Eleanor Rigby. Winter's love life has several ups and downs. As well as all of her friendships. Sloane ends up getting ditched by the "Pastel Posse." Too bad she couldn't see that Winter was a true friend... Overall, I loved this book!!! The blog posts by Winter were tons of fun to read, and be prepared for some serious drama. This book has it all! An absolute, 110% MUST-READ!!!!
I came along this book by accident, made the choice to randomly go to the library one day and this is what i picked up.
I have this routine, that when i pick up a book, i'll read the first chapter, and if i like it, i'll continue reading. This was definately one of those books!
I love the fact that they based it on a girl who likes a different kind of music, and whose family is based in a different decade. I thought that brought a whole different level to the book.
As materialistic as some of this may seem, i really think it does differ from some other teen drama novels for the simple fact that this book is based on the revenge from a friendship, not over a guy.
Even though, like any teenage novel, boy drama is of course evident, but to me, it doesn't take over the story line as much as some other novels. It's all about holding a grudge and stopping at nothing until you are satisfied with the revenge you have tried to gain. It's brilliant.
I think if your anything like me, and have the constant need to only read teen dramas, but are just looking for that slight difference, this is the book for you.
Update: Finished the book last night. I liked the second half more than the first. I wish, oh how I *really* wish Winter would have gave Sloane a tongue lashing once and for all!

I picked up Kiss & Blog to tie me over until Dark Flame is released. The Immortal series is my introduction to Alyson Noel. I liked them enough to check out her other books. My library only had Kiss & Blog, but I wasn't picky.
Okay, so one of my little pet peeve with some authors is the overuse of one word through-out the entire book (think Meyer and "chargin"). Anyway, some where around the middle of Shadowland I picked up on "gaze" and its may versions. I didn't notice it in the first two books (maybe it wasn't as noticable or maybe I was just in a mood... don't know). In any event, it started to become distracting.
What does my "gazing" ramble have to do with anything? Well, I start on Kiss & Blog and on the very first page:
Pre-reading: I don't really expect this to be very good, but it's been on my bookshelf forever so I figured I should read it.
Post-reading: So I was pretty much right with my original opinion of the book. It wasn't very good to say the least. It was poorly written, mostly unrealistic, and had too many random and pointless subplots & details.
Basically the main character Winter is really annoying and made me want to throw the book at the wall about 70 times while reading it, which is never a good thing.
Bah! This book did absolutely nothing for me. It just rambled about nothing of importance and it was so predictable that... I can't even begin to tell you what I thought. *Sighs* The characters are shallow, the plot is boring... I just can't stand this book. I now this is just a very short review but... this book just annoyed me to no end! Read it and decide for yourselves.
So, I definitely feel too old to admit that this type of gossipy young adult fiction is a definite guilty pleasure of mine, but I'm saying it regardless. I definitely enjoyed KISS AND BLOG and I would recommend it to anyone who secretly stashes away smutty gossip magazines -- because it's just THAT fun!
Backing up a little bit, KISS AND BLOG is about two best friends who have decided that they are absolutely tired of being social nobodies at their high school. Thus, they spend their summer researching fashion tips, cheer-leading moves, and general personality characteristics that lend themselves to easy teenage popularity. After a new wardrobe, new hair colors, and countless hours of emulating moves from higher places on the social ladder, Sloane and Winter know they are ready for the A-list crowd at school...
... Except, things don't quite work out like the girls planned. While Sloane has the hair flipping, eye batting, and girly giggling down to a science, Winter feels awkward and uncomfortable around the popular kids, still finding cheer-leading and teeny-bop fashion to be laughable, at best. Sloane is part of the A-list crowd right away, but Winter just doesn't mesh with the crowd, finding herself to be the laughing stock of the cool kids once again. And now, Sloane is mocking her too, it seems.
Hurt and angry from the blatant betrayal by her former best friend, Winter takes out her aggressions through her new blog, a quirky series of entries by a character, Eleanor Rigsby, that semi-anonymously spill each and every one of Sloane's dirty little secrets, accumulated after years of friendship. Winter doesn't expect that anyone will really see her rantings, but it ends up being a fun way to release her hostilities, even if it ends up being a secret kind of revenge.
Soon, though, the secret gets out, and everyone knows about Eleanor Rigsby and her hilarious reports of Princess Pink and her diva squad. But, is Winter really as anonymous as she thinks? And, is she willing to let her bitterness over a failed friendship overshadow a possibility for a chance at love?
Sure, KISS AND BLOG is a definite guilty pleasure read, but it is definitely fun and compulsively readable -- easily read in a single sitting, even. I was a little worried when things started gearing up for a cliche love triangle, but the situation was quickly diffused. Yay!
And yeah, the characters were catty and bitchy and ridiculously mean, but that was part of the fun. Think "MEAN GIRLS" -- except, throw in a blog, a hippie mother, a semi-celebrity father, and a couple of hipster teenage boys on the side.
It's not War and Peace, but nobody picks up a book like this expecting a classic. So, if you want a fun, quick teenage read, give KISS AND BLOG a chance. Maybe it will be your next guilty pleasure, too!
This book wasn't the worst book I've ever read, but I'm still surprised that I got through about half of it before tossing it aside. I can't remember where I heard about the author; her most recent book sounded interesting, but the library didn't have that one, so I picked this up instead. It was quite a let down.
The plot had a lot of promise - two girls, determined to get to the top of the high school social chain, decide to do whatever it takes to get there, but once Sloane gets in, she leaves Winter (the main character) behind, who then channels her anger into starting an anonymous blog and spilling Sloane's secrets on it. Cyber-bullying - very timely. Unfortunately, the execution of this idea wasn't as good as it should have been. It takes quite a while for the actual blogging to start, and then other people at school find out about the blog completely randomly, saying something like, "Oh I just found this cool new blog yesterday!" Since WInter doesn't use any identifying details on her blog, that seems pretty farfetched... plus, the blog entries included in the book aren't very interesting anyway; they include nothing any other emo teen would be posting. So, disappointing. Furthermore, their friendship seemed, from the beginning, like it was based on history together rather than actual continuing friendship. Winter is a little irritating, and they all talk like a stereotypical girl from Laguna Beach would, despite the fact that Winter says living there is nothing like life on the show Laguna Beach.
Anyway, I gave up with this one. There are so many good teen books out there, but unfortunately this isn't one of them. Even if you're looking for total escapist fare, you could do better.
I really didn't enjoy reading this book but hey it's kinda intriguing and well i'm a teenager so i can relate to the story. First time to read a Alyson noel book, I'm not saying I don't like it but it lacks something. I think the ending is cliffhanger to me, because Winter as the lead of the story just stop writing about her ex-friend which is Sloane who was Winter's blogging about all of her secrets. Well I don't blame Winter because Sloane is a bitch coz she ditched Winter just to be popular. Like she didn't mean anything to her, they're like sisters and everything then just like that she just let her go because of popularity. I hate the fact that Sloane didn't think about Winter, like if she's okay by herself but no she didn't think of her because she's enjoying her new clan. I hate to break it but Sloane is so not a good friend though Winter did such a bad thing by blogging her secrets but she always want to make it up to her, and she feels sorry for what she has done coz she knows she is wrong. I will not talk about how her lovelife runs here but the thing is it's cute with Winter and Rey i love them :)
So that's it, well I guess I just say that don't let people get in your way and don't waste your friendship just because you want to be one of the popular girls at school, who even care if you're not one of the popular girls when your in highschool as long as you can make a name for yourself when you grow up you'll be known! :)
This book is for those who loves gossips, teenage drama and who are into a relation with friends that might have the exact drama between Winter and Sloane.
This is definitely one of Alyson Noel's best works. I have read more then one or two of her books and she has never disappointed yet. She is definitely not only one of my favorite authors but I love reading her books again and again. Though she unlike some other authors, give such subtle hints to outcomes when they happen you cannot help but be overcome with joy at what happens to these lovable characters. When I first saw this book I thought it would be much different from what it actually was. I believed that Winter would either become a sell-out or a popular kid just like Sloane, instead she stayed true to who she was and that was one thing that in real life does actually sometimes happen, her books are not like most others when they always end happy, everyone is friends again, and everything ends in the perfect way, instead she tells it like it is, the way that things can happen in life and most of the time they do happen. She is a breath a fresh air to the world of superficial bimbo's, she writes about how they aren't perfect and that behind their fake smiles the really are the horrid people everyone else sees them to be.
The truth is, no matter how much I tried I couldn't make myself like the character that was Winter Simmons. I hated how she was frivolous, flippant, a giant ungrateful brat. She was too stupid and caught up in herself to see what was right in front of her all the time. She was so busy reveling in the drama of her non-existent social life that she gave away the only thing that could've made her happy and then she didn't even have the guts to go back for it. She had no spine, no personality, was unnecessarily snarky and mean to her little sister for no reason at all. As far as I'm concerned she was just as bad, vindictive and bitchy as Sloane--she just didn't get to that point in the social ladder, or i'm pretty sure she would've been a Sloane clone. The only thing going on here was that there wasn't an insta love scene—which, I am very, very grateful for.
The only reason I read this was because I once read a fanfiction that was inspired by this novel, so I may have been misguided a little. But that fanfic was so awesome that I had to read where it was originated.
So if you're looking for a quirky, original, ass-kicking heroin, this would so disappoint you.
So I really like Noel for the Immortal series that I wanted to check out her other books. Went to the library, only had Kiss & Blog...read a chapter online decided "what the heck!" Well first off let me say it was an okay book! Easy reading in less than a day. But the thing that annoyed me the most was that I kept feeling as if I was ready one of the Immortals book where Ever is being an obsessive, paranoid, stalker! But instead of Roman, we have Sloane, the ExBFF. Typical book about the loser who becomes cool, and the forgotten friend. Though I probably won't ever read this book again, don't let me stop you! Read it! It had some good points and interesting people(no not Winter! She annoyed me!)
I'm trying to re-read Alyson Noel's Immortals series, so I figured I might pick up one of here standalone contemporary novels beforehand. I was dismally disappointed.
Winter, the main character, is one of the whiniest, most obnoxious, positively unlikeable characters ever. She yells at perfectly nice people, tells secrets, is a cheater, and basically is the type of girl I would not touch with a 10-foot pole at my school. I would never ever want to know a girl like Winter.
The best part of this book is the blog itself, because even though it was mean hearted in nature, I admit it was still fun to read.
I really don't have anything else good to say, so I'm going to stop here.
First I thought this book had already given away the plot in the title and the synopsis. But I`m glad I was wrong when I thought this book would end with a suicide or a sad story. It was different .
I was really surprised when I read a blog update. The secrets are so funny, and jaw dropping and unbelieveably true! I can't imagine how Alyson Noel came up with those secrets.
I loved Rey! Totally a Rey-girl right now. (Sorry Zach and Hale)
It's so true. I thought I was reading somebody's true story, you know. I personally loved the book. And this time the first two chapters weren't as boring to me as all the other Alyson Noel books I`ve read.
The book was interesting in itself, though the whole "popularity" storyline has gotten old for me. The sudden failing of a friendship is realistic, which didn't make the storyline annoy me as much. I think the characters could've been expanded somewhat. I really couldn't root for the main couple as well as I usually do because I didn't know that much about him. I did, however, root for the protagonist and feel bad for her. Though really, she often only says "ummmm" or shrugs. It was an enjoyable read but I don't think I'll be reading it again.
it's about a girl who's not girlie, but not a tom boy either, like me. she has rock star style, but is so insercure and her name is winter. I feel a lot of connections to Winter. I feel a lot of connections to Winter bcause she is a normal girl who acts like me. I love that I never was able to put Kiss and blog down. I recommend this book to Girls who love a fiction story that they can relate to.
The plotline was interesting, and the characters were well-developed. It's just the main character was so hopelessly stupid. Twice I slammed my bookmark into the book and threw it on the couch. She was so frustrating at times! >.<
I wouldn't really recommend this to anyone. Unless you like frustrating main characters, that is... Lol.
The first half is full of cliches. Two friends make a plan to get popular, one succeeds and forgets the other, the other plans for revenge. The story was old, but the second half added some interesting part that made me finish it. It wasn't horrible, but only read it if you're in the mood for generic teen fiction.
This book gave me a lot of inspiration for starting my own blog, which is turning out to be pretty great. But honestly? The book sucked. The only reason why it even got an extra star is because it inspired me. A real disappointment.
very boring. it follows the life of a girl, alomost too much. Her life is boring. Lets put it this way, if it was a movie, almost the whole book would be edited out because it would be boring.
Let's just say i didn't even finish the book. right from the start Winter annoyed me sooooo much. i wanted to crack her head open or something. gahhh!.

Kiss & Blog by Alyson Noel explores the world of high school drama and popularity with the two main characters Winter and her (ex) best friend Sloane. These freshman girls have been through it all together, and they hope to ditch their past and become the girls they've always wanted to be in their sophomore school year. The two best friends had created a pact to try and go completely unnoticed in the upcoming school year. The girls had promised each other that if one had made it into the popular crowd, they had to bring the other along. Despite this, Sloane had begun to prioritize her new friends over the girl who had always stuck by her side. Winter couldn't help but to feel replaced, and even more like an outcast. This pushes Winter to get payback on her old buddy, and she has taken revenge by creating a website that unleashed all of Sloane's biggest secrets. After the website began to gain popularity, Winter had to learn the hard way that maybe revenge wasn't the best option.
Personally, I love quick teen reads that are interesting and engaging. This book hit all my marks seeing as it was comical, surprising, and enjoyable. It was the perfect story to dive into on my plane ride to and from Florida! I enjoyed not only the style of writing that Noel brought to life, but also how she established the characters as well. As writers, some find it tricky to make up and design characters that are actually interesting and lively; although I do think Noel does a great job of this. The only thing I would note is there is some swearing and hurtful language, therefore I would recommend this book for teenagers 13+.
In Kiss & Blog by Alyson Noel, Winter and her soon to be ex-best friend Sloan have an entire summer full of teaching themselves, preparing, and studying on how to make it to Table A, also known as the cool, popular kids. When Sloane starts to make it to the top with the coolest girls in school, she breaks their pact that whoever makes it to the top will take the other girl with them. Leaving Winter in the dust, Winter branches out, makes friends with some rock band guys, and starts a blog… letting out all of Sloane’s secrets. It’s an anonymous blog using fake names, until Sloane finds out. The author uses author's craft in Winter’s blog when she chooses code names for the characters. For example, Sloane is called “Princess Pink” (Noel 98), showing her character as a queen and leader, by portraying her as a princess. People admire her and want to be just like her. By comparing her to pink, the author is describing how girly she is, with her long, blonde hair, full face of makeup, and wardrobe of designer shoes, clothes, and handbags. The symbolism in the characters names let the reader get an idea of who the characters really are. Personally, I really enjoyed this book, and it kept me intrigued and interested from start to finish. It was full of high school drama, between popularity, friends, and boys. There were many funny parts, and gave the reader a funny view of high school life for a group of girls in California. I definitely recommend this book, and I think my friends should read it, especially if they like drama.
Kiss & Blog by Alyson Noël was a a story that hooked me from the beginning, it explores how Winter and Sloane who are two best friends are tired of not being on the A list (the popular girls) so they made a plan to try and be cool. Hang out with the cool kids, sit at the A table, go to all the parties, etc. The only rule was if one got in and the other didn't the one who did had to hold the doors open for the other so that they could both be included. But when Sloane gets accepted but Winter gets rejected Sloane decides to slam the doors in Winters face and Winter finds herself all alone in her sophomore year. Instead of sitting around and letting Sloane get everything she wanted Winter decides to make a blog spilling all of Sloane's dirty secrets, but of course with anonymity and without actually saying Sloane's name, but instead referring to her as PP (Princess Pink). Before Winter knows it her blog is blowing up, everyone in Ocean High is trying to figure out who the writer of the blog is and who they are referring to with the Princess Pink name. While Sloane excludes Winter, she finds true friendship in others who she didn't think she would ever talk to and she even finds love. The novel was gripping and it always left me wanting to keep reading, it's perfect for teens looking to read something with drama and about school life. The books message teaches us about how not everyones intentions are always clear from the start, so we have to be careful who we trust, since Winter thought she could trust Sloane but ended up getting stabbed in the back.
